Re: Lyssa's Tale
[Yes, they do.]
Lyssa shrugs. "He is a Yorul broo from the west, out on the Olmani plains. It is unlikely he will tell us anything, so tomorrow I will have him killed."

Re: Lyssa's Tale
"With your permission!" Draxim bursts in suddenly his voice like a rumbling ox cart shattering the mood caused by the soft lilting melodies of Lyssa's elven speech, "I'd be happy to take care of that jackal for you. He tried to poison us!" Draxim's trembling hand unconciously tests the razor sharp edge of the axe at his belt.
Draxim also reflects on the wisdom of heeding warnings from one's deity regardless of the percieved provenance.

Re: Lyssa's Tale
Looking around, Draxim adds " and uh while I have everyone's attention, I should tell you that I plan to accompany Ruig back to the Ghurugil. After we ..." he casts an eye toward the shrouded form of Meneloss, "... after." he stops knowing that he is unable to continue without losing his composure. The emotion bulges like an inflated bladder. To continue would be like sticking in a knife.

emotion bulges like an inflated bladder
[Nice simile Kenner. That is an image I can't seem to get rid of.]
At Draxim's request for executioner, Atan gives a knowing wink to the dwarf leaving no doubt, I'll hold him down. "What makes the Broo of the Olmanii plains eyes glow as his does? He was apparently able to see quite well in near total darkness. We also have some things we recovered from the Broo that you maybe you could look at? I left it in my pack back at the other tent. I can run and go get it if you'l excuse me?" Atan starts to get up, his eyes are locked on Lyssa, trying to see if she is interested.

Re: emotion bulges like an inflated bladder
Lyssa waves him back down.
"There will be time for that tomorrow, Finith Ring. There will be time for many things. Rest now, replenish yourself."
She takes her own advice and carves off a bit of cheese and eats it in tiny little bites.
"As for the broo and this vision you speak of, it is likely a gift of his master, or perhaps the result of some sacrifice made to its dark god. Chaos is a mysterious thing, and its power encompasses and exceeds all that we mortals can attain. I long ago accepted the reality of our plight. Chaos will always be stronger, but with courage and faith the children of Yelm can survive and, with luck, prevail."

A toast
Atan raises his glass as he stands, repeating Lyssa's words, "With courage and faith!" As others lift their drink in toast, he looks at his companions and is amazed that more did not perish. Only through cooperation and trust did we prevail, to a one none faultered or fled, but moved ever forward, to their own detriment and, for some, demise. But that steadfast and dogged determination made our advance ultimately irresistable. Fear and death under that mountain were defeated by courage and faith.
After his toast though he remains standing and silent. His eyes cast downward to his drink held in both hands. Quietly he begins to speak, "For Ruig, Meneloss and Yimris. Urox will burst with pride as Humakt takes our battle-fallen to Yelm. He will say, these three descended into the darkness of the earth to fight Chaos as the lightbringers. And Yelm, who loves all his children, will hold them tight. They will bask in the kingdom, and the glory of the coming of the light." He raises his glass in tribute, and just before it reaches his lips, those closest hear a whispered, " ....and bring death to the shadow."

Edrigan
Madragar has listened raptly to Lyssa's tale and while the others talked, he sat quietly in thought.
Shifting gingerly in his chair, Madragar speaks. "Lady, it occurs to me that in our shock and relief we have not thanked you for your aid, which surely saved all our lives. Know that you have our profound gratitude. We shall not forget the debt we owe to you."
That said, the apprentice mage says "I must ask, have you heard aught of the fate of my master, or know where he may be?"

Re: Edrigan
"Madragar, consider it a debt repaid. If you had not gone to the mountain when you did, and struck down Gulkhu and his band, the Pit would be open and we would all be struggling for our very lives. It is as even a bargain as one can expect in these troubled times."
"As for Edrigan, it remains a mystery. He simply disappeared. The Tower of Mist is all that remains of his work and it has yet to reveal its secrets. That is why I believe the Gorgon searches for you, young Madragar. He wants to rake your mind for any clue on how to reach the hidden places within the Tower."
"For now, however, he will surely be preoccupied. We have delt the Shadow a terrible blow. The Jangui have been devasated, and their champion is dead thanks to you. The Beast will have to summon new allies and raise new minions before he can hope to assault Old Kurlew again. We must be vigilant, but I believe we have some time."

