Tragic bad luck...
Ulwe boldly hurls the runemetal javelin at the strutting Emperor. Swift as a serpent's strike the missile cuts through the air and whistles plaintively over Zulquerzarhen's shoulder [Fumble!]. The deadly javelin plunges into the guts of the apparatus, smashing through vital mechanisms and masses of grotesque leather tubes, causing untold damage to the fragile machine.

Re: Tragic bad luck...
Ulwe's stomach sinks and his heart rises to his throat at seeing the ill effects of the miss. He keeps his attention focused on the Emperor however.

[Before anyone goes getting all upset, rolling a fumble is certainly beond my control :( , now if I had gotten a 20, I would be taking the credit rather than blaming bad luck. ]

Sangraal turns to Utama with an incredulously look in his eye.

"Utama?" its a one word question seeking guidence yet resonating a fear of betrayal.

The dragonewt returns Sangraal's glance and opens one claw in an ambiguous gesture.

[Why do you think we would get upset? It is just roleplay. Get a grip on yourself man! ]

"Ulwe you treasonous bastard! Now look what you've done! Madragar's dead, and you broke the thingy and the whatzit... Ah, to Humakt with it! UROX!!!!" Draxim realizes that he needs to murder someone soon, and decides to focus on the obvious enemy.

[ charge 35' SW putting him directly east of Z. +12 to hit 1d8 +8 damage ]

Khelzhad runs to the fallen Madragar [2 NE, 1E] and pours the second flask of healing potion he carries down the wizard's throat.

"A toast to you, friend, but the quest is not finished."

[What sort of potion is that? -GM]

Re: Tragic bad luck...

Miraculously, Madragar regains consciousness after Khelzhad's draught. The wizard's brains are still rattling around in his head, however, and his eyes are glassy and dilated.

[Madragar is, in fact, stunned.]

The name of the war god on his lips, Draxim barrels into combat with the resurrected Emperor. Bounding across the last few yards of open ground the dwarf lays into his foe with gusto. His battleaxe is met inches from Zulquerzarhen's chest by the flaming scepter, the sentient weapon spitting gouts of smoke and fire over both combatants. The Lunar towers over Draxim, and with a shrug of his powerful shoulders knocks the dwarf back several paces.

Pull me out, Coach! Number 17 has it in for me bad!
Unable to formulate words, Madragar simply grasps Khelzad's arm in mute thanks. He sits up and tries to rub the black motes from his eyes.

Atan, quick to get away from the juicy target of Madragar, follows Ulwe's lead and breaks into a sprint across the room. Breaking to a halt, a takes quick aim and lets fly with the runemetal javelin.

kick number 17 in the jimmy!
Unuse to the wieght of the burrowed greatsword and the full suit of chain Sangraal takes off in an unbalanced loping gait. Attemping to match speed with the quicker elven archer Sangraal passes the elf by as Atan stops to hurl his javelin and take up position to the west.

[Sangraal moves 3 SW and 4 west. Should put Sangraal very close to Atans end location]

Kapow!
Atan heaves the javelin but is quickly disappointed. The throw looks like it is to be a clean miss, and visions of another javelin smashing into the delicate apparatus flash through his mind. At the last moment, however, the javelin makes a subtle change of direction mid-flight and catches Zulquerzarhen in the shoulder. Blood streams from the wound, but it is a minor hit and one that is largely ignored by the Emperor as he fends off the dwarven duo.

Pogar utters a barbaric yalp and charges into battle. Standing shoulder to shoulder with Draxim he executes the time-honored overhead chop, but the attack is easily avoided by Zulquerzarhen.

Satisfied that Madragar is, for the moment, out of danger, Khelzhad rises to make his way back to the combat. As he watches, Utama pulls a gold medallion from his neck and reads some incomprehensible incantation from it. In a flash the dragonewt disappears, reappearing a moment later standing within the tangle of instrumentation that makes up the apparatus. Seeming to ignore the combat nearby, Utama gently removes Ulwe's javelin from the machine and begins inspecting the damage.

Avoiding the companions' kraftpunkt, Janes sidles along the right flank until his watchful eyes spot a burnt and bloodied body laying atop one of the stout wooden tables to the west. Dropping his crossbow in his haste, Janes utters a mornful cry and sprints toward the unconscious form of Theony, a pair of long daggers apparently nailing her unconscious body to the table. Her superb armor torn and mangled, her hair blackened and singed, the young lady lays amid a pool of her own blood.

Consumed with fury at the ragged barbarians daring to oppose him, and his hate drawing strength from the malignant depths of Irigaal itself, Zulquerzarhen smashes Draxim with a brutal overhand swing. Smoke rolls outward from the Emperor's snarling mouth as the mace of raw fire knocks aside the dwarf's parry, strikes hard upon his shoulder and continues on unhindered to the stone floor. The flagstones beneath Draxim's feet shatter into fragments and a pool of liquid fire pours outward. The concussion of the blast sends Draxim flying and causes Pogar to stumble as well, tongues of fire washing over the maddened dwarf and smoke choking his lungs. Pogar manages to keep his feet but Draxim rolls head over heels before landing on his neck.

Ulwe's enchantment seems to be serving Draxim well. Pogar feels certain that had he been the target of the Emperor's wrath that he may not have survived it.

Map updated.

[Draxim and Madragar are moderately wounded. Pogar is lightly wounded.]

[Round two. Go.]

Re: Kapow!
Seeing how easily the Emperor dealt with the the hardiest of the Companions, Khelzhad sheathes his sword and readies his crossbow.

[is that one action or 2?]

[Just drawing a sword is usually a free action, but getting a crossbow off his back and loading it would take a full standard action. -GM]

Zap!
Does Madragar think that Zulquerzharhen might be undead (as opposed to merely reanimated)? Knowledge (Arcana) +9

[Note to Madragar.]

Madragar stands, snarling, and reads a second scroll of magic missile.

"Disarm him!" he shouts. "Disarm!"

Re: Zap!
Twin iridescent missiles soar down the corridor, speeding unerringly toward the Emperor. Yet Madragar can only watch with intense frustration as the bolts of force change course and vanish harmlessly into Irigaal's fiery brilliance.

The distraction is enough, however, for Sangraal to make good his assault. Coursing with a crimson glow his duergar blade cuts the Emperor across the back. A normal man of mortal flesh would have been nearly cut in half by the blow, but Zulquerzarhen's body does not yield. Sangraal draws some blood from the half-naked sovereign, but little else.

Ulwe levels the runemetal spear of Korigalos. No snarl visits his lips, no warcry is bellowed from his lungs. In silence, the sea-elf charges at his foe. The priest an instrument of his God, rushes to the kill.

Zing!
Pleased with himself that he too didn't add to Utama's problem, Atan continues his movement around the emperor. Finding a clear lane he pulls forth from its bone casing the one magic arrow found with Urukavas.

Setting it to his string, he admires the mastercraft work of some ancient fletcher before he pulls the bow to full draw. Aiming carefully to avoid his friends, he fires at the back of the Emperor.

[move 5SW. Shoot +8/1d6+2 + magic?]
