Re: Potters Row
With his good hand resting on his sword hilt, "I do not Kildeer, but the portents of this night leave me no doubt that Chaos walks in that place. The Coffins Nail."

Drawing his sword slowly from its scabbard he stares at the bar front. "How strong is the taint you smell?"

Re: Potters Row
"It is -" Kildeer begins, but suddenly stops.

Three figures move silently out of the dark alley that runs along the left-hand (north) side of the tavern. They are human, two men and a woman, and at first glance look to be no more than common townsfolk in simple wool garments. They are unarmed and unarmored, and stare at the gathered Ghurugil with a degree of calm that seems more than a little unnatural. The trio glide toward the door of the Coffin Nail and form a line less than twenty feet from the mass of steel-clad dwarves.

For a moment the air is thick with tension as the Ghurugil stare back at the strange humans. Then the first of the dwarves begins to mumble something under his finely crafted helm, then another, then another. A chorus of whispered curses and private prayers roll through the gathered host. Suddenly blades sing out of their sheaths and axes are brought to bear.

Re: Potters Row
One of the Ghurugil lets out a warning shout. It is Tolm, who is guarding the left (north) flank. Two more of the strange humans, their expressions blank - their eyes wide and staring, have emerged from the shadows in that direction. Spinning around, Atan can see three more emerge from the boarding house to the west, and two others shuffle slowly up the street from the south.

The Ghurugil immediately form a defensive ring with Kildeer and Atan in the center. Atan notices that he can see his breath, though the air is still warm.

Re: Potters Row
Battle is imminent, and the Ghurugil know it. These strange humans slowly approach, and seem fearless of the array of sharp steel and superb armor before them. The stench of Chaos so thick in the air that Atan can feel it on his skin.

Suddenly an intensely loud CRACK! sound emerges from the tavern, followed swiftly by a riot of mercenaries, sailors and assundry townsfolk bursting through the exit, fleeing the building. Soon they come rushing from down the alley, some apparently having found an alternate exit. A blast of light shines through the open doorway and Atan can swear he hears Sangraal's voice booming some holy mumbo jumbo within.

Re: Potters Row
"What are these things of Chaos Kildeer? I have never seen creatures as such!"

As the mob explodes onto the street, Atan points with his sword towards the bar, "There! I hear Sangraal and that of battle."

"Move as a unit towards the Nail! We can place our back agianst the bar and pull our people out!"

[Did the mob sweep into the courtyard and are there enough people to confuse these Chaoslings standing agianst us?]

Re: Potters Row
[The mob is pouring into the street, but three of the creatures still stand between the Ghurugil and the tavern. Some of the townsfolk push and shove into the strange humans, and Atan notices that even the lithe woman doesn't move an inch even when one burly sailor ploughs right into her.]

Kildeer hisses, "they are the Draud... evil spirits possessing the bodies of the living."

Kildeer's head spins around to look at Atan as a strange sensation fills the air. The hair on Atan's arms stand up, then his neck, then head. A faint whiff of ozone, like that which comes before an autumn storm, is all the warning granted before an ear-splitting...

KABOOM!

A bolt of lightning streaks down from the roof of the tavern, engulfing the front rank of the Ghurugil formation in its brilliance. Dwarves curse and scream, some hitting the ground, others tearing at their armor now glowing white with the heat of the blast. Some of the scrambling townsfolk emerging from the tavern were caught in the bolt as well and are thrown across the street in a wave of body parts and searing flesh. The flight of the mob turns into a mad rout.

Re: Potters Row
Flinching uncounciously at the strike of lightning, his sword arm flung up defensively, "Humakts oath!" Looking at the carnage around him wrought by the bolt, "The undead walk Ravensgate!"

Lowering his bad hand onto Kildeer's shoulder he barks out to the Ghurugil, "Let us move forward quickly out of the streets, it is death to stay here!"

Cupping his bad hand to his mouth he tries to yell over the din of the fleeing mob, "SANGRAL! RUGLAN! WE ARE COMING TO YOU!".

Re: Potters Row
Kildeer nods his head vigorously and shouts "Vhraalam, we can't stay here!"

The barrel-chested dwarf, his hair smoking from beneath his helmet after being caught in the sorcerous blast, replies "yes brother, we go."

Atan is shocked to see that none of the four Ghurugil that were struck by the lightning were killed. In fact only Vagn was injured enough to fall to the ground, but even he rises to his feet and grips his axe in renewed determination. The Ghurugil are tough folk.

The ring of strange humans begins to close with scattered townsfolk screaming and running this way and that. In unison the Ghurugil begin to chant, the deep tones of their native tongue resonating through their closed helms.

"Kal hala hruum. Kal hal hruum Ghrialaharam! Kal hala hruum."

Atan cannot understand the words, but can't help feel the inherant power that the dwarves are summoning, the fury of the Storm Bull made manifest. Vhraalam sets off, striding purposefully toward the three creatures defending the tavern. The Ghurugil follow, increasing their pace until the whole armored knot is surging forward at a run. The air itself bends and shimmers at the front of the formation like a wave of pure force breaking in front of a speeding ship. The three creatures brace themselves, baring their rotting teeth, and hissing in defiance.

"Kal garhaagal!" the Ghurugil bellow, and slam into the three strange humans, knocking them flat like matchsticks before the wind. The last few sailors left fleeing the tavern hurl themselves aside before being trampled by the dwarven juggernaught, and the Ghurugil smash into the front of the tavern, taking the door and part of the wall with them.
