Re: You can go your own way you can call it thunder
The Aerendalen shakes his head a little and looks at Atan.
"You are brave and bold Atan Finith Ring. Your skills may very well be used in the present mystery. You have untapped virtues which you may not even know of and will present themselves at the opportune time. None here doubt you."
Ulwe waits a moment before continuing
"The Unknown surrounds us. It is deeper than the Sea of Hygurae and infinitely more vast the the skies above. That is all we can ever be certain of.
To be certain of anything in this world is a rare gift. Your uncanny instincts no doubt warn you of the Charkra. Mayhaps you feel the obligation of your Serig Sigil to protect the Nrall-ings.
You seem very certain that the Charkra are a perilous threat. Yet may I respectfully question your conviction?
You heard a rumor from Lyssay five days ago. There are many leagues between here and the Nrall. The Charkra may or may not be still haunting the mining village. It will take a long time to reach them. Will they still be there? Will the Ossenders or Dobrugians have marshalled thier forces to expell the infestation? Will the number of the Charkra such that your might at arms can overcome them? Can you be certain of anything?
I am certain these Scroll have appeared not by happy chance or strange coincidence. Divine Will is at work and I will not turn my back upon it."
[This is a desicion not to be taken lightly... We will not meet again. There has been talk of splitting the party now is the chance IF THAT IS WHAT YOU WANT. The scrolls are as solid a lead as we've got thusfar. The broo are unknown....]

"No, you may not question my conviction seafarer. You are a stranger of two days and know little of me or my companions. I will not tell anyone what to do but I am from the Nrall valley. Those are my people. Let your fate guide you. We will split Ulwe."
[All of you have used "divine" or "fate" to describe why you want to pursue the scrolls. In real life how many times have you based a decision on such? Since I don't hear a plan on how to use the scrolls, Atan will continue on his own way.]
[How are the Ghurugil taking all of this?]

Re: You can go your own way you can call it thunder
Hearing the ranger's harsh words, Ulwe shrugs his shoulder and turns away. He moves over to the table where Vagn and Naredru are peering over the scrolls.
He looks them over again tracing his finger along the strange symbol as he reads and re-reads Irian's writings.
"You would do well to read the scrolls again Atan. There are writings here of a Runelord. It is the first sentance of Irain's scroll. There are other references as well: the Fire-eyed child of Yelm. the visions of the Sword God and the Woman. These are not meaningless scribblings, and you blaspheme to suggest such."
[btw In my life I have NEVER used fate to determine anything. I am an athiest human photo-retoucher. Ulwe is an Elf Priest of Orlanth who does believe in such things. It is funny that Halle and Atan think so alike . And Ulwe has known Atan and the gang for 6 days thank you very much.]

[I would hope that at least some of the PCs would be influenced by a belief in the divine, since it is an integral part of Moagaran society.]
The Ghurugil remain silent. They are patient folk and the decision of the group to go this way or that really does not involve them. Savud seems ready to advise anyone that asks, but is not willing to intervene in a discussion that is so crucial to the future of his guests.

Sangraals interest peeked by the mention of at least a partial translation goes over and reads over the shoulders of the dwarven translators.
[Only Irian's writings on the scroll can be read. The Olmani script was beyond Vagn and Naredru's ability to translate, and the other inscriptions are completely indecipherable. -GM]

"Ironhoof and Kulbrae are dialects of Olmanii. With all these mercenaries about there may be an Olmanii amongst them. Otherwise we will have to locate a translator elsewhere."

"I can only lend my sword and shield to the matter of the scrolls," says Ruglan. "But, that is the path I believe I must follow. I will let another, more learned, person decide how to begin to solve this puzzle."

"Vagn, do you know of any who Olmanii in Ravensgate? Or a sage versed in the various dialects?"

Vagn shakes his head. "I don't. Ravensgate isn't a place for scholars and sages."

Re: You can go your own way you can call it thunder
While leaning over the dwarven spellcraft he points to scroll one, "Hey, that's the same line of symbols as the first two arcs on the second scroll."
Shifting over to the second scroll "See these are mirror images of each other, " he says while pointing at the first two arcs on the page that encircle the three pointed compass. "And the third and fourth arcs are duplicates as well. And these are identical up until the last few characters," pointing at arcs five and seven. "And the sixth one is a partial mirror image of arcs three and four."
[I numbered the arcs arbitrarily from left to right by assigning the number to an arc based on it's proximity to the left edge. I may be stating the obvious but hadn't heard it mentioned aloud yet.]

Re: You can go your own way you can call it thunder
Atan stands quiet for a momment, unsure of what his observations mean, then he continues, "Arcs 5 and 7 use the same symbols to start with as the middle sysmbols of Arcs 1 and 2."

"Maybe the repeats are commonly used words!" OK, Draxim's limited brain power is done for the day.

Re: do you smell smoke?
"You might be right" Kaleb smiles at Draxim. "Or, maybe a poem and those are repeating words?" he says continuing with the train of thought that Draxim started.

Re: do you smell smoke?
"Look, I don't like the idea of us splitting up. I pledged myself to Ruig and he passed on. I made a good freind of Meneloss, and he passed too. Ymris and Kezib are gone as well and they were like family. I made a promise to stand by all of you, and I'd stand by you too Kaleb, you've proven your a foe of Chaos, and true. But, I can't stand by you all if yer in diffren' places! The way I figure, Atan's folks are in danger right now, and that's something we can do something about. This other stuff, well, can we study it on the road or something, and we'll come back to it maybe?" he looks to each of the party members in turn, begging for assent.

Let's get out of the F'in Slow Down Sauce.
"Whatever course others may take," says Madragar, "I will set out for Dobrug in the morning. I must pursue the fate of Edrigan. Atan, Sangraal, if you go west, I shall go with you, at least part of the way."
To the larger group, he says "We are no flock of ducklings, to be always riveted together. Let us rather be an alliance, which meets and works together, but may pursue our individual goals in our own time and through our own methods."
"'Splitting up', as you put it, is advisable, I believe. We have far too much ground to cover to remain bunched together. Then, too, we make a conspicuous target. Had we all died in the battle here, who then would carry on our work?"
"No. I say let us each make our way."
With that, he absents himself from further debate and goes to speak with Vala and make preparations for his journey.

Re: Let's get out of the F'in Slow Down Sauce.
"Such heart felt arguments dancing across the floor for two noble causes. I know that I cannot provide much help here, with the scrolls, at this time, and it seems to me that my path may actually follow yours, Atan, so I shall follow your path, and help eliminate the Broo." Kaleb finishes, while grabbing his pack and weapons, to prepare for the long journey.

Re: Let's get out of the F'in Slow Down Sauce.
"It is not that I feel the scrolls are unimportant. It is that I think we have no direction solving the scrolls alone. For now, I intend to head west towards the Nrall Valley. Along the way I would like to track down Lyssa if she is still in the Cullwood and show her these scrolls. Maybe she can impart some knowledge hidden from us on these sheets."
"Madragar, we may travel together for some time still as Dobrug is close to our course of travel after the Charkra. If I have no luck finding a translator in Dobrug then the Olmanii plain will be my next step."
"I do not know if I walk in the right direction, I cannot know, but it is a direction that I think has a noble cause. In time maybe the Gods will let us see in this dark night of Chaos, but until then", Atan walks over to stand in front of Ruglan, "maybe our paths are not so different as we think."

"Very well," says Ruglan with a little hesitation. "We do need help to translate the scrolls, and we may find it along the way. I can also be of some help in Dobrug."
