Re: Rubies and Crown
If no one else will do it, Janes volunteers to take rubbings of the impressions on the crown, never know when that might come in handy.

Re: Rubies and Crown
Mighty Orlanth having spoken so decisively, Madragar thinks no more of the crown, other than the little dollar signs in his eyes.

Re: Rubies and Crown
"Eye, I agree to selling the crown." Pogar states flatly, as he sees the change in demeanor in the Mage.
"First, let the lad get the impression of the crown on paper, so we can have it for later and let that lady know we are sellin' it to her. Do we have any idea as to who she is? Is the lass the right one to sell to? She is the only one who offered to see it, so I would like to say she is a powerful one, or knows powerful people at the least." Pogar says, to no one in particular.

Re: Rubies and Crown
Janes makes a rubbing of the crown's markings, and then transfers those characters to a few pieces of parchment, giving one to Madragar for safe keeping. [Is it on your equipment list yet?]
[If you are opposed to selling the crown, speak up now. I want to move into month #2.]

Sell it! Khelzhad has no wish to play kingmaker at his young age.

Re: Rubies and Crown
So I went and did a little reseach and saw that a few items had not been accounted for in the selling of the goods. The initial 7352.8. gold was the total coinage from the Urukavas Horde.
Here are the rest of the items which by my calculation are unaccounted for:
Black Opal Ring: found on skellaton with burned plant
Antique Lunar coins: found same place
2 small Pearls: from 1st duergar priestess
Duergar Captain's Chain: 'The duergar captain also has a thick silver chain that the dwarves agree is worth about 400 gold.'
These were part of teh Urukavas horde:
A collection of silver rings, chains, bracelets and broaches worth from 500-800 gold, all told.
A smaller array of gold jewelry worth from 1500-2250 gold.
Assorted simple gemstones worth approximately 1200 gold.

Re: Rubies and Crown
[I can't have treasure from six months ago suddenly pop up. All the stuff from the first duergar encounter was divied up, by my record, and by looking at certain people's character sheets.
As for the Urukavas horde, you are correct. I make no attempt to keep track of everyone's equipment. I trust you'll do that for yourselves, and be honest about it.]

Re: Rubies and Crown
At the meeting where the fate of the crown is being discussed. Ulwe mentions:
"The Augury is only accurate for a short time. A half-hour or so. I believe still that selling the crown would best benefit us with the gold it will bring, and the trouble it will save."
[Sorry about that... I still say sell it! ]

Re: Rubies and Crown
[I was just trying to do a little record keeping because Draxim's character sheet was 'lost' and he was holding all the treasure I thought. The coins from the 1st Duergar encounter were divvyed up. The pearls and the Black opal ring were being held By Draxim I thought. As for the assorted gold and silver jewlry and simple gemstones, should we assume Draxim and the others were able to liquidate them? And the Duergar Captain's Chain was a sentimental item I thought Khelzhad wanted and the value was to be deducted from his share of the treasure... ]
[That's fine. You're just greedy enough to be a good treasurer. Leave the pearls and Black opal out of your calculations - Draxim is turning those into something more valuable. Draxim can liquidate all of the assorted jewelry and gemstones if you want. -GM]
[Greedy!? I resemble that remark! The last bit is the value of the stuff. It was 500-800 for the silver jewlry and 1500-2250 for the gold jewlry. Do you need to roll to determine the value? ]
[700 for the silver, 2000 even for the gold. -GM]

Greed is Good
ok so there was additional 3900 gold worth of treasure (assorted Jewlry and gems) left over from the Urkavas horde. Divided up amongst the nine PCs gives a total of 433.3 more gold for each character!
As for the silver Duergar chain Ulwe proposes that Khelzhad gets it and he gives each character 44.4 gold for to make it all fair and square (head)
Mark 433 gold 3 silver on your sheets!
(Khelzhad would get only 33 more gold and each of us would get an additional 44 gold and 4 silver if he takes the Duergar Captain's chain. )
Also don't forget the 200 gold each for the rubies!

Re: Greed is Good
GAAAH!
Well, thanks for doing this, Sean. I surely had forgotten that (having decided to leave it in the hands of the now-absent Draxim).
And what of the value of the crown?
[The crown is valuable enough that no one in the party can put a price on it. The only person in Dobrug willing or able to buy it appears to the Yashai, and she's offering 8,000 gold lunars for it. -GM]

Re: Greed is Good
The companions dither over selling the crown for what's left of the month. In the meantime, Janes buys a "fixer upper" tavern from some old man and goes about repairing the tiny establishment. The wind grows colder and the lashing winter rains become more frequent. The whole town seems to retreat into their respective caves, huddling together for warmth. The price of firewood steadily increases.

