Re: Dobrug
I have been spending time with the Ironhoof Olmani, but so many strangers come and go at their camp - none of have stood out as suspicious to me, but I do not have Ulwe's eyes for spotting the taint of chaos. Still, there is a link that cannot be denied. The Lioness has been upfront with us that she seeks more stones such as those that you have described.

Re: Dobrug
Ulwe, being too greif-stricken to notice that Pogar had repeated his very words, reiterates: "Yashai needs to be watched. While we speak here, Naredru may be heading to her encampment. Naredru may also be after her stones, rather than wishing to sell the one he has stolen."
"He will be using all of his sorcerous ways to avoid detection. Anorre, How can we catch him?"

Re: Dobrug
"The old-fashioned way, I fear. A powerful wizard might find him sooner, but I know of none such hereabouts. Such petty charms as our friends possess will not directly avail us."
"But something troubles me. Naredru was formerly thought to be of good character, was he not? And know he has murdered the last great one known to us. One after another the titans fall. Surely Naredru is not responsible for them all. A greater, darker hand works from the shadows. And so I ask myself, was Naredru a willing assassin? Or was he...what is the word?"
"Framed."

Re: Dobrug
Shrugging, Pogar replys "Framed or not, the deed is done and if Naredru is not a willing killer, then he is under some type of control by someone else. Regardless, we need to find him and try to help him or kill him, before he does even worse things.
My saddness will not reach the depth of your" Pogar looks at the newcommers, as well as Ulwe and Madragar, "but I want you to know that I am here to help in any way I can. I know how hard it can be to lose a friend, but to lose two, one seemingly to chaos." Pausing for a second while shaking his head, Pogar continues. "I have never lost a close friend in such a way. Life underground is hard enough. In many ways, harder than life above ground. Though, ultimately life is just hard. I extend my sympathies to you all." Pogar finishes with his chin resting on his barreled chest and eyes closed as if he is saying a little prayer.

Re: Dobrug
"We are not entirely without aid, though it will come at a price. We may be able to make on offer to Yashai, but I'm sure she would not act for less than the prized stone, of which we know little. On the other hand we may be able to hire other help, perhaps through the strongman Oggsrund, or through Ruglan's friends in the watch. Whatever you decide, the Ghuraskalli are ready to help."

Re: Dobrug
"Anorre, I am certain Naredru has been taken by some shadow of Chaos. The elf I knew was not a traitorous murderer. Some of us..." Ulwe indicates Atan, Ruglan and Madragar "...met Naredru when he and I accompanied the Companions with the body of Ruig to Raven's Gate."
He shakes his head again. "No he was not evil, he has been taken by something. We have seen this before." Ulwe places a hand over his chest in the spot where Kezib had nearly killed him. "Even the most virtuous or mighty..." ,he nods towards Ruglan, "... can become servants of the enemy unwillingly or otherwise."
"This changes nothing however. We must find him as soon as possible. Ruglan, can we set the watch to look for him? Domun, Erithen and Atan though this night be inhospitable, you should set out right away to see if Naredru can be found."

Re: Dobrug
Domun stifles a groan, but rises in response to Ulwe's suggestion. "I can track a swift deer for miles in the forest, but have no patience for these townsfolk. We will do what we can to find Naredru."
The two Grovewardens heft their packs and prepare to head back out into the soggy night.

[GM: approxomately how large are the mystery stones?]
[The only person who's ever seen one is Sangraal. Well, and Kezib, but he's dead. Sangraal described it as being about six inches in diameter, covered in odd carvings, and made of dull gray stone. -GM]

Re: Dobrug
"There are only 2 main entrances to Dobrug. I suggest we post a watcher at each while the others search. We might want to keep an eye on the docks as well. I'm sure cousin Pogar would help in this, but I think I may be of more assistance searching the inns and gathering information within the walls. What think ye, Companions - should I attempt to meet with The Lioness?"
[Note also that Pogar and Khelzhad have no idea what Naredru looks like. Even given a description from Ulwe, they'll have a hard time spotting the elf. -GM]

Re: Dobrug
"Tell me what Naredru looked like when you followed him into Dobrug." asks Ruglan. "I will ask my friends in the watch to alert us if he is spotted."
"It is good to see you well, Atan, despite the news you have brought."
Ruglan sits up quickly. "What do you think about placing a bounty on Naredru?" he asks the group. "Too bold and noticable?"

