Re: A giant wooden badger
Sangraal nods in agreement with the scruffy inebriated thug.
"yes, Dalem told us not to go down there..." Sangraal does his best acting job to look absent mind, snapping his fingers as if to remember. " because... because...." Sangraal gestures to the guard as if the answer is right on the tip of his tongue.
[ Bluff +1 - but if this guy is that dumb and drunk maybe Sangraal will get lucky. Diplomacy+3 help? ]

Re: A giant wooden badger
"'cause I said so, tit." The pale skeleton man hisses, and glares at the mumbling priest. Sangraal quickly realizes that disengaging from the menacing guard would be a wise move, and follows Ruglan, Madragar and Ulwe through the door...

Ruglan, leading the way, opens the door and steps into the back room.

Re: A giant wooden badger
The back room is in fact a back corridor. An ample ten feet wide, the stained wooden floor and uneven walls meander more than forty feet through three pools of flickering lantern light. Two closed doors stand on each side of the hall and at the far end, descending into darkness in the far right corner, are a few rickety steps that probably lead to the forbidden cellar.
Ruglan and Madragar move into the hall cautiously, followed by Ulwe and Sangraal, the lanky guard closing the door behind them (but thankfully no sound of the portal being locked can be heard). From the inky shadows near the stairs emerges a short, powerfully built dwarf. A female, in fact, with long braided hair and a cascade of silver jewelry decorating her left ear. Her simple linen and leather clothing leaves her profession indeterminate and she has a confident and intelligent look in her eye. The dwarf woman has no obvious weapons.
"Stay there," she whispers across the shadowy length of the hall. "What are your names?"

"I am Ruglan, also known as brooslayer," says Ruglan. He nudges Ulwe slightly with his elbow.

Ulwe speaks up.
"I am Ulwe, a servant of Orlanth. May the winds fill your sail and your course be true. Thank you for meeting with us."
He looks her dead in the eye and stands tall.

Who am I?
"Sangraal brother of the dawn." he says curtly.

We're Batman
"Madragar," replies the tattooed westerner succinctly.
"And I now put the same question to you."

Re: We're Batman
The dwarf woman's eyes flicker with recognition when Madragar introduces himself.
"I am called Kreillah," she smiles. "There were rumors of a man claiming to have returned from Old Kurlew, and here he comes seeking me out. Why?"

Re: We're Batman
Ruglan snorts, "Just one man is rumored to have returned from Old Kurlew?" he asks. "We've heard you may be interested in treasure brought back from the giant's abode." Ruglan pauses a moment, "You may also gain some wealth if you can help us find our 2 companions."

Re: We're Batman
"Well," Kreillah shrugs. "One man made the claim. I do not know who had joined him, but I can see now that you were among those that returned from the expedition. And yes, I am very interested in what was found there, and even more so about that which was brought back. Did you lose your companions in the mountain? I could do little to aid you if that were true."

Re: We're Batman
"We did," says Madragar. "Two members of our company fell there. But those are not the two for whom we search. Two of our companions have gone missing in Raven's Gate, apparently because of our mission to Old Kurlew. We rather hoped you might be able to tell us something about that."
"And in return, you would be the first, other than a few close associates, to hear the details of our days under the mountain, and the wonders we saw there."

Back rooms and impending dooms...
Kreillah stares at Madragar for a long moment, her eyes fixed and unblinking, her expression emotionless.
"I believe we have much to discuss, and much that we can share with each other. But I am not put at ease by the arms and hard looks of your companions. What is your intention should I not say the words you wish me to, or reveal that which I have kept hidden?"

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
"We intend no violence towards you, Kreillah, or any other who does not seek to keep us from our companions. But this is Potter's Row, and we are not fools. No man goes unarmed here. And no dwarf, either, I trust."
"If you have something to tell us, why not do it now?"

Sangraal keeps silent intently scanning the shadows and the passegeway behind the female dwarf for anything amiss.

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
Kreillah pauses, a concerned and suspicious look passing over her face.
"I can tell you first that I don't trust you. There are few that can boast of seeing the mountain hall of Koraeus and return to tell of it, and here you are not a day in Ravensgate and have already found a stranger in the shadows of Potters Row. You are resourceful, as I can tell, and that -"
A door opens just a few feet to the Sangraal's right, an immense black shape pushing its bulk through the opening. It is Bucket, his impossible frame suddenly looming over Sangraal, Ruglan, Ulwe and Madragar. Kreillah, about thirty feet down the corridor, seems just as surprised by the sudden appearance of Gudr's henchman, and her hand swiftly disappears behind her back, perhaps to grasp some hidden weapon.
Bucket glowers at the five, their conversation quickly curtailed by his appearance. He speaks in a voice so deep and powerful that it seems to shake the rivets in Sangraal's helmet.
"You blockin the hall. Wanna talk," he says, pointing a giant digit at the farther of the two left-hand doors. "You go in there, or leave. Now get outta tha way."
The giant makes towards the double door that leads to the tavern's main room.

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
After the man-bulk passes, Madragar looks at Kreillah to see her reaction to the suggestion of the back room.
"We -have- been to Old Kurlew, and we have seen things no mortal man has seen in a generation. And we trust you as far as you, us. Which is to say that we can all be fools here or we can work to our mutual profit. Perhaps we should take this conversation somewhere more pleasant?"

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
Startled by the sudden appearence of Bucket, Sangraal tightens his grip on the haft of his flail. As the lumbering hulk passes by Sangraal steps to his right and back to cover the door from which Bucket appeared.
[OOC: Bucket...]
[GM Edit: Sangraal was trying to communicate with the rest of the party telepathically here. I've squashed it. Please try to keep everything in character. Thank ye. -GM]

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
Sangraal's eyes dart toward the room from which Bucket emerged a split second before the giant closes the door behind him. Strangely, the room was pitch dark.
Bucket lurches towards the door, his filthy leather apron glistening with spilled ale and a cloud of rancid body odor following in his wake. He pushes through the double door and the raucous sounds of the tavern spill into the hall. Without looking back, Bucket pulls the doors shut.
Down the hall, her green eyes narrowed and her hand still poised behind her back, Kreillah stares at Madragar, motionless.

Re: Back rooms and impending dooms...
Madragar smiles pleasantly, almost laughing. "I know -I- don't want to find out what's in there," he says to Kreillah.
"Will you join at slightly more reputable establishment? I personally guarantee that none of us, nor anyone known to us, will harm you."
