The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Kaleb needs little convincing. As one of the Brother of the Dawn, Sangraal seems naturally to command some degree of trust with the woodsman, who was the companion of another Dawnbrother until just yesterday.

Kaleb moves to a table near the fire, drawing a wooden scroll case from beneath his tunic. It is a travel-worn but durable case reinforced by copper bands. Carefully, the woodsman pulls two wide pieces of parchment from the case and lays them out on the table.

"There was more," Kaleb explains as the group converges on the table, their curiosity piqued. Vagn, the bookish Ghurugil with a penchant for matters arcane, is particularly attracted to the tiny script and odd symbols that cover the two scrolls, though is careful not to touch it with his soot stained fingers.

"Irian had written on some smaller bits of paper as recently as a week ago, but they were with him when he came into the town. When he returned to camp they were gone."

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
"Kruanru... has anyone here heard of that name before?"

Ulwe asks primarily the Ghurugil assembled around the papers of Irian Aros.

"Also those sigils, do they resemble the writing you found in the Tower to the North by the Sea?"

This he asks to Madragar and Sangraal who were most familiar with the tower.

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Sangraal recalls that the inscriptions under the tower near Grugni's house were written in Hvud-thrastine, a language used generations ago by Chaos worshiping Moagarans. The characters on Irian's scrolls are nothing like that language, and Irian certainly would have recognized Hvud-thrastine if he had seen it.

"Remember in that ..erm ... lively inscription we saw on that door? Chalana Arroy was placed across from Humakt. One is life the other death. Perhaps we could ask the good lady Hegi if these runes mean anything to her? She serves Chalana Arroy. Besides, this reminds me of some black wolves that need hunting back that way.

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
"We have much information to decifer." Sangraal seems lost in thought. " Thank you Kelab for presenting us with this information. Has Irian been prepared for burial?"

[OOC: Wow, there is a ton of stuff to talk about.

Here are my ideas

1. What Atan saw was a gate opening and that women/demon came through it. Where she stood pulvirised the stone. The swordEldars were attacked by something that smashed stone. Maybe thats a lead.

2. Irian had some other writings when he left camp but not when he returned. He stayed in the guest chambers of th lodge maybe he secreted them away there.

3. The silver pipe that Atan was given - can it come apart? Maybe she hid something inside it?

4. Also the swordEldars woship Humakt - the god of the dead. And now all these undead are running around. I think if anybody hates undead it would be Humakt - since it steals souls from him.

5. Which Ghurugil knew about the "food" barrels - maybe he could give some more information which might help.

6. Anything else?

Just some ideas.

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
[It's Kaleb and Swordelders...]

[Humakt does indeed hate undead, but it has nothing to do with souls. Death is itself the fulfillment of an oath made by all living things to Humakt when they are born. Necromancy - specifically raising the dead, or the undead - is equivalent to breaking that most sacred oath.]

[Also, Whitney might be quick to conclude that a sky full of flying sharks represents some sort of magical gate or portal, but Sangraal certainly would not. Although gates are a tried and true Fantasy concept, even the wisest scholars and wizards in Moagara know little about them, if they exist at all.]

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Reaching into his pocket Atan removes the trinket that the female dwarf had given him. Studying it, he holds it to the light, "Havn't really gotten a chance to look at this"

[He will show it to anyone who shows interest.]

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Atan passes around the pipe. It is small trinket made of silver, not much bigger than the elf's thumb. The pipe-stem is carved in the shape of a snake's tail. At the opposite end the snake's head grows incredibly large in relation to its body, forming the bowl. However, neither end has a hole in it, so the device is completely non-functional.

It is a strange item, particularly since the only Moagarans that smoke tabac live in Thasvara and Isselwaith, it being a habit imported from the Empire. A silver pipe in the shape of a snake... odd, but its symbolism is quickly explained by Madragar.

"Snakepipe," he says. "One of the five students of the great wizard Wulfwaru - himself the first sorcerer of the Moagaran people." Madragar speaks with confidence, the line of his sorcerous heritage one of the many things drilled into his young mind as an apprentice.

"A potent wizard, to be certain, but would be over eighty years of age if he still lives. Perhaps the dwarf woman was an apprentice of Snakepipe herself, or an associate of one. Or perhaps it is yet another attempt at obfuscation."

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Atan begins kicking out questions to Madragar as he is obviously confused by the latest turn of events, "I don't understand. So what does this do....is this some sort of calling card? I can't imagine why she would give it to me. A parting gift? And who is this Wulfwaru? Does anything in his history point to being interested in you or Ravensgate?

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Vagn's hand slaps his forehead with a loud whack!

"Snakepipe... of course. Obvious, really."

Madragar, still regarding the pipe, answers Atan.

"Wizardry is not native to this land. It was brought to these shores with the Lunars eighty years ago. Wulfwaru was a clever chieftain, of the Nral valley people I believe... the Hladra. There is some dispute as to how he was first taught the basics of sorcery, but what is not questioned is that he excelled at its study and evocation."

"The tale of Wulfwaru is a long one, but suffice to say that he became a powerful enemy of Chaos and aided the Lunars in driving the broo tribes and their Shadow masters away from Moagara and into the Wild Lands. He had five students, one of which was a man called Snakepipe. I would not say that Wulfwaru would be particularly interested in Ravensgate, but Snakepipe, if he is involved, would have his own agenda regardless."

