Re: The Cairnhollow, Part VII
As Sangraal takes the javelins, it is obvious to all the elf relinquishes his claim with reluctance. The hard looks of the group quickly dispell the strange avarice in Ulwe's eyes. He takes a breath and makes an effort not to stare at the two javelins strapped to Sangraal's pack.
"Well then, to Dobrug." he mutters distractedly.

Madragar also changes into his winter clothes, which seem inexplicably clean, though as worn and frayed as everyone else's. The wizard has also gotten a fresh shave and bath somewhere along the way.
"Good clean air," he says, breathing deep. "And winter setting into the mountains. They'll be tapping the best of the autumn kegs and serving a fine halibut stew in Dobrug-town," he says. "'Tis a fine place to winter for those with a bit of coin in their pockets. Will you join me, gentlemen?"
He sets off towards the village with purposeful strides.

Take a picture it will last longer
" I saw that same look in an elf we once knew." Sangraal states to the oogling elven priest as he pats his two new javelins lovingly. "He died under Old Kurlew. Funny thing is his name was Meneloss."

Re: Take a picture it will last longer
"I heard his name many times. I was not thinking." He says looking towards Draxim. At [what Ulwe perceives to be] Sangraal's uncharacteristicly gloating behavior, Ulwe casts the sun-priest a dark look but he holds his tongue.
"Aye Dobrug, I have much to say with the High Priest of the Locamyrida." returning Madragar's remark. Then Ulwe walks alongside Khelzhad prodding the bard for a song.
"Song-wise, a marching tune if you will. I wish to sing to the heavans."

"Out with it Ulwe" Sangraal commands suddenly. "What ill wind do you wish to speak? We are in the light but two minutes and you look as if cheated of an honest wage."

Re: Take a picture it will last longer
"Aye, Mad. A mug of ale would do right by me, but don't get your hopes up just yet. We got a weeks march if a day to Dobrug, and in the Nral Valley the winter can turn rough quick. And don't forget we have to pass close to Thaedrun with those rotten smelling giant plants to get to the road. But that is a few days yet. Let us go on down to Hryl and see if we can find Theony. At the least we can stay there the night."
But his forward momentum is checked by the bellicose voice of Sangraal. Turning his head he sees the Yelm cleric and Ulwe chomping over the javelins. "Fugg, not already.", he mummbles to himself.
[what time of day is it?]

Re: Take a picture it will last longer
Ulwe shakes his head disaprovingly but does not respond to Sangraal.
He turns back to the bard and pats him on the back.
"Lets hear some thing nice, to celebrate our triumph, or at least something merry to lighten our hearts. That is, if you wish Song-wise."

"Very well" Sangraal says to the silent Ulwe " I will consider this matter closed. You should mind your eyes for they are the well to your soul. They speak a thousand words without a single utterence."

At Sangraal's latest provocation, Ulwe turns and gives the Sun-priest a hard look. He still holds his tongue but shakes his head again before turning back to Khelzhad.

I'm gonna knock their heads together like Moe.
"Gentlemen, gentlemen," admonishes Madragar. "Put up the weapons of your words, I pray you. Nothing is decided yet. We know little of those prizes, and therefore I have a proposal to make."
"My master taught me well of the secrets of Runemetal. When we are encamped for the evening, you should give over to my care all the items we took from the depths, including both that spear and those javelins."
"I will work upon them a powerful ritual that may yield up to me yet more secrets locked within. Then shall we all, who bore the burden of the Cairnhollow, settle in reasoned tones the manner of their disbursal."

Re: Take a picture it will last longer
Pogars dismal look on things lightens up a bit when the mention of ale reaches his dirty and clogged ears. "Ale?" is all that Pogar says with a beaming smile.
The smile is so happy that one may think that Pogar would even dress up and bathe, just for such an occasion.

