Re: One last try....
Khelzhad will put his life in front of Theony's. Maintaining his Countersong, he moves 2 SW, 1 S and raises his shield against Irigaal with the grim hope of being able to gain just a little more time.

Re: One last try....
Draxim's holy water splashes against the back of the towering monster without much effect. It does, however, attract the flaming statue's momentary attention. Draxim advances quickly to stand eye to shin with Irigaal, but makes himself a juicy target for the Shadow's considerable reach. The dwarf tumbles, dodges, summons the knowledge gained during his people's long history of doing battle with creatures much bigger than they, and uses every trick he knows to avoid the crushing fist of the monster.
Yet, it is all to no avail. One massive stone foot goes up then swiftly down onto Draxim's shoulder. The dwarf is pitched to the ground then utters a guttural "aaaarg!" before rolling over to lay flat on his back. The panorama of the Illuminating Orb and the pitiless eyes of the basalt beast towering high above him is the last thing he sees before passing out.
Draxim's manuever does, however, give Khelzhad a chance to get between the monster and Theony, though the bard has little hope that his shield will provide him much protection.

Final curtain
Ulwe watches his ally, and yes, friend go sailing off, most likely crushed to death. Seeing the juggernaught onslaught bearing down upon Theony, seemingly the only hope left for all of Moagara, Ulwe quakes with fear.
With nervous steps he interposes himself between Theony, Utama and the hulking construct of Basalt and fire.
Summoning his final reserve of courage, Ulwe stabs out at the shell of Irigaal.

Re: Final curtain
The rampaging statue spins and flails about with a swiftness few elves could boast of, let alone something so huge and ponderous as a twenty foot pile of stone. The flames gushing from its ankles and knees wash over Khelzhad's shield and into Ulwe's face as he advances. Momentarily blinded by heat and smoke, the Aerendalen stabs with all his might and, miraculously, connects. Ulwe's heart fills with hope and pride as the wicked spear of black iron knocks a chunk, albeit a small chunk, of concentrated evil from the surface of the creature's thigh.

Crescendo of Doom
[NW, right? I'm going to buy each of you a compass.]
Atan, abandoning the safety and comfort of his archery, wades into battle alongside his companions. His blade glowing crimson with the potency of the bladesharp oil, the elf slashes up into the monster's abdomen, showing himself with burning ash and dust.
Standing over Draxim's body, Pogar hacks at Irigaal with characteristic fury. One mighty swing passes right through the statue's flaming knee, but his counterstroke connects - though his mundane axe does nothing to the basalt juggernaut.
Theony bounds past Utama and slams her hand against the surface of the pedestal.
"Janes!" the dragonewt shouts, and the young human releases his grip, teeth chattering and muscles shuddering under the intensity of the energy that coursed through him.
A column of green fire erupts from within the pedestal, blasting through Theony's hand to surround the Illuminating Orb high above. The shieldmaiden screams in agony and tumbles backward, her hand a smoking ruin. Orange lightning swiftly arcs along the length of the apparatus and then up the massive iron buttresses that line the interior of the chamber. Soon, the entire structure of the Fortress has become a part of the machine.
Utama swiftly plucks a shining gold medallion from his belt and with a curt phrase and subtle gesticulation summons the power contained within it. In a flash of blue light the dragonewt vanishes.
Irigaal continues his onslaught. With one sweep of his hand, Atan and Khelzhad go flying. Tumbling head over heels, elf and dwarf plough through the pool of flaming liquid and out the other side. Atan manages to roll with the hit and get to his feet again, though he is barely standing. Khelzhad rolls to a stop and does not move.
Not pausing to admire its handiwork, Irigaal stoops down and grabs Ulwe in one massive hand. The fire billowing from the monsters grip sears his flesh. Blood squirts out of the elf's mouth as his ribs are pushed inward, piercing his internal organs and forcing a wave of blood up through his throat. Ulwe howls in pain but somehow remains conscious, his spear hanging limply in his grasp.
Map updated.

Re: Well that ain't good...
[I suppose an opposed strength check to break the beast's grasp would be out of the question... Would escape artist be more appropriate? Higher Dex better chance? Basically Ulwe tries to wriggle free as best he can in the face of such an overwhelming adversary. ]
Ulwe drops the spear of Kurigalos, as he tries to escape the stony embrace of Irigaal's crushing hand.

