Re: The Braithvale
[Per page 3 of this thread.]
Quote: [After dinner Atan will wash himself and all his clothes in the stream. His clothes are probably stained on the cuffs but since I wasn't hit they should be still servicable. He will also inspect his armor and all his gear before retiring for the night.]
Fastidously clean Atan arranges his gear and prepares for the days travel. He thanks the Elven archers for their assitance, grabs his bow and pack, and is ready to travel.
[Sadly, Atan fell in the mud just after bathing, then stubbed his toe on a rock, and was splattered with bird feces. - GM]

Re: The Braithvale
Moving away from the Grove, the unusually thick mist gradually recedes from the narrow trail. Ulwe navigates the rolling, forested hills of the Braithvale with ease, though he follows a nearly undetectable deer path. Atan ranges slightly ahead and to the flank of the group, shadowing Ulwe's movements and keeping an eye out for trouble.
There is little on the trail to catch anyone's interest. An old campfire, an animal skull, signs of hunters ranging into the forest for food... nothing out of the ordinary. The day is sunny and bright with a cool wind blowing down from the sea, rustling the autumn leaves that are just beginning to turn.
After an hour or two, Ulwe changes their course from due south to southeast, and Atan soon recognizes the trail.

Re: The Braithvale
Sangraal thanks Ulwe for rations sowing them away in a pouch easily accesable for the trip back to Ravengate. With a simple nod in regard to Draxims question Sangraal produces a small roll of leather.
"I have not forgotten that accursed item." he says wrapping it up in the leather and tieing it securely with cord.
"Lady Lyssa, I will take this away from the vale as you have requested and will destroy it before days end."
[OOC: Waited to see if anybody disagreed or wanted to look at the scroll. Scott, Sangraal will destroy the bone scroll when they reach the edge of the Braithvale. He will of course bash it to pieces with his flail and scatter the fragments to the four winds.]

It's not the journey, it's the destination
The group travels swiftly through the forest, guided by Ulwe's experience and Atan's recollection of the trail Kildeer had shown him. At mid-day they stop briefly to refill their waterskins at a cool stream and eat the modest meal provided them by Ulwe and the Grovewardens.

"Maybe we should have waited for the other Ghurugil? They waited for us after all."
[Kildeer and Harek were headed back to Raven's Gate, not the Grove. Draxim isn't even sure that the Ghurugil know where the Grove is. Also, since they aren't pressed for time, they'll be taking the long way around via Pulyoke. -GM]

Re: It's not the journey, it's the destination
By mid-afternoon, with the sun still hovering above the western mountains, the group reaches the edge of the river with the smokey fortress of Raven's Gate looming ahead of them. One of the local ferry boats lingering in the waterway spots the group and begins to make its way over to take them across. Naredru wisely cancels Lyssa's spell, letting Ruig's litter drift gently to the ground.
The dockyard across the river is bustling with activity as a line of high bowed boats ride the gentle currents from upstream, rounding the western walls of the town. Each boat is crammed full of men, their battle-worn armor covered by the distinctive crimson surcoats of the Red Citadel. As the group makes their way across the river [5 copper each] the distant transports are unloaded. Atan's keen eye counts about twenty men per boat and six boats coming down river from Pulyoke.
The small army of Citadelmen is still lingering around the docks, some spilling into the one riverside tavern, when the group completes the journey and is on dry land again.
[Who's carrying Ruig?]

Re: The Braithvale
"Ferryman, why so many troops coming back to Ravensgate from Pulyoke? We have been traveling and not heard of any trouble."
Once on dry land Atan heads to the back of the litter and awaits Draxims help.
[I'll carry him and I assume Draxim will as well (can't get him away from the corpse you know). Sangraal or Ruglan (they got city skills)be ready with a good excuse for the townguard. They will surely ask why we are hauling around a body.]

Re: The Braithvale
The ferryman shrugs, "dunno. First I seen 'uvem. Battle up at Pulyoke I heard, days ago."
[Atan recalls that before they left for Old Kurlew, the Ghurugil told him that Hothreidal and his men had fought a battle near Pulyoke while searching for an old Imperial monestary.]
Moving through the throng of red-clad soldiers, the procession is greeted by many suspicious stares and cold, dismissive glances. The Citadelmen have clearly been in a battle as their surcoats are stained with the deeper crimson of blood. Without the livery of the Red Citadel, these men would be indistinguishable from the teeming mass of adventurers, treasure-seekers and soldiers that clog the streets of the town. Hands instinctively drift to weapons as the group moves through the crowd, but something unexpected happens.
Upon seeing the white shrouded form of Ruig, and the fine warhammer set on the litter beside him, being carried through their midst, dozens of blood-stained soldiers silently step aside. The motley band, obviously having fought a battle themselves, are given space to transport their dead, the crowd closing up behind them.
Moving beyond the cluster of dockside buildings, the procession reaches the road. As they make their way to the yawning entrance to the Citadel itself, the massive Lanternkeep rising into the sky beside it, a commotion not far to the south catches their attention. A large crowd of townsfolk has gathered, and are seated on the hillside that descends down from the eastern wall of Raven's Gate. There appears to be some kind of ceremony being performed on the flat ground at the base of the hill. At one point a section of the audience cheers wildly then goes silent. Some townsfolk drift away from the spectacle while others arrive from the main gate.

Procession
Sangraal produces and dons the white plaid of his order. Then removes he from under his armor his holy symbol so it lays in plain view. He falls to the back of the procession to the Lodge of the Ghurugil. The throng of people interest him especially when the cheering erupts and subsides but he keeps to the group. Delivering Ruig to his rest is the paramount concern now, everything else can wait.

[Who has the gold? If no one took it, Madragar will.]
Madragar is mildly curious as to the ceremony, and will move closer to see what is occurring.

Re: Procession
[Draxim should have it. I gave it to him to hold onto so he could look at it and do that appraising stuff.]
Atan remains silent and grim as he carries Ruig back to the Gurghil.
[That's Ghurugil, pronounced "Grr-ooo-gill" -GM]
