Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
"Llovas, we found this in the debris at the Temple." Draxim shows Llovas the broken sword shard. "It looks like part of a sword. It is certainly steel, but I have never seen steel break li' that. What do you make of it?" Draxim's tone is deferential; the apprentice asking the master.

Grove part II
Ulwe pays close attention to Atan's plan.

"Threats grow like the deepening shadows gathering in twilight. They press about us from every quarter. Moagara is beset by many perils. In any direction we will find the work of our Enemy."

He pauses for a moment to let his words sink in.

"I agree with the Merek tracker. Something needs to be done. Anything. Let us journey to the Nrall Valley and investigate the Charkra menace. The other mysteries will reveal themselves in time. Very likely, new mysteries will present themselves as well."

Re: Grove part II
Llovas examines the shard of metal closely, then rises and walks to the hearth. In the flickering orange light of the fire the old dwarven smith rolls the bit of steel around in his fingers, mumbling in dwarvish beneath his breath.

"Hmmm," he muses. "It's shattered. Not bent, but broken. Strange... yes. Steel can break like this if very cold, or if struck with sufficient force. But such force would have to be very great indeed. I can't imagine what could have caused it unless sorcery is involved, or some being of immense strength."

Llovas gives the shard back to Draxim and shrugs.

[Note that Lyssa made for the Cullwood the same day the party left the Grove. It is unlikely she has returned after only five days.]

"Well! A being that can furrow the stone of the house of the Sword Elders like a toddler grabbing a warm stick of butter, and can shatter steel like Bucket stepping on dried unleavened bread shouldn't be too hard to find."

[2 3 4]

"What about Ulfmandir? Has anyone seen him in all of this? If it was him, why would he be attacking the Sword Elders? And why are they so surly all of a sudden?"

I don't read threads, I "skim" them
[Ulefmandir? I don't remember him.]

[Ruig identified Ulfmandir as the owner of Lanternkeep. He is rumored to be a half-giant and a sorcerer, though few have ever seen him. Ruig said that Boahur had once been inside Lanternkeep but refused to discuss it. -GM]

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
[None of you have seen Boahur in days.]

Raising an eyebrow at the inquisitive Draxim, Savud simply advises "It would be unwise to disturb Ulfmandir."

"Boahur is fine," Savud replies flatly. without taking his eyes from the fire.

Master Savud, I'm mindful of your warnin' and I erm don't mean no disrespect, but is it possible that Ulfmandir did that? I mean that would be bad right?

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Savud remains silent and grim for a moment, then turns to smile at the young dwarf.

"Draxim, I know little more than you of the enigmatic creature that resides in yonder keep. It has been almost twenty years since that bull headed beast, Orda the Hammerer, came to the gates of the Red Citadel with his horde. I have not seen Ulfmandir since."

"But on that day I witnessed his power with my own eyes. I believe that if the Master of Lanternkeep wished the destruction of the Swordelders it would be done, and the deed not left half achieved."

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Atan looks around to see if anyone else is confused, "Orda was a Broo? So, Orda the Hammer fought Ulfmandir and Ulfmandir hasn't been seen since?"

[Wow my short term memory must be shot! I don't remember any of this.]

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
From "The River" thread of Chapter II:

Quote:
"His name is Ulfmandir, a half-giant they say. There are those that believe he is the last of some ancient race, or the priest of a god long dead. He keeps a garrison of his own, you see, in the base of his tower. No one troubles him and he cares little for what happens in the town."

"But one day, when I was but a child, Orda came to Raven's Gate, Orda the Hammerer. A great bull headed broo he was, leading a mighty army. They came down from the mountains. It was a great battle, and when at last the garrison was driven back from the walls, and the Citadel gates were burst asunder, Ulfmandir came to the ramparts. He alone stood before the horde and breathed forth a choking mist. The strongest broo had led the charge and the half-giant's power struck them down like scythed wheat. Ah, I wish I could have seen it. That was as close as the broo ever got to Raven's Gate, and probably ever will."

Re: The Temple of the Swordelders, part deux
Noting the unresponsiveness of the Yelm Priest, Kaleb scratches his scruffy beard and clears his throat.
"Irian believed that a powerful warrior or priest of Yelm was trapped somewhere in Moagara. Beneath the earth or in some other place he could not say, but his visions kept him driven towards the goal of finding this man. Has any of the learned in the ways or religion ever heard of such a thing? I thought this man was crazy but after a while I slowly started to think either he was completely obsessed or that he was being driven by Yelm himself."

Re: Temple bound.
Tolm, the Ghurugil healer, sits up from his reclined position and takes a swig of ale. The dwarf seemed to be sleeping in his chair but is suddenly awake and involved in the conversation.

"The forests are full of those who wander from the safety of river and road to seek after the puzzling visions of the gods. Some may be touched by the Lightbringers, yet never reach their goal. Others are merely mad and their quest doomed at the outset. Who can say into which category Irian Aros falls?"

Re: Temple bound.
"Well someone musta seen somethin'! Great big walls don't go gettin' gouged li' that with no one noticin'! What are the Sword Elders hiding? They are no freinds of Chaos that's certain. Why are they treating Atan like a smelly jackal-headed broo? Maybe Ulfmandir just wanted to get to someone who was within their walls? Once he did he left and that's why the job went unfinished?" Draxim is becoming frustrated at life's complexity.

Re: Temple bound.
Algeir grins at the rambling young dwarf.

"You could always ask Ulfmandir yourself, Draxim."

Algeir starts to laugh at his own joke, but a sharp glance from Savud silences him.

Re: Temple bound.
[So far as I know we went to the Temple and returned already...]

Ulwe though determined to find some direction for the party to follow by supporting Atan's decision to venture to the Nrall Valley, is also distracted by the mystery of Irian Aros. He is immediately interested in what Kaleb and Tolm said.

"Irian Aras must have been on course for some hidden Rune Lord of Yelm. Who is to say if the Dawn-Brother was mad, I never knew him?"

[ooc: Guys let's try to get an idea what we want to do. As has been discussed there are tons of options for us. We can go anywhere and do anything.

This mystery seems pretty cool. A quest to find a Runelord seems like a worth while cause. Though hunting broo seems an easier option, I think a more heroic pursuit is the mystery of Irian Aros. So I am changing my fickle mind...]
