Re: Diplomacy with Theony
Khelzhad looks plaintively at Atan for direction, unsure what one small Ghuraskalli can do against the wrath of the Shadow.

Ulwe stands near Sangraal, behind Theony. He is watchful for any sign of betrayal by posession. Mindful not to appear threataning, he does however stand far enough away to use his spear.

"Utama are you sure the doors are sealed against THAT?" Draxim continues trying to shore up the barriacade as best he can. If he is in postion, and there is enough of a crack, he will take a pot shot with the crossbow.

Re: Diplomacy with Theony
Utama doesn't respond, but Draxim can see that the pace at which the dragonewt is working appears to have increased dramatically.

The cadence and tone of Theony's whispers sound to Sangraal like she is praying.

Re: Diplomacy with Theony
[Blade sharp is out :eek ]

Atan walks over to Theony, softly he puts a hand on her shoulder to get her attention. With a gaze of intensity he stares into her eyes as he increases his grip until she looks at him.

"Theony. You are the warchief of the Hladra. Your people need your help to banish Irigaal."

Releasing his hand from her shoulder he calls back to the party, "Form a line, back from the door." The look on his face is determined.

"We will do what we can to buy Utama time."

[Atan will position himself directly between Utama and the doors but far enough away so that if the doors come off their hinges the don't flatten him. Javelin ready to throw as soon as the creature appears +7/1d6+2]

Sangraal tosses a elmost empty bladesharp oilskin to Atan.

"You can make better use of this then I can." he says as he hefts his flail to his shoulder.

[OOC: Sangraal gives atan a dose of bladesharp.]

This may sting a little.
Janes, standing watch over the kneeling form of Theony, is suddenly jerked backward off his feet, a strong hand behind him grabbing a fistful of chainmail hauberk. When the young man wheels around, one hand outstretched to break his fall, Utama shoves a gleaming steel rod in his palm. Janes, off-balance and not a little surprised at the ease with which he was thrown around by the lithe creature, stares into the yellow eyes of the dragonewt.

"Hold this and don't let go until I say," Utama commands. "Release it and you could be disintegrated."

Suddenly sweating, Janes' eyes open wide as motes of orange electricity dance along a length of wire attached to the pedestal below the Illuminating Orb, up the steel rod, and into his hand. The sensation is both curious and increasingly painful.

Then, stepping to a spot beside Ulwe and gazing down on Theony in prayer, the dragonewt intones "young one, I must insist... blood, on the stone beneath the Orb. Please."

BOOM! Another charge against the door nearly knocks Draxim over as the barricade ripples outward. BOOM! KRAAACK! A flash of light surrounds the portal for a moment, then fades into nothingness. Utama's spell is broken.

With one hand, basalt fingers wreathed in fire, the juggernaut grasps the corner of one door and slowly bends the iron sheet inward with the sound of screeching terror.

Re: This may sting a little.
Backlit by the fires Atan easily catchs the thrown bag of bladesharp, cheering up significantly as he kneels. Setting down the javelin he quickly applies the oil to his sword. When done, he grabs the javelin and stands back up.

Looking over at Janes who is now nothing more then a living conductor, "Janes toss down your short sword, javelin and the backpack with healing potions so that others may use them."

"If this creature is similar to the others then we will need enchanted weapons to hurt it. Those without use the javelin or short sword."

[Ready to throw javelin as soon as it is with in 30 feet +7/1d6+2 (plus magic)]

Re: This may sting a little.
Draxim fires his crossbow at the thing then gets his axe and puts bladesharp oil on it [out now] He also moves to one side of the door (SE), so that when it comes toppling inward, he is out of the way of flying debris.

Re: This may sting a little.
Draxim's crossbow bolt zips through one of the narrow gaps along the lintel of the iron door, but ricochets off the surface of the stone monster without effect.