Re: Well that ain't good...
[This computer is such a piece of crap, been waiting for 5 minutes for the map to come up, Yea, good thing I have DSL...]
However, assuming Pogar is behind, or rather near the creature, Pogar will try to manover himself between the legs and under the creature and will give the monster all he's got (using 2 hands and I believe the blade should be still under the effects of Blade sharp)

Re: Ah, rest at last.
Looking up at the ceiling, "Aye, Mad. Just had the wind knocked out of me that's all."
Atan stumbles wearily to his feet. Blood oozes from his nose and ears, the stab wound on his thigh re-opened, his clothes burned and tattered.
Staggering forward he grabs the fallen Kelzhad by his collar and begins to drag him towards the door.
"Pogar grab Draxim." he says, pointing with his sword at the other fallen dwarf.
[Atan moves 1E, 1NE, 3E. He grabs Kelzhad after his first 10 feet of movment and drags him another 15 feet staying clear of the flames. Rudimentary heal check by just looking at him to see if Kelzhad is even alive (i.e. has his head been knocked off or in, is he split in two, etc..]

Illumination.
The black iron spear falls from Ulwe's grasp to clatter on the flagstones below. The elf can only writhe and struggle like a worm on a hook, for the fullness of his strength is not enough to break the giant's grip.
Pogar swings with all his might but again his mundane blade bounces harmlessly off the enchanted stone limbs of the creature.
Atan cannot tell at first whether Khelzhad is alive. He certainly looks badly wounded, but not obviously dead. He does his best to drag the limp dwarf along, avoiding the rampaging juggernaut as it begins to crush the life out of Ulwe. The Aerendalen can only look on helplessly, gazing down from his fiery perch at the retreat of his companions. The certainty of his doom snuffs out the last light of hope in Ulwe's heart and he descends into dark unconsciousness.
Janes leaves Theony's side and bounds across the chamber to reach Sangraal, who is out cold.
Irigaal raises up Ulwe's body in triumph, revelling in a lust for slaughter and the promise of more carnage to come. The Illuminating Orb disappears behind the column of green fire that geysers up from the pedestal, orange arcs of electricity rippling up the skeleton of the Fortress itself. Suddenly the full attention of the black stone giant is seized by the brilliant shining orb before it. Ulwe's body is quickly cast to the ground and with arms outstretched Irigaal charges into the apparatus.
Theony hurls herself to one side to avoid the crushing feet of the monster, and bathed in the supernatural flame the basalt statue closes its hands around the Illuminating Orb. In a retina-burning instant a flash of orange brilliance rushes through the apparatus, up the long steel spine that supports the glowing sphere, and into the Illuminating Orb. The column of green flame suddenly ceases its flow and the world itself comes to a halt - poised between heartbeats.
The Orb explodes. Green fire rushes outward in an irresistable tide of destruction. The fiery statue is the first to be consumed, its feeble flames extinguished and its limbs bursting into ash. The massive torso of the beast tumbles backward and, striking the stone floor, shatters into a thousand burning chunks. Theony screams as the pitiless flames wash over her, searing her flesh. In an eyeblink she is lost.
Janes, huddled over his pack in a vain attempt to provide healing to Sangraal, does not see his doom and both he and the priest are consumed by the blast. Sangraal regains consciousness only long enough to feel the flames caress his skin and then begin to pull the flesh from his bones.
Ulwe is mercifully unaware of his fate.
Pogar drops his axe and grabs Draxim, though he takes only a step or two before being caught by the rushing wall of fire. The dwarves, as well as Atan and Khelzhad nearby, barely reach the edge of the corridor before they too sing a chorus of agony together, their backs ripped open and their bones gleaming in the viridian bonfire.
Green flame gushes through the main doors of the fortress, billowing out into the cave through each arrowslit and embrasure. The thunderous explosion echoes through the subterranean vault, shaking the roots of the mountain itself. The fires retreat quickly, and soon there is no light within the Cairnhollow to illuminate the long passages and deep caverns of the place. Inexorably, and inevitably, everything goes black.
