"I agree. Our quarry is beyond those doors." He points to the doors before him.

"We will only sap our strength if we search the fortress. The sounds we hear and this dead creature before us is the manifistation of chaos itself. We should waste no more time. We know what we need to do. Lets do it."

"Protect Utama and let him reconfigure the orb. There fore destroying the demon."

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
"You priests can sit there and tinker with some otherworldly apperatus when the cries of the innocent are falling on your ears? I obviously need to worship some other god than the ones you follow."

Janes starts moving towards the stairs, crossbow out and loaded. While he is moving quickly, it is not so quickly that he isn't being carefull.

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
[There seems to be some confusion as to what noises are coming from below:

From the GM:
Quote:
From somewhere deep within the Fortress, echoing mainly up through the descending stairwell to the west but also radiating through the floor itself, a great hissing can be heard. It is a long, angry and feral sound like that of a serpent ready to strike.

Quote:
Low moans and incomprehensible babbling can be heard, however, rising up from somewhere below

From Kenner:
Quote:
Another series of screams and groans filters up the stairs. "If that's one of the ladies..." he chokes

[Keep in mind that is was Kenner, not Scott that described them as screams. Atan decided we should check it out quickly but Ulwe disagrees - how much longer are we going to debate? does it go to a vote? what does the coalition provisional authority say?]

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
You missed this one during the fight with the fire-spitting ceiling blob:

Quote:
A chorus of not so distant screams emerge from the depths of the Fortress. Whether they are howls of rage or screams of agony is not quite clear.

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
Sangraal bristles under Janes sharp tongue but ignores him.

"Atan, you are wrong in this case. I would not cross your counsel lightly but the beast lies through those doors. For all we know the gates of hell could be opening up underneath this tower. Chaos strives to decieve! It speaks lies and whispers false. Utama asks us to come forth to defeat the demon and that is what we must do!"

"Come on Ulwe. Let the men of faith lead the way. Form up."

[OOC: Sangraal moves towards the doors. How do you open the doors?

Remember guys, Sangraal belongs to an order that hunts Chaos. He has studied chaos.

[The doors are opened, presumably, by pushing them.]

[Vote with your feet folks. Janes is headed for the stairs, Sangraal determined to advance through the doors. What do you do?]

"No one disputes that, Ulwe," says Madragar. "The question is whether we might not be better fit to fight if we understood what is happening here. Perhaps the answer to that conundrum lies with the sounds below."

"Atan, someone should remain here to watch the doors. I recommend myself and Watcher Utama."

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
"Sangraal we agreed to follow Atan when there was a dispute! Come let Utama study for a while. The pressing matter is below!" Draxim screams at them like a seargent addressing raw recruits. He looks like he will burst a blood vessel. He then gathers himself says a quick prayer of thanks, and follows Atan and Janes down to the screams.

[OOC It is just in Draxim's idiom to insist on going down the stairs. To him the peril of either Chandra or Theony is the overriding consideration. ]

Re: ...Or Door Number Two
[[Is our Sense Chaos-o'meters going off? (sense chaos +3)]

[Actually, no. -GM] ]

"Ulwe and Sangraal. I have always said I would do what the majority of the party wishs. In this case I think the majority disagree with your perception of this matter. This is something we all have agreed to abide by."

"Now, my senstivity to chaos is not as great as some but if the great lord of chaos was behind those doors I think someone would notice. Before we could sense it and now we don't. Utama agrees something does not seem right."

"So, everyone hold and be still. Ulwe, Sangraal. See if you can feel the presence of Irigaal where I cannot."

[GM- Are the shadows we cast long or short? Can we gauge them as to how we saw them the first time we visited? Basically I want to see if the light of Irigaal is below the plane of the floor.]

Yelms Teeth!
"I have felt him. He is behind the door. His presence is befouling the stonework of the tower itself. He is tearing the fabric of space apart and the demons beyond howl with glee. Remember chaos infects this place. We moved the table outside when studying the notes becuase of sounds heard and thing seens that were not there. This demon means to decieve us while it seeks to free itself from its prison! Do not be fooled. We waste time while he grows in strength."

