Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
A dazed and battered Madragar shakes his blurry vision and sees before him a vision of armored purity, bathed in holy light. Dragging himself into a sitting position and blinking hard, he groggily asks "Hralma?"

Moments later, he realizes that it is Sangraal.

"Oh," he says, succinctly, a mixture of disappointment and relief.

Then, horror dawning, "The others? Are they...? Atan? Draxim? Kyethe?"

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Within the glow of Sangraal's light, Madragar can see that he is in the Experiment room with the shattered remains of the apparatus scattered about him. Other than Sangraal his companions are gone.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Sangraal shakes his head, " You are the first I have found" as he looks around the destroyed room.

"Lets go outside the tower, maybe we'll find some answers out there."

[OOC: Sangraal moves outside the experiement room.]

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Madragar struggles to his feet and visually verifies that none of his companions remain in sight. He 'feels' for Kyethe.

Then he follows Sangraal, his ears still ringing.

[Uh, is the flesh still mostly on our bones?]

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Madragar gives himself the once-over and finds that his flesh is entirely on his bones. In fact, he isn't injured at all, even from the blast of dark energy Zulquerzarhen hit him with.

Kyethe, however, is nowhere to be found and is not present in Madragar's mind the way the raven normally is.

Madragar and Sangraal leave the Fortress and find the large cavern outside pitch black. Together in the sphere of light emanating from Sangraal's flail they walk along the long stone bridge until they finally reach the far side.

There they find an iron stake hammered into the stone floor of the cavern, and on the stake is tied a leather scroll case. It is positioned such that anyone entering or leaving the Fortress would surely come across it.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Never the patient one in the group, Madragar snatches up the case, opens it and reads whatever is inside.

"An illusion?" he ponders, partly to himself and partly to Sangraal. "That was real, was it not? Otherwise, why should only you and I be here?"

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
[And the Bad Guys take note: just send Madragar a scroll covered in Explosive Runes in the mail.]

The scroll contains two pieces of parchment, one tucked within the other and tied with a thin ribbon. Unrolling the first, Madragar reads:

We waited, but the snows are coming and there are many hungry mouths to feed. I will keep your treasure safe until we meet again.

I've felt those flames before, and visited the place from which you have come. If you can read the second scroll then THEY have no more power over you.

I pray that you will each return to us safely.

Naturally, Madragar opens the second scroll. Together he and Sangraal read it.

The Hyrgurae did not flee before the horse tribes. They are still here.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Sangraal ponders the writings but garners little cheer from them.

"The Hyrgurae? How can that be?"

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Everyone in Moagara knows that the Hyrgurae were the people that lived in Moagara before the horse tribes came out of the west and drove them out. Those horse tribes became the Moagarans, and the Hyrgurae fled before them, taking ship and sailing across the sea to the north. At least, that's what everyone believes happened.

[Yes, he does.]

While they ponder the meaning behind Theony's note, Madragar notices a flicker of white light within the Fortress.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
"Perhaps they went underground. I am uncertain as to why Theony would tell us this. It may be a riddle. Either way, I am more eager to catch up with Wulfwaru's granddaughter and find what she knows of our companions."

"Do you see that?" he asks rhetorically, pointing towards the light. "We need to go see if they are still within. We may never be able to get back here."

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Quickly crossing back over the chasm, Madragar and Sangraal enter to the Fortress and spot Ulwe, bathed in a sphere of light of his own creation, looking around the Experiment room with a confused look on his face.

Ulwe turns and notices Sangraal and Madragar as well.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
"Brothers!" Ulwe excliams, joyous at the sight of his friends alive.

"I thought all had perished, save me. I am glad to be wrong. The others?"

He asks, embracing both the mage and priest in great hugs, and as is the custom of the Hythriadi, a kiss upon their foreheads.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Bemused by the buss, but happy to find Ulwe alive, the tall mage actually smiles for a moment.

"Unknown. We have found a message purporting to be from Theony." He shows the elf the note.

"If she is alive, there is hope for all of us. I find myself none the worse for having been through the apocalypse. And I saw you die, Ulwe. Horribly. You were in the demon's claws when...it...happened. If you have survived, I surmise that our brothers have, as well."

"How...will take me a little longer."

"We must search for them throughout the Fortress. My Kyethe is also gone," his smile fades, "and I cannot feel his presence."

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Ulwe's face grows serious. "I think I did perish Madragar. I think we all did." His voice trails off. He appears lost in thought and remains silent for a time before continuing. "I was lost, out of time and space. I have dim recollections, which even as I speak to you are fleeting and rare. It is impossible to describe. Yet suddenly I became aware of being here in this fortress and alone in the dark. Soon after you two came along." His voice again seems distracted and for another spell Ulwe seems lost in his reverie.

Soon though, his face is bisected by a huge grin as he claps the bald mage on his shoulder. "We are alive now. For that I am joyous. The lights of our enemies are extinguished, and If we three are here, the others, Orlanth willing, will not be far."

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
Unschooled in theology, Madragar simply nods and accepts the priest's version of events. Whenever confronted with an unknown phenomenon, Edrigan would tell him, you must be patient and observe. All truth is written in the universe for him who listens and watches carefully.

Thinking about his own experience, Madragar nods to Ulwe's words. "Let us find them, then, before the dwarves get them killed a second time."

"I returned to the World here, in the experiment room. Perhaps the others will as well." Muses Ulwe.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
As Ulwe and Madragar chat a dim, but clearly visible, green flash of light nearby signals the sudden arrival of Atan. The elf appears out of thin air near the corridor leading from the Experiment room to main hall of the fortress. Atan is unconscious.

Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
[Any way for Madragar to distinguish whether this is arcane or divine magic?]
