Re: Its a plan
Utama, standing a few feet to the side of the portal, reaches over and touches the nearest door with one long green claw. The mangled door moves slightly inward on its damaged but still working hinges.

"It would seem the demon could leave if it chose."

The dragonewt studies the smashed door for a moment, then turns away, seemingly deep in thought.

"There is something wrong here."

Re: Its a plan
After the party completes its explorations/search/what-have-you, Ulwe, in a loud clear voice, calls out for the group to reform on Atan's position by the great metal door.

To Atan's suggestion, Ulwe replies
"A precaution worthwhile, however, this demon is not bound by mortal portals. There is little else we can do now but to throw ourselves into the maelstrom. The Lightbringers will see us through, or witness our attempt and send others more worthy."

He watches Utama to see what the Dragon-newt has to say.

Re: Door number one.
As Sangraal helps himself to Draxim's Great Sword, he says "Your welcome to it brother slay lots of Chaos with it, and I have another. Thanks be to Yelm for the Light of healing", he adds. "Remind me not roast my arm anymore. That hurt!"

As Sangraal sets about obtaining the blade sharp oil, he says "I was using my axe to conserve the precious oil Sangraal. Perhaps you could use Pogar's old axe instead?"

Another series of screams and groans filters up the stairs. "If that's one of the ladies..." he chokes as he glances at the remains of either Theony or Chandra. "...we should go help her. NOW!" he adds a little too vehemently. Clearly the sight of the dead defender of the fortress is affecting him badly. Well that and having a demon regurgitate fire on him...

Draxim heads towards the downward stairs, joining Pogar.

"Let's GO!" he calls.

Re: Door number one.
Utama doesn't seem to notice Ulwe's suggestion as he appears deep in contemplation. When the lithe creature finally does turn to give his attention to the conversation it is with an inscrutible blankness of expression. The dragonewt raises one finger slightly and tilts his horn-crested head to one side in an ambiguous gesture.

"The Orb could answer many questions."

Re: Door number one.
Gathered with the party at the doors, Khelzhad takes a cue from Ulwe and switches over to his new [mc] sword and shield.

"Forgive me Utama" Sangraal looks a little befuddled "do we have time to ask the orb?"

Re: Door number one.
Draxim isn't leaving yet. He is just insisting on it. He has witnessed the peril of division so often now, that there is almost a tangible rope between him and the other party members. He is tugging one end of it, not dropping it and wandering off on his own.

"Think of poor Theony" he looks from Janes to Atan. "We have to save her if we can!"

"I like this not," declares Madragar. "Here lies Chandra or Theony. Where is the other? What makes the noise we hear from below? Atan, we should not plow into this obvious trap. Knowledge is might."

Re: Door number one.
Utama leans back against the wall and taps one black claw on the stone floor.

"Time is not a factor, but space," the dragonewt muses. "It is unlikely whatever skulks in yonder chamber would allow me the chance to reconfigure the apparatus unmolested."

Re: Door number one.
" What lies before us, is more then the life of any single person. We can not let this demon escape into the world." Atan sounds cold fighting down his own feelings. "We must not rush.

Mad- when the doors open - cast glitterdust into the room. That could give us so some time and if the demon is invisiable we can see him.

Mad - give Khelzad 2 of the magic missile scrolls. You guys take the back rank and keep peppering the demon with them. [OOC: Khelzad should have less problem with those scrolls since they are written at a lower level.]

[Khelzhad can't use Magic Missile, scroll or not. -GM]

Janes, Pogar - you guys get on either side of the door and open them when I give the command.

Sangraal give Ulwe two of the scrolls of cure moderate. Lets split up that healing in case one of you go down.

Sangraal, Draxim, Ulwe are the frontline. Mad, Khelzad second rank. Everyone else flank."

"Utama, how much time would you need? We can delay this beast and draw its attention so you may do your work."

[OOC: here is what I am thinking we form up and take on the demon. We protect Utama and give him time to work on the orb. We should not get distracted from our main task, which is to defeat the demon.

Re: Door number one.
Draxim is getting desperate. "Knowledge is might yes! So let's find out what's making all the noise! That demon coulda left but he did'n. Why would he leave now? Meantime we don't know what's going on downstairs. And if you'll pardon me saying so, how are we supposed to fight a mace with no one wielding it?"

Utama demures. "I have no strategy for how to topple this monarch of Chaos other than the activation of the Illuminating Orb. An enemy without form cannot be confronted."

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
The sound of chains dragged swiftly across stone echoes through the chamber, its source unknown. This is followed by a deafening, rythmic thump-thump, as if the entire Fortress were an immense beating heart. The air itself flows with blood before returning to the stony ruin of the citadel a split-second later. The sickening sounds and images foster a universal nausea among the companions. Janes vomits noisily.

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
"Something does not sit right. It waits for us within despite having the freedom to move. It must have, or believe it has, the advantage by staying put. But why? Does it know we come or does it fear something? Is it gaining power?" Atan pauses and looks at the door leaving the rhetorical questions unanswered.

"Alright Draxim, we will look in the fortress. But quickly. The babbling makes me think it is more of these twisted chaos creatures." Looking at each party member he adds, "Don't waste your magic. WE will have one shot at this. If this search becomes a drain on resources we will return here without the person crying with in."

"Janes, get a hold of yourself and lead us. Take us to the cries below. By twos, shieldbearers first, then Ulwe and Draxim, Sangraal and me, Mad, Utama last."

[Is our Sense Chaos-o'meters going off? (sense chaos +3)]

[Actually, no. -GM]

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
For someone who always has an opinion, Khelzhad seems uncharacteristically distracted from the conversation, as if day dreaming.
