Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Naredru looks down into his mug and mumbles "I don't know what it's called but it's not bad. I kinda like this local ale, though..." The elven wizard finishes his sentence but is speaking so quietly no one can hear him above the dull roar of the tavern.
At the nearby table, Hval asks "Vig, you know the one that starts 'We got two ugly maids and they something something with their bosoms and...'
Vig interrupts "You shouldn't talk about your sisters like that, Hval. I've shagged them both and they're only ugly from the front."

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Hearing the rowdy banter of the nearby table, Atan mumbles to himself, "Hval....Hval. No, it was Hothreidal who fought at Pulyoke." Answering his own question he takes a drink of his ale and looks around the inn.
[Heh, yea. Hothreidal would probably stand out in a crowd considering he's the high priest of the largest Urox temple in Moagara. -GM]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe's attention is drawn to the loud and attention hogging Vig. He draws a silver from his belt poch and approaches the nearby table.
"Vig! If we cannot hear about Hval's sisters, perhaps you can tell the tale of Pulyoke instead. We have returned from parts North and have yet to hear any news. I'll buy you an ale for that tale."
(Diplomacy +2 ooc trying to gain a favorable reaction and possibly hear some news)

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
[OK, I'm not sure what it says in the PHB, but Diplomacy is NOT useful for initial reactions with NPCs or for getting a nice table near the window at the local pub. It's for negotiations, fast talking, or getting an NPC to change his mind.]
Ulwe steps up to the raucous table and can barely be heard above the noise of the soldiers and their shouting.
"A silver, what?" Vig hollers, clearly only hearing part of Ulwe's offer. It is at this point that Ulwe notices that the man is absolutely filthy, his armor in bad repair, but apparently has a silver plate on his head tied around his chin by a leather strap. Odd.
"Tell you what elfkin. I'll give you two silver to sit on Hval's lap and sing him an elven lullaby!"

Lets ditch this place
Atan leans over to Madragar, "Maybe you should take Vala closer to the door. I don't think this is a place we really want to be in for much longer." Looking over at Kezib, "Get Ulwe. Tell him lets go."
Atan stands and puts silver on the table.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe laughs
"If his sisters straddled aside me I'd do it for three or perhaps free, but Hral there would not like my singing. And you rowdy soldiers don't look like you want to go to sleep yet so I'll save my lullaby for two ugly maids."
[At this point hopefully a bar-wench is nearby...]
"A round of Ale for these men!"
[ooc: Um ok... Then please at least don't forget my CHa bonus of +1 if you are rolling for NPC reactions...]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
"And woman!" a voice calls out from the far end of the table. Ulwe hadn't noticed but a swarthy young lady, her hair cut short, had her forehead firmly planted on the table. Hearing something about free ale she make a brief foray out of her inebriated stupor and makes her presence known.
"Yes, that's..." Vig counts around the table. "One two three... five... eight!" Vig counts himself twice.

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe nods to the woman at the end of the table and adds to the barmaid:
"Nine ales" (Do they have pitchers?? - if yes then a Pitcher.)
When the ale gets to the table, Ulwe picks one up holds his mug in the air and salutes Vig.

Madragar agrees with Atan's assessment, and with a whispered word to Vala, starts heading for the door.

Nodding to Atan, Kezib slides up and nudges Ulwe and says loud enough for Ulwe to hear "We are leaving. Not looking for trouble this night"

Cut and Run
[What so soon? Aww c'mon and stay for one more drink....]
Ulwe nods to Kezib. "Ok I'll see you later at the Lodge."
After saluting Vig and the table of soldiers, Ulwe says:
"If you've returned from Pulyoke, I'd like some news. I've only heard the vaguest of rumors and a first-hand telling of that tale would be worthy of another ale."

Moving On
"Then perhaps the soldiers will hint more broadly," says Madragar to those nearby.
"Let's find a quieter place. Slaeg Gnara has shown us more than enough violence and crudity. We need not seek it out here in Raven's Gate."

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Just as the group reaches the exit Atan tries one last time. "Ulwe!", he yells loudly so as to be heard over the din of revelry, "Are you coming with us?"

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe looks back over his shoulder and waves off Atan and shakes his head no.
He turns back to Vig and his comrades, waiting to see what happens next...
[ooc: Who are leaving at this point? Atan Madragar Vala and Kezib... The rest? Naerdru?]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Ulwe remains in the Raven's Rest along with Naredru as the others move out into the street.
The cool autumn night in the town is dark but full of sound. The group moves between pools of light, lanterns set above the doorsteps of taverns, brothels, inns, more taverns and even more brothels. The streets are mostly cobbled, but pools of rain water and mud await the unwary. The bustling crowd of staggering drunks and armed men (including staggeringly drunk armed men) rolls this way and that, wisps of steam rising from warm bodies in the evening air.
Ruglan takes the lead, maneuvering the group deftly through the crowds and toward what he hopes is a better part of town. Moving east, the group approaches several promising taverns only to be quickly disappointed. The Falcon's Tooth had a warm inviting air, but two men bursting through a shuttered window, laying into each other with fists and elbows spoiled the scene. Radjad Tavern, a long hall below street level, had an inch of standing water that sloshed in brackish waves with the movements of its careless patrons. The Firestem seemed to be a quiet place until Ruglan opened the door to find that the silence was due to three men pointing daggers at each other in a tense standoff. Ruglan decided to pass.
Determined to find a clean, dry, quiet place to enjoy a pint or two (in a town in which such a place may not exist), Ruglan marches further east. Moving down a narrow row of two story houses that is mercifully free of brothels, Draxim murmurs "I think we're being followed."
Just as Draxim's words pass through his clenched teeth, a lone figure glides out of the darkness, coming down the street from the other direction. His presence would have passed unnoticed as just another stranger in the crowd, but both Sangraal and Atan spin sharply around and stare at the man's retreating back in the dim moonlight. Interestingly enough, they noticed him for completely different reasons.
[Note to Sangraal and Atan.]

Re: A Night at The Raven's Rest
Atan pivots about, staring intently at the passerby trying to recognize the silouhette. Cupping one hand to his mouth he calls loudly, "Who there swears Oaths of the Sereg Sigil?". Atan's posture seems tense, as if ready for a chase.
[GM - Sereg Sigil is from my history. Atan is hoping to recognize him but ready to chase should he be a dark friend that picked through the items of the slain.]

"A dark friend that was" Sangraal hisses softly for his campanions benefit " he stank of it."Sangraal steps aside to clear the alley way.
"Kezib?...." his trailing voice asking the question - can you catch him?

The figure walks on without any reaction to Atan's call.