Re: Dobrug
"It is good to see you all again. Even you Anore", he says with a sarcastic grin while raising his mug to group, "Although I havn't resorted to an alias I am more careful about to whom I give it. A quick drink to my companions and then I will tell you what I have been up to."
"I spent the last month in and about Val'waha and Val'waha was a great place to get news about the western plains simply due to the large numbers of Olmani refugees that are stuck there for the winter. I lacked much skill in extracting information from the ubiquitous murmur of rumor among the common folk, but those tribesmen have little else to do but drink, talk and try and survive the winter. I can drink and talk with the best of them." The last word muffled by the mug at his lips.
Smacking, he continues, "More than a month ago, when I was still among the Merek Lek, a charismatic leader arose among the Kulbrae horse tribe. His name was Kuruun and he united the clans of the Kulbrae through negotiation, but more often at the point of a lance. Many believed he had the aid of sorcery for several great patriarchs of the Kulbrae, despite being both proud and belligerant, surrendered their leadership to Kuruun at his approach. Still others met their deaths under mysterious circumstances. Some were poisoned." Atan pauses to take a drink and let the implications of the manner in which the Olmani leaders were disposed of mirrors that of Lyssa and Edrigan the Gold.
"With the seven banners of the Kulbrae tribe behind him, Kuruun rode north toward the sea and the lands of the Ironhoof. Thus did the war between the two tribes begin."
"The Olmani in Val'waha are divided as to who is the stronger combatant, and further divided as to whether Kuruun is a vile tyrant or a noble warrior of the Olmani. But what is not debated is that he is widely respected and feared."
"There was no shortage of speculation and rumors in Val'waha:
- Kuruun is himself a sorcerer, having learned his arts from a wandering Moagaran wizard. No one claims to have seen this wizard other than cousins and friends and uncles that never seem to be around when I was looking for information.
- Yashai, the Lioness, began hiring mercenaries before the war broke out, and seemed to be moving eastward along the coast toward Moagara. Many believed she would take either the side of the Kulbrae or the Ironhoof, but instead she marched to Dobrug. This rumor was widely corroborated.
- Yashai is the daughter of a Xixia prince. The Xixia are another smaller tribe.
- The Yorul broo, and old enemy of the Kulbrae, have been strangely quiet.
- Besides a number of brutal storms that have blown in from the sea, a massive tidal wave washed through the Ironhoof littoral less than a week ago, wiping out an entire village."
"That is all I have learned during my travels. Now as for Naredu, a bounty to the watch may work nice. They are as well as an organized gang can get. Offer 'em a bonus if he is caught with out word that others are paying for the deed."
Seating back in his seat he looks into his now empty ale mug. Before he can ask for another though Pogar is dropping the next round on the table, "Ahh Pogar, you are a genius."

Re: Dobrug
Ulwe tries his best to keep from frowning on all the drinking. But, the elven priest cannot help himself. The consumption of alcohol is a sin to him.
"The bounty should be to capture Naredru alive. If he is posessed, I want to save him. He is a friend. If he is lost to us, we may learn from whatever shadow has posessed him. But it is an excellent idea nonetheless."
"Domun said Naredru became obsessed with a some strange characters. One character in particular: a circle with three arrows pointing outward from its center. That is the same symbol which was on the Scrolls of Irian Aros! Naredru was there in the Hall of the Ghurugil and helped us with the unfortunate Dawn Brother's scrolls. He must have copied some of the symbols. It was those symbols which either drove him mad or allowed some shadow to take posession of him."
Ulwe looks down for a moment before saying "Sangraal has those scrolls."

Re: Dobrug
"Bah, the longer we sit here, the longer we let Naredru and Yashi do what they are set to do by Chaos. Im going to watch her house. I might be able to see who and when someone comes in and out." Pogar says as he stands, grabs his pack and heads for the door, emptying his mug in one big swallow, he slams the mug on the table. He opens the door and disapears into the night.

Re: Dobrug
Madragar frowns when Atan mentions aliases. He does not fully trust the visiting elves and is concerned lest the Merek Lek reveal more in his cups. He says little as Atan speaks, but sits in silence, considering. When Ulwe mentions Irian Aros and Sangraal, however, he looks up, startled by the implication.
Still, he will not speak in the presence of the outsiders.
[Note that Erithwen and Domun both know who Madragar is, after having seen him in the Grove twice. Not that Madragar doesn't want to maintain his alias anyway... just sayin. -GM]

Re: Dobrug
[So far as I know, Both Grovewardens left to search for Naredru. Leaving only the Company in Janes' Tavern.]
[They hadn't left yet, but it doesn't really matter. They're gone for now. -GM]
Ulwe notices Madragar's startled look, and shares a similarly disconcerned expression.
Ulwe leans close to Madragar and says in a low voice "Remember our conversation at the Temple"
And then indicates the two unoccupied seats still wet from their recent occupants. "We are as safe as most places here. Speak Anorre, for it is your wise counsel we need in this grave hour."

[weird. Ez Board apparently won't allow different formatting by different authors simultaneously. e.g. Only your blue text or my italics will work at a given time, not both. Aside from that observation, there is a note in my forum for the GM]

Re: Dobrug
[One's ezCode and one's HTML. I've started using HTML because ezCodes turns the letters "script" into "*****". So, inscription becomes in******ion. Annoying.
Got the note. I don't always have a ready answer.]

"We must get to Sangraal right away. If Naredru can be harmed by these signs, so might he. I felt it was a mistake for him to spend the winter apart, and now I fear greatly that I was right. Atan, you came here through the snows. Can you get to Sangraal?"

"Fisherman's son, you forget the fastest road of them all: the sea-road. I can book passage with ease to Thasvara, and from there find Sangraal. I would rather remain here in Dobrug, and find Naredru first."