[OOC: I did a sense chaos a few posts back and a knowledge roll. Irigaal is behind the door and the place is twisting becuase of chaos!]

Re: Yelms Teeth!
Ulwe winces from some unseen force. He holds his had to his head and says to Atan:
"There is a presence of Great and Terrible Chaos beyond these doors. I have never felt anything like it, not even when facing Urkavas."

The sea priest then says to Sangraal:
"I am with you Dawn Brother."
Ulwe steps next to the greatsword weilding Yelmite, and pushes open the door.

Dude.............
Quote:
Ulwe steps next to the greatsword weilding Yelmite, and pushes open the door.

The rune metal javelin snaps up ready to throw, "Fool!" he cries. There is little doubt of whom he speaks.

Yelling aloud, "Keep the formation spaced apart. The hand of chaos has forced our throw."

[Atan readies the javelin and will throw it if Irigaal shows himself, (+7/1d8+2)]

Door number f'tagn.
The bent and mangled iron doors swing open on twisted hinges, the screeching of their movement tearing a ragged hole in the air. The walls of the short corridor throb inward in a way quite unlike normal stone, contracting the passage like the throat of a man hanging from the gallows. The shadowy wall lurches toward the companions, pushing the corridor back into shape, but retreats just as quickly without actually touching anyone. The air is cool and damp after its passing.

A shape, human in form though large and muscular, can be seen vaguely through the shadowy miasma. It stands among the mysterious tubes and steel spines of the apparatus, regarding them, or perhaps manipulating them. A rod of pure fire, four feet long and surmounted by a blazing sphere, is in its grip. While the identity of the creature cannot be discerned, it is obvious that it wields Irigaal.

[Map!]

[Nice Cthulhu reference. Dream ritual huh?]

[The map you have is accurate enough for now. The party is gathered around the door and the "shape" is near the sarcophagus. -GM]

Honey, I'm home!
"Irigaal!" calls Madragar. "The sons of Hralma have come. Return now to the madness of your birth. Die and trouble the lands of light no more!"

With a fervor that rivals that of his priestly companions, he intones the unbinding words of the shining disc in his hands. As the disc dissolves into crackling motes of power, the wizard's face is lit from below, casting eerie shadows across the smooth-shaved planes of his face.

Cyan bolts of controlled power leap across the intervening space at the shadow-beast.

Re: Honey, I'm home!
The wizard's evocations lance into the miasma of shadow and seem to strike the mysterious shape lurking in its depths. The effect the missiles have on the shadowy figure is impossible to discern, but they do get the creature's attention. The shape turns and begins striding resolutely toward the companions, the fiery mace that contains the last living essence of Irigaal clutched in its right hand.

The inky miasma shudders and twists in the creature's wake, but then swiftly flows toward it, the darkness seeming to pour into the tall humanoid shape until the room is left bathed in the intense firelight of the Shadow. The creature is human, and quite obviously of Lunar heritage. He is tall and of noble features, well muscled and with a commanding eye. The last rotting whisps of his burial robes still cling to his body, the revivified Emperor Zulquerzarhen. Behind him the sarcophagus lays open, its lid ruptured, useless runemetal shards scattered around its perimeter.

"Such insolence," the Emperor declares in heavily accented Moagaran. Out of thin air a bolt of pure darkness appears several feet in front of the tall Lunar sovereign and in an eye-blink plunges through the companions' formation and strikes Madragar in the chest. The wizard flies ten feet straight backward and tumbles another fifteen through the broken rubble in the main hall before finally coming to rest. Madragar groans pitiously but then quickly slips into unconsciousness.

Standing proudly and brandishing the massive, flaming mace in his hand, Zulquerzarhen regards the companions with a callous eye.

"Attend me, slaves. Where is the captain of the garrison?"

Map.

Re: Honey, I'm home!
Ulwe does not reply with words to Zulquerzahren, but with a length of cold rune-metal. He takes three long strides and whips the javelin at Emperor of the Lunars.