"But this dwarf woman is even farther removed than that. Her motives for helping Atan? They could be anything you can imagine."

"I will check the quarters inwhich Irian Aros rested. Kaleb, Draxim? could you two assist me?" Sangraal asks. "Atan he you looked over your possesions to see if Irian slipped anything on you? If I remember the tale correctly Atan was unconcious when Irian found him."

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
"So I guess this sorta of answers the question of who was the other wizard in Potters Row. It may have been either Snakepipe himself or a student, the female dwarf Kreilla."

"But how does this all fit into the big picture," Atan scratches his head and just beigns thinking out loud, "OK. We were all pulled together, some be divine inspiration, at Grugni's where a Choas shrine was to be opened. Then we set off to Old Kurlew where once again Chaos was trying to release some evil on the world. Now here we encounter others, Irian in particular, who were being guided by the divine and arrive at the same momment that undead and demons are released. The Ghururgil clear out a shrine whose description is similar to the one in the tower at Grugni's. Obviously Chaos is on the move but what do all these events portend?'

"I am not sure about you all, but I feel a little lost in all this. What is our goal here? We have been thrust into something that still seems insubstantial to me with no clear cut objective."

"I say some of us should go catch up with Kildeer and talk to the swordelders to see what happened. Sangraal and someone else should go look at Irian's body with Kaleb and see if anything can be garnered. I would also like to find this Bucket character and put him to the question on the where abouts of his companions, but that may have to wieght."

Clearing his nostrils of the dirt from his years of traveling, the scruffy man looks at Sangraal.
With a shrug of his shoulder Kaleb says "sure" and heads to get his cloak and his bow and quiver.

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Ulwe listens to the Ranger and the Dawn-brother banter thier ideas back and forth. At times he nods in agreement and others his face scowls in disaproval.

As the two pause he interjects:
"Irian has had enough torment for any lifetime. He is at rest now. Do not disturb his sacred slumber for he is with the Lightbringers now."

[Kaleb buried Irian. Do you REALLY want to exhume his corpse?!]

Then he continues:

"Indeed it seems we sail upon an ocean of uncertainty. We need to calculate a course to navigate its unfathomable depths."

"First, the scrolls mention a name; Someone here in Ravensgate called Kruanru. If we could find this person they may give us a sounding by which we may set our next bearing."

"Secondly, Atan is correct in my reckoning. We should speak with the Humakti priests. Yet we should wait on Kildeer."

"After these deeds are in our wake we should deterimine our destination. These portents are ill and dark clouds gather. It will soon be time to reef the sails and weather this storm or perish in its fury."

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
"Kruanru is the high priest of the Swordelders," Vagn offers. "And it was a vision of Humakt that drew Irian to seek his council."

Through the kitchen doors the steady sound of Madfilin humming the marching tune that carried the Ghurugil from the Temple of the Ash Lion can be heard. Moments later the dwarf bursts into the main hall with a massive pitcher overflowing with ale.

"What's all this about work and running about the town?" Madfilin bellows. "Can't you spare a minute to eat and bathe and celebrate our good fortune? A tremendous blow has been struck, and it was our fist that did the striking!"

Savud smiles at the energetic cook. "It is a fair time, though I doubt these folk," gesturing at Madragar, Sangraal and the others "know the extent of it."

Savud is the first to pour a mug full of ale, but immediately passes it to Atan.

"A nest of evil both above the ground and below, right here under our noses, and it has been swept aside. A coven of such creatures as the Draud is a rare thing, and has before lived on for a generation without being discovered. And here more than a dozen of the beasts have been destroyed, and the lair of their mortal allies burnt to the ground."

"Gudr and his men have scattered," Savud continues. "And I would not doubt if they fled Ravensgate forever. We should at least drink a toast to that."

Vagn mentions, "besides, it is still not safe to travel through the town."

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
[ Joyner: I am checking the guest quarters in the Hall of the Ghurugil, not digging up Irian. Irian retired to the guest chambers last evening. I am wondering if he hid something there before he left.

Jason: Kaleb does not need his bow or any other gear to check the guest quarters ( except pants). We are not leaving the hall. I though Kalebt was an NPC ( not trying to boss Kaleb around) and I figured a ranger and a thief are better at searching for hidden things then a cleric.]

Sangraal takes a quick look around the common area, but Savud mentions "Irian didn't stay here last night. He took his leave of the lodge shortly after Atan and Kildeer made for Potters Row."

It might of well been a beautiful women with the way Atan's eyes remian fixated on the ale as it flowed into Savud's mug. "Savud, you are a genius!" chirped Atan as the pitcher passed from dwarf to elf. Frantically he pours himself a tall one.

"I guess we can take a small break.", with which he downs the first entire mug in one solid pull. Wiping his face on his sleve he then refills his mug before passing it on to Vhraalam.

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Sitting down at a table near the fire Atan again pulls the snakepipe from his pocket. Setting it on the table he studies it for a few momments as he sips his beer.

Apparently still searching for some answer he asks Vagn and Madragar, "Why would snakepipe make this? And is it the only one? What could it signify...a calling card to let everyone know he was there?"

Re: The Scrolls of Irian Aros
Seeing the Dwarf come in with a pitcher of Ale, Kaleb smirks under the bushy beard. Silently and qraceful as a cat, Kaleb slides next to Atan and smiles eyeing the pitcher.
"Might I have a pull of that, laddy" said in a gruff voice
