Re: Tragically bad luck, part deux
"No!" says Madragar. "He is lost to the world, but only for a few moments. He will not respond for a few seconds, no matter what you do. Remove his head from his neck! NOW!"

[Take note: Hypnotic Pattern is simply an area of effect Hypnotism spell, and those that succumb to it are treated as if Hypnotised. Even potential threats can break the spell, and obvious ones do so automatically. -GM]

[The spell description says that they stare at the lights, ignoring everything else. But, of course, Rule #0 is that the GM is always right. :) ]

[It does say that. It also says that the victim acts as if under the effects of Hypnotism spell. -GM]

"And for the god's sake, don't touch that mace."

Re: Tragically bad luck, part deux
As Janes runs off from Theony carrying a bag of healing potions, Ulwe shouts loudly: "STOP!!!"

He warily regards Atan, being sure to take some cover near the table.
Looking down at the badly wounded girl he moves the examine her wounds. The priest hesitates to remove the daggers pinioning her lithe frame to the table where she lies. Remembering, previous lessons and beginning to place together current events, he is not sure who is friend or foe. He is not even sure of himself. All he does know at this moment is there is a war being fought for his soul as fierce as the life/death struggle in the chamber of the Illuminating Orb.
"What has happened of Chandra, what has happened to you?" He questions the broken Daughter's Daughter of Wulfwaru, descendant of Hralma.

[Janes is carrying the majority of the party's healing FYI. Also GM, Can Ulwe make an action based on the actions of others, since he is right now just talking? ]

[Sure. -GM]

I must not be paying attention, when did I get the healing potions?

[It's not like I havn't tried that before. Can't do it now. Could have roll played that rather then OOC. Negative XP.]

Atan shakes his head in disbelief as he sees the arrow protruding from Ulwe's back, but then remembers the warning of hallucinations caused by raw Chaos and dismisses it.

"Remember why we are here. Don't get strung out, he can bounce arund and if he catchs one of us alone...that's it for them. Madragar come to us. Form on Kelzhad."

...
[Ok, hold it.

Normally I wouldn't step in like this but my ruling on Hypnotic Pattern bears repeating, and its effect on the current situation is critical.

Any vaguely hostile movement toward Zulquerzarhen will give him another saving throw. The chances of Madragar's spell getting through Irigaal's spell resistance, and the Emperor's Will save was incredibly small - but it happened. It is unlikely to happen again. Any overtly hostile act will automatically cancel the spell's effect.

Now, Madragar would know those specifics despite the difference in understanding between Nolan and I. So, unless Madragar wants his spell to immediately cease to function it is logical to think he would yell out something other than "get him!" As it stands, with a duration of "Concentration +2", Madragar can essentially keep an evil, destructive demigod pinned indefinitely just by concentrating on it. If Atan shoots his arrow the spell will be broken.

So, feel free to amend your actions. I may be cruel, but I'm not capricious.]

Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
With the power invested in me by the high and mighty Game Master, I hereby invoke the "Madragar Mulligan" rule. Instead of his previously-reported outburst, what Madragar really said was:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Madragar stares unmoving at the man who once was the mightiest mortal on the planet. His hands move slowly, as if shaping something his companions cannot see. He speaks slowly and evenly, allowing nothing to break his well-trained concentration.
"Z," (he does not even use the Emperor's name) "has a date with some very pretty lights right now. Nothing, and I mean nothing can be allowed to threaten him, or even seem as though it might. One slip and I will not be able to hold him."
"Utama holds the cards now. Help him, if you can. Let no one approach 'Z' or even hint at less than friendly intent until Utama gives his approval."
Re: Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
[Time is of the essence so we're going to continue to use the round structure for actions.]
Draxim follows Sangraal into the main hall, but both slow their pace when they hear Madragar's warning. Janes bounds into the guts of the apparatus. Utama growls at him, however, when he tries to dislodge a mundane looking pile of braided leather cord, so the human thinks better of it.
Re: Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
"Wont Irigaal threaten him? It knows that its wielder has come under sway. Its only a matter of time till Irigaal figures out a way to break the spell. Most likely by burning 'Z' back to reality." Sangraal asks slowing his pace to that of a cautious walk.
[OOC: Sangraal slows down to a slow walk at Madragars direction. Sangraal goes over to stand protectivly by the mage.]
Re: Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
Atan moves casually to the door way and grasps the edge and begins to swing it shut. "Form on the door way. When he breaks through the enchantment we need to be prepared for him, together. All we need is to give Utama enough time, killing the Emperor is nice but not necessary."
"Mad, can you come to us or do you need to stay there?"
[Atan moves 3NE, 1E, 1NE and shuts the left door.]
Re: Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
Ulwe motions over Janes to the table where Theony lays.
Remembering previous lessons like Kezib and Ruglan's possessions, Ulwe is careful to not get too close to Theony, as he repeats the question
"What happened to Chandra?"
[stays put but does not let guard down. ]
[What are you Crazy? Don't give him any ideas! He has plenty of good ones all on his own! "Gee, YT that's a good point. The demigod wakes up and kills you all." Only the next time you see it will be in blue font with much better descriptions and imagery. Sheesh!]
[Edit: action deleted.]
"Should I use the holy water on him?"
[ What is our wound status?]
[Draxim and Sangraal both did a full run this round. -GM]
Re: Whimsical, but not foolhardy...
Madragar says, again with the sound of deep concentration, "I can walk very slowly. Guide me."
If Sangraal or someone else will take his elbow and guid him, Madragar will back up towards the group, very slowly, and with all his priority on retaining concentration on the spell. He'll let the other guide him.
"His trance is very light. Tell the others to stop discussing Z's fate."
Burnination.
Theony collapses back onto the table, clearly at the limits of her strength. "She's dead," the swordmaiden whispers, consumed with despair.
Utama continues his work, though at one point a brilliant flash of electricity arcs from one of the many steel spines of the apparatus and shocks the crouching dragonewt.
"Kraelch!" Utama curses, but quickly returns to the task at hand.
For several seconds Irigaal explodes into a maelstrom of fire and smoke. Zulquerzarhen is lost within the lethal firestorm, and any normal human would have been utterly consumed. However, when the flames die down the Emperor continues to stand transfixed. It appears that the wielder of Irigaal is granted immunity to fire.
Irigaal relents its feckless assault, and to Sangraal's eyes it almost seems as if the demonic scepter pauses to think. Then, out of thin air, a hemisphere of dazzling orange light coalesces in the center of the main hall. The swirling vortex of light and flame appears right where Madragar had been standing a moment before he began to retreat toward the Experiment room.
Neither Sangraal nor the wizard can tell what Irigaal has in store for them, but both know a summoning circle when they see one.
Map.
[Round five. Go.]
"Protect Madragar. " Sangraal calls out to Draxim as he moves to intercede between the summoning circle and Madragar.
"Madragar back up to the doorway."
[OOC: Sangraal moves 4 S and holds his attack. He will not bump or jostle Madragar but hopes he moves becuase what ever comes through the gate will be able to get at Madragar if he stays where he is.]
Re: Burnination.
Draxim looks at the rubble in front of him to plot the best course to the wizard's side.
"We have to protect the ancient emprorer from whatever pops out as well."
[move 4 NW if I can do it with one move action, or 2W 1NW 1W if not. Ready action to attack whatever comes into range.]
Re: Burnination.
"By the horns of Urox!" Although the young Khelzhad is in awe of the magical whirlwind, the Captain's orders spur him into action.
Khelzhad runs out [8 E if he can slide around the door and rubble that partially share the squares] and takes a knee behind the rubble, crossbow aimed at the vortex.
[Yea, you can do that. I'm pretty lenient when it comes to movement. The maps are really approximations. -GM]
