Re: Pants up?
[Endurance is not on Sangraal's list of spells that he can cast, so the scroll is useless to him. Likewise, Magic Missile, True Strike and Shocking Grasp are not on Khelzhad's list.

Endurance is, however, on Ulwe's list.]

Utama, scanning the surrounding rubble and burning debris, answers questions as best he can.

Khelzhad: "Ancient-one, can this the fiery spirit take over a person's body as Urukavas did?"

Utama shrugs. "Maybe, I don't know."

"Utama" Sangraal asks " You are a mage of some power. Is there not an enchantment you could cast on this instrument of Yelms might, that would help to defeat the demons very nature."

"That is beyond my power at this time, Sangraal, and I am no mage."

Atan: "Utama, can it be done or is this the risk we must accept to destroy him?"

"I must get to the apparatus, of that I am sure, so the doors must open for us to have any chance."

Draxim: "Can you do that trick with the silver, so that he won't get out when we go in?"

"The Illuminating Orb will do that for us, and much more."

Ulwe calls on the vitality and potent breath of the Wind God and feels considerably more vigorous and healthy than a moment before.

[As far as I can tell no one has moved away from their position on the map. True?]

Re: Pants up?
[are the piles of debris large enough to use as cover?]

[Possibly. There are overturned tables and chunks of masonry that look like someone knocked them out of the walls of the Fortress itself. -GM]

Khelzhad will take a knee in a position behind some of the rubble where he can still have a line of fire at the door.

"Ulwe since I can not cast Endurence on myself and Draxim will be at the very forefront. Please cast that endurence spell on him. Let me use the javelins as well Ulwe so I can be of use in the coming fight."

"Also since you cast endurence on yourself and you have the spear. I should take all the scroll sand run around healing becuase I fear I will be of little use, once the Javelins are gone."

[OOC: Sangraal takes the Javelins and scrolls from Ulwe if he offers them up.

Sangraal has not moved.]]

Re: Pants up?
Ulwe takes the scroll back from Sangraal. He then uses it on Draxim. (Casts Endurance on Draxim)
He shrugs off his pack, and hands it over to Sangraal.
"Be careful, there are foul and Blasphemous tokens within."

He is reluctant to hand over his javelin however.

"Sangraal, though you are skilled with that flail, you and I both know your hand-eye coordination is not as good as mine or my kin Finith. We have better chances to hit with the javelins. Fear not that you will be of no use in this fight Sangraal. I know with certainty you will be as you always have been: a mighty champion of the Light."
With deep respect, Ulwe makes the sign of the Lumina and salutes Sangraal with his spear.

[If the doors are to be opened, Ulwe will take cover as well. ]

[Atan has the second Javelin. ]

Re: Pants up?
From somewhere deep within the Fortress, echoing mainly up through the descending stairwell to the west but also radiating through the floor itself, a great hissing can be heard. It is a long, angry and feral sound like that of a serpent ready to strike.

Janes looks first horrified and then incredibly pissed off. He freezes in place and starts scanning the area looking and listening for all that he's worth while loading his shiny new crossbow.

[ So Draxim can figure out how to open doors from 60 feet away? That's awesome! ]

" Illuminatin' Orb? You talkin' about that big glass thing in there? What makes you think its still in one piece if the door looks like this?"

Draxim cautioiusly makes his way to the door into the lab weary of any trickery, traps, or damage that may cause things to be less stable then they seem. He then continues his investigations into possible entry.

Alrighty then. Madragar does not transfer the above scrolls to Khelzad, but instead gives him one each of hypnotic pattern and phantom steed.

Mike, make sure to get 'em on your possessions list.

[No, he can't, but you didn't say that Draxim moved to the door, only that he was investigating it. It may seem trivial, but it is a source of constant frustration for your GM that folks aren't more specific about what their characters do. It just generally makes it more difficult to run this campaign.]

Draxim steps cautiously across the rubble strewn chamber. However, being wary would have served the dwarf better than being weary. Draxim is very mindful of what may be lurking in the rubble, but not so much what may be lurking above.

The keen-eyed dwarf gets within fifteen feet of the crumpled iron doors when a torrent of liquid fire pours down on him. Only his reflexes save him from a fiery death as he throws himself to the side, his left arm ablaze.

Khelzhad and Ulwe, who crept forward to take cover behind some rubble, look upward to see a disgusting mass of quivering muscle - a grotesque amalgam of limbs, torsos and other human body parts - clinging to the ceiling. Its immense mouth, formed of a dozen jawbones, is clearly the source of the immolating vomit. Eyeless and quivering, the monstrosity croaks in defiance at the gawking warriors some thirty feet below it.

Map.

"Yelms teeth!", Atan reflexivly jumps when the gout of flaming vomit nearly drops upon Draxim.

Moving cautiously to the left he gets near the intersection of the two overhangs. Using the overhang as cover he leans out until he can see the beast.

Re: no pants, just shoes....wingtips
The thing is the size of an oxcart so Atan has no problem putting an arrow in the thing. The missile buries itself in the sticky, blood-soaked flesh up to the fletching, but the creature seems to ignore it.

A chorus of not so distant screams emerge from the depths of the Fortress. Whether they are howls of rage or screams of agony is not quite clear.

Khelzhad leans up and without hesitation releases a bolt at the monstrosity. Then he prudently moves 3 SE, under the cover of the overhang.

Re: no pants, just shoes....wingtips
Ulwe looks up in alarm to see the source of the immolating excrement.
This long day has seen much for the Sea-Elf so far from his home, and the hideous unnatural beast on the ceiling nearly snaps his mind. It is only the immensity of the task at hand which keeps him from being completely unhinged.
"Draxim!" He shouts reflexively, as the Dwarf dodges out of the worst of the firey vomit. Seeing his friend hurt, Ulwe's fear and shock are quickly transformed into a violent anger bordering on uncontrolled rage.

He forms no words to convey his disgust and hatred. Only a furious shout is heard as Ulwe hurls the enchanted javelin up at the attacker.

After he hurls the javelin, Ulwe readies his spear.

Re: no pants, just shoes....wingtips
Looking about Pogar decides that his short stature would not be too benificial against a creature that can fly. Upon hearing the thundering hiss and the screams, Pogars mind read them as fear and agony. Looking about, Pogar notices stairs heading both, to his left and to his right. It appears to Pogar that the stairs go up on the left side, so he decides to go right. "Woulda taken me too long anyways" he thinks to himself. Also reminding himself of the bladesharp, he pops the cork off and polishes his axe. After tossing the empy vial, Pogar is ready, touching the axe head to the steel, making a loud clang.

Calling to Madragar, "Im going right, and down into the fortress. I aim to end this quickly". He nods to Madragar and moves off to the right, heading for the stairs.

Re: To battle!
"Sweet gods, it'll be a shooting gallery," opines Madragar.

Then, as if to get a head start on his prediction, he backs up to a wall and fires his trusty light crossbow at the gibbering monstrosity on the ceiling.

"Stand away!" he warns anyone foolish enough to still be standing beneath it.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VI
[Yes, I've added the appropriate Con bonuses to Draxim and Ulwe which also increased their HPs.]

Acting on reflex, Khelzhad raises his crossbow and fires. The mass of quivering, fire-belching flesh is an easy target and his bolt strikes the thing in one of its many torsos.

Ulwe hefts the length of naked runemetal, covered with inscriptions he cannot decipher, and hurls it at the beast. The javelin flies straight into the heart of the creature, piercing through walls of tissue and organs before terminating its trajectory on the hard stone ceiling. A shower of blood drenches Draxim who is still struggling with his flaming arm below.