Road Trip
After Khelzhad recovers from the initial shock of being without a roof, he is only too happy to comply with Ulwe's request. Although he doesn't really have any "road" songs, he thinks this colloquial work song of his own Tunneler Clan is suitable to the occasion, which he sings, repeatedly, until everyone has it down. The Companions merrily whistle and hum the miles away to the beat of their marching feet:
Straight the plum the line
and measure once again
Keep an eye on the ceiling
before ye say "Dig in"
Keep yer back upright
always lift with yer legs
Oh simple are the rules
that the foreman begs
Don't set your burden down
until yer've reached the drop
and never light a fire
with support beams over top
Please don't prance around
like a gurrow on the run and
if ye steal the foreman's tools
I feel sorry for ye son
Be here every day
sober and awake
and if ye feel like complaining
ye can keep it to yerself
dig deep the dwarven tunnels
and ye will earn yer pay
but don't ye cross the foreman
lest ye want to go away
[speak up if your character does not join in]

The bard seems prepared for the wallflowers and assigns Madragar the part of the Foreman, who adds "Hey ye there! Get ye back to work!" at the end of each round.

Re: Road Trip
Atan cuts a grin at Kelzhad. The bard has obviously worked at least a few taverns with raucous crowds.
"Alright Mad. I am going forward a little ways since we are singing." With that Atan quickens his pace to a light jog and moves ahead of the group.
[Scout ahead 50-75 yards.]

Re: Road Trip
The companions march resolutely northward. After a brief visit to Hryl, which is only a few hundred feet from the mouth of the Cairnhollow but also appears to have been picked clean of anything remotely valuable by the villagers, they continue on. The afternoon is pleasantly cool and the thin layer of snow causes a few slips, but doesn't slow their progress significantly.
The whole Nral river valley remains strangely silent, much as it was when the companions first entered it more than two weeks ago. It feels as if the river, the trees, and the many wild creatures that call the valley home are at last given a moment of peace after decades of strife. Chandra made it clear that she intended for her tribe, the Hladra, to resettle the valley, and it would seem that the valley now waits patiently for its people to return. Yet, whether Theony will take up her mother's challenge remains to be seen.
Three days pass. Each night Madragar descends into a deep trance for hours at a time, and each night he emerges with a few more details about the powers contained in the items the companions have collected. It isn't until the third night that his work is complete and he can finally speak with authority about the javelins, the spear, the shortsword, the arrow, the ring and the chain.

Re: Road Trip
Though the weather is chilly Sangraal enjoys the days above ground imensely. He awakes with uncanny percision just before dawn to greet Yelm in his pursuit of the darkness, the never ending hunt. As the first rays break over the valley chasing away the night, Sangraal each morning recites the sacred verses of FirstLight and remains in genuflection for some time after cessetion of prayer.
On the second night Sangraal warming himself by the fire recalls a little tidbit of knowledge that struck a cord during the battle with Irigaal that he had not time to mention for obvious reasons.
"In my studies, when the priests of the order revealed selected legends of the Shadows and the tools used by the armies of Chaos, I was shown a crude drawing. It was made by a secretive Sakastian monk that was recording the last exploits of a noted lunar hero.
The drawing appeared to be of a statue, but one that was built in segments. The figure was humanoid, and brilliantly decorated with bronze embellishments, yet reinforced with steel. The mighty construct, it was said, was a magical object used by the Shadows to grant them increased strength and resilience in battle - in effect giving the beast something to possess that was much stronger than mortal flesh. Few Shadows, it was believed, were powerful enough to create such a thing, so they are incredibly rare. However, the construct in the drawing allowed a Shadow named Ruravhael to defeat a potent band of Lunar champions several hundred years ago. The ruin caused by Ruravhael's subsequent rampage is still mourned by the Lunars in their songs and histories.
I suspects that the pile of basalt was a shell into which Irigaal had poured its essence, giving the stone itself life and who knows what other lethal powers. The thing has no name that the Brotherhood knows of, and no one in the Brotherhood had ever seen one, until now.
The battle is over now and I mention this only for the sake of clarity. I do not pretend to know or understand all that happened in the Fortress of Lead but I hope this might be of use at some future time."
