Re: Question of the night
Ulwe considers for a moment the Massive Bucket.

"Gudr may be even tougher than that leviathan. And he is not here. Right now, as large as he is and intimdating as he may seem, this Bucket is all we have. He seems to have appetites of the flesh. To keep up his lifestyle cannot be cheap. I propose we offer a bribe for information. Sal'el what do you think?"

[Ulwe doesn't drink the ale. It sits in front of him untouched.]

Re: Question of the night
"I imagine it will take an awful lot of something to get Bucket to give us any information," says Ruglan. "Something wrong with your ale, Ulwe?" asks Ruglan.

Re: Question of the night
The Alley:

Draxim doesn't see anything particularly noteworthy up on his ledge, and comes down to explore the shack. Prying open the rotting wooden door of the place, Draxim is greeted with a wave of noxious vapors that carry all the flavors of rotting flesh, excrement, and old urine. He hazards a quick look inside and sees only a few piles of trash.

Re: Question of the night
Sangraal ponders Ulwes idea.
"If Bucket is loyal to his masters then we will gain nothing but let them know we are looking for them." he whispers.
Bending low over the table so as not to be heard.
"I say we return the favor and grab a pail, a drunk pail."

Re: Question of the night
Madragar continues to wait. He worries about the tendency of those inside to act precipitously, but he determines to wait in the alley until they come for him or something goes wrong.

"Leave it open, Draxim," Madragar advises. "Many things that hunt the night do so by smell. Nothing will be able to smell us over that."

Re: Question of the night
[ooc: Ulwe ponders the mage outside 'hmm will he stick around if things get tough? ':b ]

Answering Ruglan, Ulwe responds
"I do not drink alcohol if I can help it. I'm sure the ale is fine."

Ulwe looks at the incredibly bulky behemoth gulping down gallons of ale. And he raises his eyebrow at Sangraal suggestion.

He then looks out into the hazy bar watching the denizens of the demi-monde.

Answering Sangraal as he continues to survey his surroundings Ulwe says:

"Impossible friend. He is simply to large to bear away by force or no. If we tangle with that fish things will get ugly, fast. Besides we have no clue who are his allies here."

He quickly offers an alternative

"We need not let on we are searching for Atan nor Kezib. We are looking for Kreillah, so that is whom we ask about. He has had dealings with the she-Dwarf. He may be less reluctant to speak of her whereabouts if we offer some gold.
Sal'el, What if you said that we had found some artifacts under the Mountain and were looking to sell them to the right bidder? Tell him Raega had bid so much but had heard that Kreillah was interested in things from Old Kerlew."

Re: Question of the night
Sal'el shrugs. "If I know the type of man this Gudr is, and am correct as to his vocation, I would say that Bucket is merely muscle. I could bring up the offer you describe to him, but that behemoth would likely not know what to do with the information. However, he may point out whoever among his company can speak for Gudr, assuming the man himself is not here in person."

Re: Question of the night
Ulwe shrugs.
"It is the best we have so far. If the Bucket can lead us to Gudr who can lead us to Kreillah then so be it. Ask if the monster can put us in touch with Gudr or his agents."

Then the sea-elf asks is companions "So how much gold do you have? We should offer him at least a few coins to see his reaction."

Re: Question of the night
Draxim follows Madragars advice and leaves the door open. He continues his search for a suitable hiding spot. "What kind of accursed alleyway doesn't have shadows to hide in." He quickly makes a sign of protection just in case the powers that be think he meant the other kind of shadow. The kind that sucks souls. He shivers involuntarily.

[Do the 2 unlocked doors lead into the Black Barrell?]

Re: Question of the night
"I think silver and copper are more common in these parts of the city," says Ruglan. "Gold would attract too much attention and possibly even get us into more trouble." Ruglan takes out 2 silver coins, saying, "This is probably more than most of these folks spend in a fortnight."

[The tavern is full of mercenaries, not peasant farmers. A mug of ale is 4 copper, so most of these men will probably spend more than 2 silver just in the Black Barrel tonight. -GM]

[I thought this was the shitty part of town. Up-town, sure, but if ya had money, why come to this cess pit?]

Re: Question of the night
Ulwe disagrees. :)

"Gold may be too much for your average scallawag, though that one..." He points his chin at the Bucket "...consumes more than two silvers worth of ale in one quaff from his flagon. Besides he is in the employ of someone who undoubtedly pays him more than the 'average scallawag' in this brutal hold."

Ulwe pulls out a shiny gold lunar from his pouch and hands it to Sal'el. He then looks expectantly at Sangraal and Ruglan.

"Is not the hope of discovering your friends or their captors worth a few gold? Besides, things will become yet more expensive before we find them. Let us pray it is only gold which we stand to lose."

Re: Question of the night
"Perhaps you are right," concedes Ruglan as he pulls out a gold coin out as well. "Our friends, are indeed, worth far more than a few gold coins." Ruglan reaches over and pulls Ulwe's untouched ale towards him. "Let me help you with that," he says with a grin.

Re: Question of the night
With a pouch jingling with gold, Sal'el makes for the ale-swilling leviathan that is the man they call Bucket. Ulwe, Ruglan and Sangraal watch his progress while trying not to be too obvious about it. More than once Ruglan catches someone at a nearby table staring at him and his companions, but they look away as soon as he notices them. Ulwe, Ruglan and Sangraal seem to have attracted a certain amount of attention, but not any more attention than they expected. The priests Ulwe and Sangraal simply stand out in this crowd, and it is clear to anyone that cares to look that their purpose in the Black Barrel is not to sample the local cuisine.

Sal'el approaches Bucket's companions first, striking up a conversation with one and slowly insinuating himself into the group as the minutes pass by. He appears to be extremely good at this sort of activity and before long he is laughing and swilling ale along with the half dozen cutthroats clustered around the belching behemoth.

Ulwe, Sangraal and Ruglan can see the moment when Sal'el makes his proposition. Bucket seems to think about it for a while, the rusted gears of his inebriated brain squealing in protest, then gestures to one of his companions. Words are exchanged, hand gestures, more words, and Sal'el heads for the table with one of Bucket's companions in tow.

Re: Question of the night
Without waiting for Sal'el's introduction, the stranger drops down into one of the chairs beside Ruglan and smiles a gap-toothed grin. The man is stout with thick arms and worn leather armor that strains against his well muscled bulk. His nose has probably been broken several times, and he sports a long scar that runs horizontally along his jaw from ear to chin, cutting a pale furrow through a thatch of stubble.

"Dalam is my name," he croaks in a voice like gravel falling down a drain pipe. "I hear yer lookin for dat dwarf woman, Kreillah, and got somfin to sell? Eh? Somfin from the mountain? Eh?"

Ulwe looks at Dalam and says

"Ten for a meeting. If all goes well, maybe more. But we are in a hurry. I'm not sure if our friend here has told you, we do have an offer from another interested party."

Re: Question of the night
Ulwe holds his palms up.

"We are not so stupid as to flash our coin here to the Black Barrel. The Gods know there are those who are less than scrupulous that may try to take our money. If you can do this, set up a meeting with the Dwarf-woman, we can pay three now and seven when we see her. Does that sound fair?"

"Bull," Ulwe addresses he Brooslayer "could you find another ale for our new friend?"