Inch by inch, then foot by foot, the portal is peeled away until the upper torso of the massive, fiery statue is revealed. Its featureless head, twin eyes blazing, pushes through the gap until it looms near the high ceiling of the corridor. Then, inexplicably, it stops.

From out in the main hall, the voice of Zulquerzarhen is heard, though the hollow corruption behind it fools no one. It is Irigaal.

"Face me, last blood of Hralma. Take up the standard of your filthy horse-tribe and stand shielded with naked blade bared. If you are a true child of the War God, then face me as the War God would and glorify us both with the honor of battle."

Theony ceases her prayers, then slowly rises and matches the stare of the black vessel of Shadow. It is unclear what she intends to do.

Not ten feet away, sweat flowing in shining rivulets down his face, Janes begins to shake as the orange lightning dances along his forearm.

Utama looks about, seemingly nervous for the first time. Turning to Ulwe who stands beside him, the dragonewt hisses "we are running out of time."

[Does the statue still seem imbued with a firey center ? eyes still glowing? cracks illuminated? is it still animated? Does Chandr'as corpse have a weapon? Does Theony have a weapon?]

"Is it safe to take Jane's sword?" Ulwe asks Utama.

Re: This may sting a little.
[Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. A broken sword. A dagger that was recently pinning her to a table... she's quite fond of it.]

Utama pauses, turns away as if to contemplate the situation, turns back to Ulwe, then shrugs - perhaps answering both Madragar and the elf.

"We don't have time for a duel."

One last try....
Sangraal backing away from the door tries one last attempt to break through to Theony.

"Scion if you wish to defeat Irigaal then please do as Utama has instructed. To fight Irigaal on his terms is exactly what the demon wants. Irigaal is playing on your own heritage. He wishes for you to face him for that is the only way to ensure that he will never be trapped again, you are the last of your line, the last hope. If you die so does your people for Irigaal will offer no quarter. He will be free."

Re: This may sting a little.
The voice of chaos grates on Khelzhad's soul, and out of fear and awe starts to chant a repetitive Ghuraskalli prayer of protection, his voice gaining ever more depth with each verse:

"Will of stone, strength of water
see me through this day
"

Re: One last try....
Theony seems dazed, her brief moments of lucidity revealing the intensity of her hatred for the demon that challenges her. Eyes smouldering, the wounded shieldmaiden raises her dagger and looks as if she will advance on the huge stone monster alone. Yet Theony does not move, the priest's words finally breaking through her fatigue and despair.

"The Storm Bull freed Yelm from the earth," she whispers, her eyes meeting Sangraal's. "But it was the Sun God that carried them back to the surface again."

Quickly Theony cuts a gash across her palm, and holds up the bleeding hand to the towering Shadow.

"You have come for war, Irigaal, and know no fear. But Urox is the master of war, and knows no equal!"

Before she can take a single step toward the pedestal beneath the Illuminating Orb the iron portal expodes inward. Tables and chairs tumble into the chamber, scattering the still burning pool of fire with the flying debris. A chunk of lumber spirals into the apparatus and strikes Janes who cries out - not in pain, but at the possibility of dropping the electrified steel rod.

Atan hurls his javelin, the missile striking the hulking monster square in the chest. The weapon seemed eager to bite into the fiery creature, drawn perhaps to the intensity of its corruption, and actually slows down Irigaal's advance - much to Atan's surprise.

With three thunderous strides the flaming statue is through the portal and bearing down on Theony. Sangraal is the only one standing between Irigaal and his prey. With one mighty backhand, fire pouring from within its supernatural grasp, Irigaal smashes into Sangraal. The priest, airborne and unconscious, sails past Ulwe and tumbles over like a stone rolling down a hillside. Sangraal comes to rest in the middle of the floor and does not move.

Re: One last try....
Draxim throws his flask of holy water on the creature. He then slips in behind the monstrosity.

[ move N NW to be a threat for those who want to try a flank]

After moving, he shouts "I will represent the War God! Back to the slag pit you fiery monstrosity!"
