Dobrug, Part II
The companions set out from Janes' tavern just after dusk, the twilight casting gloomy bruises over the sky's gray canvas. A light drizzle falls on the town, pushing its denizens indoors and soaking those unfortunate enough to lack shelter.
Ruglan locates a few of his friends from the town watch, but once they are told the mischevous plan would take them deep into kuralitai territory they all back out with a variety of excuses. No one seems eager to stir up that particular hornets nest, except for the gang of cloaked warriors splashing toward Uruul's shop.
The companions [Ulwe, Madragar, Janes, Ruglan, Atan, Khelzhad and Pogar] find a quiet tavern a few blocks from their destination and stop to make final preparations.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
On the way to the tavern, Ulwe want's to reconnoiter the warehouse that Brae told him about. He wants to go there with the Companions so they know where it is and can retreat there if necessary.
Once in the tavern, Ulwe huddles close to his Companions and asks:
"Is there anything else to do before you three embark on this risky endeavour?"
Ulwe pressed Khelzhad to hand over his precious scroll back to Madragar, so that the Mage can send word to Ulwe and the others via Whispering Wind.
"Song-Wise, though you cannot directly participate in the apprehending of Uruul, you can aid Madragar and the others by giving him the Arcane scroll he penned for you."
Then Ulwe reiterates his idea for the plan:
"Atan, Madragar and Janes steal upon the window of Uruul's shop. If the merchant is in his bedroom, then Madragar can enslumber him and then the three of you bundle him away. If he is not, then you lay in wait until he comes around. then enslumber him and bundle him away. As soon as the deed is done, or if you three fail and need a hasty retreat, send word to us waiting nearby. I will cover your escape with a dense Fog Cloud. We all then make for the warehouse. If things go badly, Ruglan and Pogar are here for their strong sword arms. We'll wait until we hear from you."
"If anyone wants to change the plan now is the time."

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Khelzhad gives the scroll of Whispering Wind to Madragar. "To hear the message of the wind, one must be in the exact place chosen. Send message back in need of help - I will come forthwith in the guise of a kurlati."

Re: Dobrug, Part II
"Fine enough for me. I think its a bit of a wild plan, but I have seen worse." Pogar says with a hearty laugh that reverberates across the tavern, causing the few patrons, including his friends, to pause for a second before returning to their drinks and conversation.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
On the way to the tavern (a little place called, simply, Bora's) Ulwe leads the group to the empty warehouse Brae suggested they could use in case things didn't go so well. It is indeed empty and looks both secure and inconspicuous enough to make a good hideout.
[Here's a mapof some relevant locations in Dobrug.
Red: Uruul's shop
Green: Bora's tavern
White: Empty warehouse
Blue: Janes' tavern]

Re: Dobrug, Part II
"Thank you, my friend," says Madragar, refusing Khelzad's scroll. "Keep it for your own need. I have my own."
Then, he casts Mage Armor and leads Atan and Janes to the street facing Uruul's hideout from the north. If they do not see any guards, they quickly move to the north wall of the block. Any place shielded from the view of the general public would be ideal.
"I will cast Spider Climb on Atan, who can lower down a rope for Janes and me," he whispers.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Atan, Madragar, and Janes pull their cloaks tightly around them and disappear into the night.
[Everyone else remains in the tavern, yes? No?]
Darkness closes in quickly as the dense clouds obscure the moon, and both Madragar and Janes find that they can barely see the ground in front of their feet. Atan's elven eyes fare a bit better and he must guide the two along as they make their way south.
The cold drizzle of the afternoon turns into a steady rain in the evening. Atan is relived to see no kuralitai patrols in the vicinity of Uruul's shop. The trio pass by many makeshift lean-tos and filthy canvas tents that huddle against every inch of open wall in this part of Dobrug. Their denizens, however, mind their own business.
[Someone needs to run Atan. I don't care who.]

