Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Sangraal, too weak to even lift his head, watches the rooftops as best he can through the fading light of the setting moon. Atan, bodily hauling Ulwe through the streets on his own injured legs, and Draxim, doing his part to keep Madragar upright, skulk along behind Ruglan - who is himself still aching from being thrown through a door. The sounds of battle explode behind the group before they even reach the Black Barrel tavern as the Ghurugil lay into the shadow-cursed creatures following them. Blades sing and dwarves cry out savage warcries matched only by the ferocious howling of their adversaries.
A small mob has formed in front of the Black Barrel, attracted by the sounds of crashing lightning and mad melee to the north. Ruglan pushes his way through the throng, which gives the wounded band little notice.
A few hundred feet to the south Ruglan decides that it's time to head east towards the temple. The group moves along a dark, empty street to the distant crashing of sorcerous destruction. For a moment it seems to come from both the northwest and the far eastern portion of the city. Ruglan continues on.
On a silent avenue, just a few blocks from the Temple, Ruglan stops, bringing his shield and gleaming Ghurugil blade quickly to guard. Less than twenty feet to the east three ragged figures stand in the shadows. They are breathing heavily, as if having recently sprinted at the extreme of their ability. They are clearly armed.
Taking a series of quick breaths, Druuga spits out in his gravelly voice, "give up... the wizard... and you'll live."

"Form up," says Ruglan to his companions. "We'll hold them as long as we can. Atan, get the wounded to the temple."
Ruglan slowly advances towards the three, with those still able to fight.

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
When Ruglan says "form up," Ulwe raises his head, groans, then coughs up some blood.

"Move into the open," says Madragar. "Make them come to us. They're tired and hoping for a quick surrender. Fight defensively and wait for the Ghurugil."

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
"Leave Druuga, this will not end the way you want it. Madragar is not for barter." says Atan curtly as he gently lowers Ulwe to the ground.
Then in a whisper towards Madragar and Draxim, "Anytime you want to shoot Mad."

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Madragar struggles to keep his aim steady but his crossbow weaves side to side, alternately pointing at Druuga, Ruglan's back and the rooftop of a nearby building.
"Oh, I think I know how it will end elf," Druuga spits. He and his companions move a bit closer, entering the same pool of flickering lanternlight that illuminates Ruglan and those behind him. Druuga himself is in filthy leather armor and wields both a crude steel mace and a round wooden shield. He seems confident, and readies his weapon with wicked familiarity.
His companions are both larger than he and simply wield long oak batons - cudgels fully capable of smashing a man's head in.
"The chase is over Madragar. Time to go."

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Madragar thinks a bit, trying to stave off the fuzziness. He knows that firing his crossbow right now is a bad, bad idea.
So, he turns it around, jams it against his own heart and readies to fire.
"When the last of my friends fall, I go with them," he says, struggling for diction. "Your vicious master will learn nothing. He will stain Moagara no more than he already has."
"Draxim, set me down."

Druuga, speaking to Madragar but watching Ruglan's moves intently, pauses... then shrugs.
"Heh... I been told that secrets can be taken from you alive or dead."

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Atan stares at the bald mages bluff, "Dead or alive huh?" says Atan with a shrug. Looking back at Druuga nd his cronies, "I guess Gorgon will be able to grill you three losers on who killed you then."
"Draxim take Mad's crossbow and shoot this idiot."
[Atan shuffles close to Ruglan and Draxim and readies his sword to attack the first guy who enters his AoO.]

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Sangraal falls into line with Ruglan. Though barely able to ready his flail without falling over he clearly intends to die fighting.
[OOC: Sangraal will hold his attack waiting to strike at the first person who comes in range.]

"Don't do it, Draxim" slurs Madragar. "This is important."
That deathgrip Madragar has on his crossbow looks serious.

I gotta be meeeeeee
Atan holds up his index finger towards the three thugs, "Ummmm....one second guys." The dripping sarcasm is not lost on anyone.
Leaning over the barely concious fishmonger Atan whispers, "Your secrets are becoming a hinderance to us. Time to fess up or let us have an advantage for once. Now give the crossbow to Draxim, who is capable of shooting it, and he can decide when best to use it."

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
Druuga, impatient with all this conversation crap, attacks. The callous mercenary makes a move towards Ruglan, but pauses long enough for his two accomplices to charge in first. Ruglan lashes out at the first of the mongrels as they approach, cutting a deep gash in the arm of the man, who growls in pain but continues on. Sangraal makes a wild swing and manages to connect as well, but it is weak and has little effect on the thug, glancing off his worn leather armor.
The beady-eyed brutes move towards the flanks, ignoring Ruglan for the moment. One strides swiftly to where Draxim awaits and strikes the dwarf across the knuckles as he tries to parry the blow. A painful injury but not life threatening.
The other thug rushes Sangraal and nearly knocks the priest over with the force of the attack. Sangraal's armor is up to the task, and saves him from some broken ribs.
Druuga squares off against Ruglan, and despite his obvious skill the mercenary makes an unsuble swing for the watchman's head, a simple attack that is easily parried.

Re: The Battle of Potters Row
With all his strength Sangraal attacks the thug ( number 2) with a wild flurry of blows. Each swing painfully slow to watch, each swing horribly horribly telegraphed. "Damn this fell spell" he grumbles.
[OOC: attack thug 2 with Hvy Flail: +3 to hit ( - spell), 1d10 +3 dam ( - spell), crit 19-20. Then heroic surge: on either the thug 2, if he is'nt down or Druuga.]
