Re: Dobrug
Ruglan does a little additional investigating. His association with the town watch gives him some valuable information on the comings and going of those around the Lioness and her clan, but he is unable to penetrate the tight-nit Olmani community that probably has better insight into Yashai herself.
The watch noticed that in the weeks after her arrival Yashai purchased a significant stockpile of raw materials. In addition to common building materials used to make homes and businesses for Olmani refugees, she also acquired quantities of leather goods and iron. A cluster of armor and weapon smiths in the southwestern corner of the city works almost constantly to produce new implements of war for Yashai's kuralitai. The whole situation makes the town watch, not to mention the Council of Elders, very nervous. What is to be done, it is often asked, when the Lioness is already in your house?
Packing up their modest belongings, Pogar and Madragar disappear into the city. With Janes' help, Ruglan locates a few of the Hryl villagers that were trapped in the Fortress of Lead and only recently migrated north to Dobrug. The wizard and his bodyguard blend in with the newcomers fairly easily, and take comfort in the trust and admiration shown them by their hosts.
[For future referrence, some details on how you want to conceal your identities and location would be good. For instance, Pogar would have to somehow hide the Grinning Blade since it is a unique item and quite flashy.]
Madragar and Pogar's efforts to remain hidden are helped by the coming of winter. An almost constant rain lashes the streets of Dobrug, often laced with ice and snow. The whole town almost shuts down during this part of the year, with those who can afford it venturing out only to reach the tavern, and those less fortunate just trying to survive.
Neither Waed Daeva nor Brae the Diviner recognize the symbols on the crown. They are not magical in origin, and they are of no language known to the two learned men.

Re: Dobrug
[For the sake of a smoother flow of the game, I will go under the assumption that Khelzhad made the same suggestion as Ulwe and Pogar did keep the Sword]
Once a place to stay has been aranged, Pogar will take the sword and try to hide it near where he sleeps. When venturing out, Pogar will leave the sword behind, but will keep his battle axe with him at all times.
"Anorre" Pogar continues to use the alias for fear of spys "I was thinking of heading to the tavern to get something to eat and drink, would you like to join or would you like me to bring you something? I wont be gone long."

Re: Dobrug
Also just to speed things along, let's not play out the events of the coming weeks. Madragar spends the next 16 days tooling spells into leather scrolls and massaging his aching hands. In the evenings, he eats with Pogar and occasionally takes a stroll while wearing a heavy winter cowl that obscures his features.

Re: Dobrug
Khelzhad spends the second month exchanging information with any other bards in the town, mostly seeking knowledge and news of the surface dwelling clans in the area and telling of the stirrings of the evil Duergar and what news from the Uz has he has.
[we never did decide how much of our story should remain secret - anyone?]
Once or twice a week, he ventures out to the pubs to inform and entertain those who will listen (and pay). If walking around town appears to become dangerous, he will ask a for Companion as a guard.
Around town, the Ghuraskalli bard wears his chainmail and cap, and bears Silreik's ring and his longsword but usually leaves his shield, x-bow and scrolls back under the guard of the Companions.

One day, Madragar sends his raven familiar Kyethe to find Khelzad in some private locale. "My master has time. You have shiny coins, need scrolls. Master make. You find dwarf friend, give coins."

Re: Dobrug
Ulwe had warned against telleing anyone aout the events. He has however told the Temple Elders.
Over the next few weeks Ulwe:
Continues his Concentration training
Comissions a gold holy symbol (Budget 200 Gold) as well as a Silver Cloak Pin (Budget 50 gold)
Asks around the Temple about getting scrolls of healing spells either made or ready bought.
Goes around to the Sea-farers and asks them about the strange ship Uzla Thurla.
Ulwe also suggests that somebody who is not in training (Khelzhad Janes or Ruglan) learn Olmanni.
Delivers a sermon on the Compassion of Orlanth and asks for a few to volunteer their money and time to bring food and blankets to the destitute:
"In the time before the second Light of Yelm, mighty Orlanth took pity upon the miserable wretches dwelling in the dark. His great heart was filled with compassion for his fellow brothers, the children of Yelm. This compassion moved him to action to lead the Lightbringers and restore Yelm in the sky to warm his children again.
We must strive to incorporate all of the Godly aspects of our Lord Orlanth. We too must feel compassion for our fellow brothers and sisters. We must also be moved to action.
Brothers and Sisters, there are those in this community who have not enough to eat, and are cold at night from the rains. We must feel compassion for their suffering. We are not to judge their position for but for the grace of Orlanth there you go. Be thankful for the bounty Orlanth the Plentiful has granted you. Show your thanks by generously donating time and money to help the less fortunate. Be as Orlanth the Compassionate."
Ulwe personally donates 50 Gold and (hopefully) with some help, he rents a cart and driver to distribute as much food as he can. He asks Ruglan and his wachman friends to help keep order when the food is distributed.

Re: Dobrug
Pogar, armed with the imprint, will ask around the pub that he normally hangs out at, if anyone has seen the inscriptions. Pogar will also buy oversized clothing that are plain in color, trying to look as though he doesnt have much money.

Re: Dobrug
The icy winter wears on. Ulwe plunges back into the Locamyrida, enduring hours of training each day in order to hone his thoughts and improve his ability to focus on his prayers.
[Go ahead and make the Training roll for Ulwe.]
A 200 gold holy symbol would be much more ostentatious than the Aerendalen allow. 20 gold would be more reasonable.
The priests of the Locamyrida jealously horde their scrolls for future perils. None are available for sale.
Ulwe's sermon is well received but he gains only a few volunteers from his own sect. None of the town watch volunteer, as they are burdened enough with their own patrols and seek shelter from the biting cold whenever possible.
Pogar finds no one who can make sense of the inscriptions. He does, however, find a lot of townsfolk who think he's crazy for shuffling around the taverns in the dead of winter with a scrap of parchment bearing funny writing.