Re: Dobrug, Part II
"My presence will be more useful close at hand". He looks at the well crafter ring of silver on his right hand and mutters "Silkreik", then vanishes from sight.
"The rest of you wait here", says the bard's voice out of the ether, "and listen for the whisper on the wind in case there is trouble".
Khelzhad will follow the away team armed, but invisible. He takes a position across the northern street from the shop (if possible with a view of the upper floor windows, and remains tense motionless.

Twelve seconds after becoming invisible, Khelzhad is visible again.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Upon seeing his cousin turn visible again, Pogar laughs.
"You shoulda stuck to the true art of hack and hack. He laughs giving Khelzhad a playful punch on the arm.
"I will head towards the shop but not close to it. I might be recognised by someone in that area, so I am going to hang back a bit, also I want to be close to the area to jump into the fight real quick."
Pogar gets up and leaves.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[I thought it was cast as 10th level and would last an hour?]
[Change Self lasts an hour. Disappear is Invisibility with a 2 round duration. The ring is designed to allow the wearer to disappear briefly, change his appearance, then reappear. -GM]
[Since it is done, then, Khelzhad will assume the dress, stature and appearance of a kurlati guard.]

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Ulwe grabs Pogar's shoulder and gently restrains the Dwarf.
"Hold friend. Let's stick together." He whispers. "Our friend's success depends on discipline right now. Please listen to me Pogar."
Ulwe and the Companions will not wait in the tavern but will position themselves as close as Atan feels is safe. With the ranger's help, the party will conceal themselves in an alley near Uruul's shop, keeping a lookout on the others.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
With a whispered incantation, Madragar's eyes flash momentarily with a weird light.
Darkvision
When the three are at the wall and convinced that they are not being observed, Madragar casts Spider Climb on Atan, and hands him a rope.
Atan ascends the wall and drops the rope back for Janes and Madragar, who climb quickly, bringing the rope up behind them.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Is their goal to get to the roof, or enter through a window?
There are no lights visible inside the shop.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
I want to be clear on this. Uruul's shop is in another part of the block, yes? The nearby window doesn't lead into his shop?

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Ok, I didn't catch that part. Your on the north side of the block. Uruul's shop is facing east. There are what look to be two storehouses of indeterminate nature, a tanner shop, and someone's row house.
So, roof or window?

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Roof. With Madragar using his Darkvision to look for anyone on the roof, and Janes surveying the area for alarms, snares or traps. Atan watches their rear.
Thinking of this, Madragar casts Detect Magic and scans ahead of them as they slink toward Uruul's shop.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
The angled, gray slate rooftops appear to be empty. The trio pick their way along, though not without a few scrapes and thumps they hope are disguised by the steady rainfall. Near Uruul's shop Madragar slips several feet down the slick surface, grasping desperately before his descent is halted by a convenient stovepipe. Several slate shingles go tumbling onto the muddy street below but there is no one around to see or hear it.
Finally, Madragar, Atan and Janes reach a spot on the roof above Uruul's shop. Madragar, at the peak of the roof, wraps the rope around his waist and braces himself. Atan descends along the length of the rope to the lip of the roof and looks over. Uruul's shop appears empty, or at least it is dark. Two shuttered windows allow access to the second floor from the street.
Janes explores the courtyard side and finds that there is a single shuttered window there. He sees no sign of any kuralitai guards in the courtyard below, but his vision is limited.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[Remember that Atan has Spider Climb. He does not need the rope, nor should the rain or eave present a difficulty.]
"Janes," whispers Madragar. "Return to me a moment." When the ancient rogue reaches the ridgeline, Madragar uses a scroll to cast Darkvision on him as well.
Atan descends to the window and listens. If he hears nothing, he signals Janes and the latter descends the rope and examines the shutters for traps, alarms or other devices.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[Okie.]
Janes, hanging onto the rope with his feet against the side of the row house, inspects the window. The shutter is closed but is held fast by a fairly simple latch that Janes believes he could bypass easily. Beyond the shutters is a dark curtain. There is no light coming from within the house.
Madragar peers over the edge just long enough to check for the presence of magic, but sees nothing out of the ordinary.
