Re: No way out....
Janes and Madragar move away from the battle line, while Ulwe cools his heels in the second rank.
The summoning circle fades into obscurity and in its place a mass of black stone appears. Standing nearly ten feet high, the bizarre monument of basalt and obsidian remains motionless. It appears articulated, like a pile of armor chiselled by a sculptor that left his creation unfinished. Dark wisps of soot curl upward from the joints of the stone, though the source of the smoke isn't clear.
There the thing sits, ominous in its silence, but its mere presence sends the remaining snake-man into a fit of hissing and nervous agitation. The creature moves swiftly away from the monument, and takes cover behind a pile of burning rubble in the northwestern portion of the chamber.
Suddenly the firestorm vanishes, revealing the mesmerized form of Zulquerzarhen, still staring placidly at the lights that surround his head.

Re: No way out....
"Holy...let's get that door closed." suggests Draxim. He does his best to usher everyone into the room with the apparatus and get the door closed. If he has time he loads his crossbow and prepares to fire on whatever might come through the door.

Re: No way out....
[is there any kind of bolting mechanism on the inside of the experiment room door? Also what are the tables and padastal made of - all wood?]
[There was a bolt but the iron door is so mangled that it's practically useless. The tables are made of wood, the pedestal of stone. -GM]

"Utama," the sun priest says worriedly "hurry.....".
The last word trailing off as the snake man scurries for cover.

Re: No way out....
Ulwe fishes out his last remaining scroll. He speaks rapidly and curtly: "Theony is hurt. I can heal her. She is without peer in battle. Yet friends and foes are not as they seem."
He looks for a consensus before acting.

Re: No way out....
Janes has figured out that the best thing he do for these heros is hold the gear. Seeing that Atan is tempted to go out and get the javelins Janes decides to beat him to the punch.
[ Run out and grab the javelins and if possible try to run back in, but drops his satchel to the ground first in case someone needs the last healing potion ]

Re: No way out....
Seeing the comotion, Pogar will try to stay out of the way. He will help try to close the doors and secure them as best as possible. He will look around for anything that might secure the door [do the doors swing in or out, or slide across....]
Once the door is secure, Pogar will drop to a defensive stance, off to the side of the door, ready for anything that comes through.

Re: No way out....
Racing through piles of burning debris, Janes grabs both javelins and makes it safely back through the mangled iron doors.
[The doors open inward.]
Pogar puts his weight against the right-hand side of the portal and pushes the massive iron door shut. He gives the locking bar a tentative shove but it is hopelessly ruined.

Math time!
[Ok, let's see.
Granite is 170 pounds per cubic foot. The hexahedron consists of six isoceles triangles, 7' wide at the base, 5' high, or twelve right trangles 3.5' wide and 5' high.
((3.5 * 5)/2) * 12 = 105 square feet
The pedestal is about a foot high, so the total volume is 105 cubic feet, or 17,850 pounds (just shy of 9 tons).]
Khelzhad boldly pushes against the block of granite, but only strains his muscles and makes his face red with exertion.

Since there seems to be no objections, Ulwe moves to Theony's side. He hesitates again, wanting to be sure of her. He pulls the daggers out of her, but waits to heal her.

Re: Math time!
[Go out on a limb and you may lose one.]
As Ulwe crosses the room to reach Theony he notices that Utama has risen from his work and seems to be studying the situation. Pogar and Draxim hurriedly closing the door, Khelzhad trying to move a nine ton block of granite, Madragar deep in concentration and Sangraal with a worried look quite uncharacteristic of the priest... the dragonewt takes it all in.
Plucking a bronze medallion from a chain around his waist, Utama utters a brief incantation. The mangled iron doors glow briefly, their ragged outlines shining with a white light.
"The door is sealed," the dragonewt states flatly to no one in particular. Then, turning to Ulwe, "the warrior woman should be revived. She must give her blood willingly to the Orb for it to have any effect on the Shadow of Fire."
Pausing, the tall reptilian creature regards the apparatus.
"We will be fortunate if the damage to the apparatus is not too great."

Re: Math time!
Utama returns Draxim's stare. The dragonewt's claws rake the air by its hips for a few seconds, which could be a gesture of contemplation, or perhaps irritation. Finally his face breaks into a wry smile - or snarl.
"A drop, maybe more."

Re: Math time!
"Well just be careful, she's been through enough today." -Draxim's way of backing down. He sets about barracaiding the doors as insurance with anything non-critical and moveable that he can find. He secures whatever he can with the use of a grappling hook, 50' of rope, an iron spike, and his hammer, which he apparently carries with him at all times now.