Re: Greed is Good
Seeing as the weather seems to be cutting down on the business, Pogar offers his services at the Tavern that Janes just bought.
[There's plenty to do in the little tavern, sandwiched between a cobbler and a boarding house. Pogar's smithing skills would probably come in handy. -GM]

January
Ulwe having been too distracted by thoughts of unaccounted jewlery and the high price of the crown to effectively learn the rites of Concentration, sets himself again to the task. [60 gp ]
In whatever spare time he has, Ulwe tries to tend to the needs of the community, particularly the less fortunate. With other priests from the Locamyrida he does what he can to help feed and clothe the poor. He does not hesitate to solicit monies from his wealthy companions. [Ulwe donates 50 gp]
He also feels particularly guilty at having cheated Humakt's Oath. Not wishing to bring the ire of the Death-God upon him, the Orlanthian priest makes a visit to the Sword-Elders. [note to GM in my forum. ]
Ulwe does spend some of his money on a new and magnificent spear: a master-worked weapon of the highest quality created by one of Dobrug's best weapon-smiths. The long and broad head of the spear is made of the finest steel and iron. Through the skilled pattern welding and fine tempering, the blade has a perfect scale-like pattern, and razor sharp edge. The perfectly balanced shaft of ash has silver inlay in abstract shapes depicting a water motif. The butt of the spear has a pointed cap of iron, with engravings of strange sea-creatures. Holding the fine weapon before the immense statue of Orlanth at the Locamyridra, Ulwe intones his patrons blessings upon the spear and names it " carac o limlig" 'sea serpent's fang' or "Fang" for short. [302 gp]
Finally he sees to his poor old neglected horse 'Leisel' and pays another month's board. [10 gp]

Re: Greed is Good
Madragar (still using the alias Anorre the Sage) retreats into his rooms, rarely emerging even for meals. The dark tan the bald mage acquired over the summer is fading to pale. Stubble grows on his head and chin. He seems obsessed with his work and often has a faraway look even when gathered for communal meals. He is growing thin.
At one point, he says (when none of the locals are within earshot), "I've been unlocking many of the secrets of the tome of Uftali, to aid us in the Spring. Transferring these into my own notes has been very expensive. I will soon begin the process of writing down several instances of these wondrous charms onto scrolls, for use in battle. This will also be expensive and require even small amounts of my own life force. Since most of these will benefit you, I would be grateful if you would assist me with the cost."
"In addition, it has come about that the snows and rains of winter have prevented the merchants from renewing supplies in Dobrug. I have at last used up all the precious inks available in the town. Now that I finally have the time and money to pen spells and scrolls, I cannot buy the inks. However, there is one person in town who has them: Yashai, the Lioness."
"When we sell her the crown, we should request part of the payment in the form of the rare inks I need. Perhaps 600 of my share and 50 from each of your shares? That would be 1,000 lunars worth of the inks I need, and the party would be far better off, come spring."

Re: Greed is Good
Pogar, without so much as a blink, goes into his ever present bag. Silently, Pogar pulls out a handfull of gold and places it in Madragar's hand. (200 Gold).
"Think that'll get you what you need, there sagy boy?" Pogar smiles.
At Madragars suggestion of a sacrafice in money for the crown, Pogar meerly nods his head.

Re: Greed is Good
Madragar smiles, gratefully. "It is most generous, Master Dwarf. A sign of true greatness of spirit. But 50 lunars from each would amount to 400 lunars. This is the amount I need to create the scrolls I have described. But this will allow me craft many extras through the winter, which I shall be sure to use to your benefit. My thanks."
He looks around the room.

Re: Greed is Good
While taking a break from his studies as well as his charitable work, Ulwe manages to sneak away to Janes' tavern (What is it called by the way?). Casting a wary eye on the fare, Ulwe wisely decides to fast for the evening, as Pogar's Cave Delight looks quite strange and unappetising to the Elven Priest.
As the discussion regarding the crown continues, Ulwe agrees with Madragar.
"Aye, I think it wise to plan for the future. To that effect, I will gladly give a 50 lunar portion of my share from the sale of the crown. Those who are absent, Atan and Sangraal, I'm sure would agree with you as well Madragar."
"Now then master Dwarf, " Ulwe claps Pogar on his back ".. if you've a hole in your pocket and need to get rid of some of your gold, The poor of Dobrug would be most appreciative of your wealth."
