Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Draxim removes his armor and anything else that would make him less stealthy. He takes only his axe, thieves tools, clothes, and a length of rope. He then examines the trap door for traps. If he sees none he will try to open it, and then listen again before proceeding down. If there is no ladder, he makes a knotted rope ladder and secures it to the top for his return.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Pogar, standing by the trap door will smile at Draxim.
"If yer to run, and up the door you come, give me warning first, cuz yer head will be rolling." Pogar says with a wink. As Draxim prepares to go into the trap door, looks at Pogar, not sure if hes joking or not.

[I did read it (traditional defensive stance), but obviously not close enough...:) ]

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Draxim carefully proceeds down the steep wooden staircase just below the trap door. As a dwarf he can't help but inspect the masonry on the way down and notices that the tunnel has been recently carved - probably within the last month. The staircase puts him about fifteen feet below street level where it terminates at a wooden door.

Draxim inspects the portal closely. He listens at it, then pokes carefully around it searching for traps. Satisfied that there are none he pushes it aside, happy that it moves on well oiled hinges. Beyond, Draxim beholds a straight tunnel extending east to the limits of his darkvision. The tunnel itself, however, stops him cold.

The tunnel is round and undulating, with no signs of how it was constructed: no lines delineating individual blocks of stone and no visible mortar. The walls of the tube are smooth and undulating, like some massive throat, or the inside of a worm. Draxim gulps loudly, remembering a similar tunnel beneath the watchtower near Grugni's house by the coast.

A few feet away Draxim spots a line of inscriptions that extend up the side of the tube, continue along the ceiling, and then come back down to rejoin their fellows on the floor in an unending line.

Faced with this new challenge, Draxim creeps back up the stair to whisper his findings to his companions.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Hearing of the strange writing, Ulwe is immediately interested and descends the staircase bearing the magic lantern. Once he sees the strange corridor and the accompanying inscriptions, the priest of Orlanth's face becomes ashen.

"Those marks are the same as the ones on the scrolls of Irian Aros." he hisses to Madragar. Ulwe leans close to the mage and whispers something inaudible to him.

"Draxim, or Ghuraskali cousins, can you tell anything about this strange tunnel?" he asks the Dwarves in a hushed voice.

[Gm is Detect Chaos still active? duration 30 minutes.]

Khelzhad joins the others in the tunnel, intrigued by both the construction and symbols. He'll give his best guess as to the maker's techniques. [Underworld Lore]

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
[No one's in the tunnel, actually. Draxim came back up to the surface to report what he saw.]

Khelzhad, without getting close to the inscriptions, gets a good look at the tunnel's construction, but is baffled by it. The tube is like nothing he's seen or heard of in all his years living underground. It wasn't built in any way he understands, and doesn't appear to be the work of some burrowing creature either.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Draxim is on edge. Anyone talking in the tunnel will be roundly shushed. After some people get some chances to inspect the tunnel, he tries to usher everyone back upstairs into the shop.

"Look, we have enough now to go to the authorities. At the very least, we know we have someone in custody, that might know the meanings of some of that writing. We should go back, and secure Uruul, and then take him and copies of those runes to someone with some authority. Anyways, we absolutely shouldn't go down the tunnel, or we'll end up killin' each other like Naredu..."

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Pogar will go down and inspect, expecting the same reaction as Khelzhad.
"That tunnel is not man made, dwarf made nor is it creature made. I think that this needs to be reported." Pogar says flatly.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Atan listens carefully and is not suprised by the findings.

" A dark temple like the one we found before. A fortuitive event this is as we have the oppurtunity to smash a second temple."

[OOC: I'm all for adventuring into the tunnel and smashing the place up ( all in the name of good of course). The law doesnt work the same way in Moagara as it does in the real world and we have a chance to actually catch a coven by surprise.

Atan is not my character so I feel like I should'nt press him into an adventure that could kill him so I'll refrain from the vote. That being said here's my 2 cents.

We now know Uruuls and his boss are in league with Chaos so attacking the temple should be ok, and suprise is on our side. Lets adventure!

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
[Since the PCs have a moderately better idea of how things work in Dobrug than the players, I might point out that so far you don't have anything on Yashai. Going back to the powers that be and saying that there's a freaky tunnel under the town doesn't get past the fact that the Lioness has a small army of her own, and can merely say 'no' when the Council comes by wanting to poke around under Uruul's shop.]

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Madragar draws a deep breath and lets it out slowly.

Then he turns to his companions and speaks. "Chaos is afoot. This is no longer merely the harboring of a known criminal. This is the outright cancer of Chaos inside our very own city. I know not what part the Lioness may play in this, and I am not familiar with the laws of the city."

"But I do know that we here gathered are the warriors of Light, whether we are conscious of that fact or no. There lies our enemy. Here we stand arrayed for war and possessing the fleeting advantage of surprise. What more do strong arms and stout hearts require?"

With that, the bald mage drops into the trap door, to see this foul tunnel for himself.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Draxim shrugs and puts his chainmail back on.

"Well you know I won't abandon you lot regardless. Ulwe, is the hall a thing of Chaos or not? 'Cause, it sure looks like it to me. 'Festering Chaos' as Ruig would say."

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
Ulwe stands next to Madragar and nods his head in agreement. Holding out a hand to silence the Companions, Ulwe concentrates deeply. He takes a deep breath through his flared nostrils and fills his lungs. He holds his breath a moment before exhaling again through his nose. The elven priest scans the tunnel and the strange inscriptions for the taint of Chaos.

Re: Next time I'll cut ya real slow
As Ulwe takes in the scene, Atan and Janes use hand signals to decide who should creep forward and give a listen.

As Madragar enters the trapdoor, Khelzhad whispers:"If our enemies have an alarm set in yon tunnel, can you disable it?"

[Sense Chaos only grants +10.]

Ulwe concentrates on the tunnel ahead, but does not detect even the slightest whiff of Chaos in the area.

Keep going
Ulwe shakes his head.
"I cannot sense any trace of the Enemy here Draxim." answers the Elf priest to the Dwarf thief.

To the rest of the party he says "While I agree this tunnel should be reported to my Temple Elders as well as the City Fathers, we need more to go on than a mysterious tunnel with strange inscriptions."

Ulwe gets a piece of paper and pen from his tooled leather scrollcase and tries to transcribe the strange writing on the wall which remind him of the Scrolls of Irian Aros.

When that task is complete he says to Atan and Madragar he says "You are right, let's keep going."

As Ulwe scribbles, each character in turn vanishes from the tunnel as it is written on the page.

Re: Keep going
Astonished at what is happening he pauses and looks to Madragar with an expectant look.
"Fisherman's son, what do you make of this?"

"I suppose it is better to finish and have one complete inscription than two partial inscriptions."

though he hesitates before completing the trascription, waiting for Madragar's opinion.