Re: Dobrug
Work on Janes' tavern continues through the second month of winter. Furniture is hard to find, so the place remains a bit empty, but Janes does make contact with a brewer from Osender. Kura, the brewer, is in fact Ruglan's older brother and quickly became a logical choice for Janes who was looking for trustworthy folk to staff and provision his tavern.
Kura, Janes and Ruglan meet regularly, sampling his ales and meads and generally passing time during the cold winter. While Janes keeps his background vague, Kura talks openly about the history of his family - a topic which quickly piques Janes' interest.
Kura mentions that his family moved out of Dobrug during his father's time because of a number of failed business ventures, one of which was his grandfather's shipbuilding enterprise. It seems that the flow of timber out of the Nral valley was vital to the construction and repair of galleys for the Lunars. Kura notes that Janes is an uncommon name (which it is) but that his grandfather spoke once or twice about a brother called Janes that disappeared in the Nral while searching for new sources of timber some forty years ago.

Re: Dobrug
Ulwe chafes at Waed Daeva's disaproval for a glorious new golden holy symbol. "I shall be wandering again after the Watermael. When I go, I will be happy to unburdon much of my new-found wealth upon this shrine. I will be carrying some of it with me to do continue with my efforts. The easiest and most sensible way is to wear it. If I am going to spend money on a mere bauble, I would rather put it into a more holy form, that it may serve more than one purpose."
[Aerendalen do not have a poverty vow. I want to be able to carry my gold in a more transportable and secure form than coin, I also want to have a nice holy symbol. Somewhere in between? say 100gp?]
[A more transportable form would be gems or jewelry. Gold invested in a holy symbol is no longer currency, since Orlanth would split Ulwe's skull in half if he ever thought of melting it down. A silver chain could be sold. A holy symbol... probably not. -GM]
[The Dice Server is down or something, keep getting CGI errors. ]

Just sittin' on the dock of a bay...
Unless Madragar/Anorre hears back from Khelzad on the scrolls, he will spend his time watching winter beat the crap out of Dobrug.

[What about then say a Holy Symbol worth around 50 on a chain worth 150?]
[That's fine. -GM]

Re: Dobrug
Being now more accustomed to city life, Khelzhad spends the second month exchanging stories with the other bards in town. [I will post Khelzhad's version of our adventure soon - tomorrow eve, hopefully]. In answering the skeptics questions, he is sure not to mention Zuqulzahren, the machine, the Utama or Madragar's magic.

Re: Dobrug
The second month of winter grinds painfully forward. Janes drops another 80 gold or so into his new tavern securing some decent furniture, crockery, and a supply of ale, mead and wine. Ruglan and Draxim stare at the walls.
[Month #3. What's up?]

Re: Dobrug
Ulwe humbly begs of his Temple superiors to be allowed the opportunity to learn to Perform the Rituals of the cult.
He also spends some more time around the Cult of Orlanth the Seafarer to learn what news he can of the lands on the map. Also he asks around the temple about the strange ship Uzla Thura.
Ulwe also pens a cryptic message to Madragar, which he sends via Janes' place addressed to Annore.

Pogar will spend his down time practicing with the sword, familiarizing himself with the sword more as well as joining Madragar in watching the winter beat the crap out of Dobrug.

Re: Dobrug
On one especially crappy winter day, when the streets are filled with dirty ice and the air filled with just enough moisture to sting, Madragar finds Pogar. The wizard wears a comically large fur-lined hat and mittens. At first glance, he appears more like an elderly fishwife than the last scion of a fearsome line of mages.
"I have received an urgent summons from Brother Ulwë. It seems even a Dobrug winter cannot keep trouble at bay. Will you accompany me to the Five Wells, Master Pogar? It is a fine day for a walk, if one happens to be a harbor seal, that is."
With or without Pogar, Madragar/Anorre then proceeds to visit Ulwe and see why Khelzad has not returne his note.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
[Once in the inn?]
Divesting himself of his furs, but not the hat, Madragar urgently warms himself beside the fire and calls for a cup of hot cider. Seeing Ulwe, he waves the elf over to the fireside.
"Summoned, I come," he says with a slight grin.
Re: Dobrug
The Five Wells is quiet with only a few of the usual customers loitering around the fireplace. None of them pay Madragar or his companions the least bit of attention.
Re: Dobrug
[Ulwe had been staying at the Locamyrida. I think the party now has been meeting at Janes' tavern. Anyhow...]
Ulwe greets Madragar with a rare smile and then his face is earnest and serious again.
"I am sorry to have dragged you out on such a day. I was expecting a return and have yet to make certain arrangements. But while you are out, come with me this day. There are things of which we must speak, but not here. Come with me to my Temple and wait at the shrine of the Sea-wanderer. Once there I shall speak with a superior to arrange a safe place to speak."
Ulwe heads back to the Temple with Anorre/Madragar and leaves the anxious mage at the Aerendalen shrine in the company of his fellow priests. Then Ulwe seeks out Brae the Diviner to ask permission for the room at the base of the Windlord's Tower.
Re: Dobrug
Brae declines Ulwe's request, but does allow him to use another chamber, similarly protected, in a different part of the Locamyrida. The temple is huge and full of narrow passages and locked doors beyond which only a few priests have been. The small chamber that Brae leads Ulwe and Madragar to is just one of many such places.