Re: Edrigan
"Time." Draxim mutters. "why did I always think we would have time." He downs another mug of wine. " Time to play our drinking games." He raises his mug in silent salute. "Time to learn the sword from the hand of an elf." He swings his mug to the side in mock parry spilling a little. "Time to worship at leisure." He drinks the liquid spared by his defensive maneuver. "Time" he mutters. "HA!" he shouts. He keeps trying to drink though the mug is empty. He looks at the mug with disgust, as if it has betrayed him, then sets off to seek more of the numbing beverage, with a belated "beggin' yer pardon" aimed in the general direction of Lyssa.

Re: Edrigan
Sangraal eyes Draxim worriedly. Its tough to see anyone mourn the loss of a friend and Sangraal decides to speak with Draxim when he gets a chance.
"Many who serve as the vanguard in this battle will fall, more Meneloss's, more Ruig's. The weight of such ill burden is the scar we all must bear" he contemplates quietly.
Watching those around him, Sangraal begrudgingly concludes that he must accept his destiny and the destiny of those at this table.
"May Yelm help us all." he offers, raising his mug to the dwarf Draxim, preoccupied as he may be with acquiring another drink.

Time
"With the Nral Valley exposed Chaos can move in force through the south and west. With time we can move to oppose but do we have the troops? This respite will seem all too short when Chaos reveals its designs. We must do something, but I am at a loss as to what." Atan pauses for a momment in thought, a sip of his drink to wet his mind.
"Why did the Broo take Koreaus? What use could they have for a giant's dead body?"

Re: Time
"Why indeed?" Lyssa ponders. "Or more importantly, why did the Shadow want Koraeus' body enough to escort it south rather than opening the Pit of Slaeg Gnara when it had the chance? I honestly don't know."

Re: Time
"Is there any chance that it was not his body that was wanted, but the giant himself?" asks Madragar. "We saw no direct evidence of his death. No blood, for instance. Could he have been taken alive?"

Re: Time
Lyssa turns to Madragar, a curious look on her face. It appears that the elf sorceress may not have considered the possibility, but in a moment the curiosity is replaced by a soft smile.
"It would be an enchantment of epic proportions to turn Koraeus. Possible, I suppose. A more likely explanation may be that the Shadow has no more use for the Gorgon and seeks a new host. Yet Koraeus was a staunch enemy of Chaos. It would require some kind of dark miracle for even his lifeless form to admit the corrupting influence of such a beast."

Re: Time
"I know of the place where the Jangui originated," Lyssa continues. "And they were travelling the high passes and shadow filled valleys that lead to it. Far to the south, beyond the Turgut mountains, are vast grasslands not unlike those of the Olmani. The broo have scoured the land there, turning the plains into a wasteland. The Shadows are strong in that place, and are worshiped as gods. It is a treacherous journey, for the Wild Lands are rife with monstrosities that feed on any living thing that violates their territory. There are broo as well, and tribes of savage humans only slightly better than animals."

Piece of the puzzle
"Though I do not know the importance of this, I feel I should mention the discovery of the temple under the ruin of an Imperial tower. The broo led by Elkhead went in there looking to free or recover something. We found writing on the walls that we could not deciphere, could it be a clue to what was happening?"

Lyssa smiles. "Yes, Sangraal, I know the watchtower of which you speak. But let us leave that subject until the morning, when I may have more to tell."

Re: Piece of the urinary tract.
Draxim gets a drink and takes another to his departed freind Meneloss, placing it on his shrouded corpse. Sitting next to him he says, "Our last drink together snake-handler. I'm buying." The tears come, and soon he is wracked by sobs. The bladder has burst.

"So how long do you think before the Jengui can muster enough force to push out of the wild completely?"
