Re: Keep going
"Until we decipher those runes, I cannot be certain," says Madragar, warily. "But they form a coherent whole, such that they can exist only in one place at a time. In a sense, I believe that these runes are alive."

Re: Keep going
The inscription disappears from the stone of the tunnel as it is written onto Ulwe's parchment. Once completed, Ulwe observes that the inscription has completely disappeared from the tunnel.
The party pauses, watching. Nothing happens.

Re: Keep going
Is the tunnel still a freaky undulating thing? Draxim listens again.

Re: Keep going
[The tunnel isn't moving, it just isn't a smooth cylindrical tube either. The floor, walls and ceiling all gradually rise and fall at uneven intervals.
Draxim hears nothing.]

Re: Keep going
[how steeply does the tunnel slope - does it look slippery? Any smells coming from the depths? Khelzhad is carrying his weapons, but does not have his full adventure gear (spikes, ropes, hammer, etc.).]

Re: Keep going
The tunnel doesn't slope at all, and doesn't look slippery. Since it's cylindrical, and only about eight feet wide, the party will have to go single file. Khelzhad doesn't smell anything unusual, other than Pogar.

Ulwe folds his paper and replaces it in the scroll case.
"Let's go. Draxim, lead the way."

"OK."
Draxim moves forward slowly and silently cautioning the others to stay back a bit.

Re: Keep going
[What's your marching order?]
The group creeps carefully down the tube while occasionally stopping to listen. As they move, the trio of dwarves often exchange glances and vague hand signals, comparing what their innate sense of direction and depth is telling them. The ceiling of the passage remains about fifteen feet below street level.
The tunnel plunges eastward and after several minutes Pogar whispers that they have journeyed beneath the kuralitai barracks and are approaching the house of the Lioness. Close to where the dwarves believe her abode to be located, the tunnel splits. The intersection contains three passages, each spoking outward in perfect symmetry. The companions approach the intersection from the west and can either proceed to the northeast or southeast.
To the northeast, Draxim's darkvision reveals that the passage makes a serpentine turn to the left. The southeast passage ends at a door some forty feet away.

Re: Keep going
Janes tries to position himself as a rear guard. He'll keep stoping and turning around to look and listen for anyone that might be coming behind them, loaded crossbow in hand.

[Janes is still under the effect of Madragar's Darkvision spell. Speaking of which, what sort of light sources is the party using?]

[Provisional Marching Order:
Draxim
Pogar
Madragar
Ulwe
Khelzad
Atan
Janes
Anyone I've forgotten]
As to light sources, only Ulwe and Atan need them, so I'll let them answer.

Re: Keep going
Pogar will remain behind Draxim, quietly grumbling to himself, as he tightens his grip on his trusty axe. Once the party stops, Pogar peers down the hall and sees the door. Pogar shrugs, and points down the hall where it turns at the end. He then whispers, as quietly as the gruff dwarf can, "Me thinks we should head down that way, to make sure that there is no one guarding down there. If we try to open that door and its a guard room, how will we survive if the other end is also a place for guards? Best to make sure our backsides are covered."
[Doesnt Khelzhad have the lamp from Uruul?]

Re: Keep going
Draxim considers the two options while examining the intersection for oddities. Then he motions everyone to stay quiet and stay put (whispering to Atan and Ulwe if they have on light) and quietly proceeds down the tunnel to the door, and listens at it.
[seriously everyone should not be whispering at this point.]

Re: Keep going
[So Atan and Ulwe are using Uruul's magic lantern to see. It sheds light in a 20' radius.]
Draxim inches down the southeast tunnel, his breath forming the slightest wisp of mist in the crisp subterranean air. He can clearly see the door ahead, set as it is in a wall made of ordinary masonry. He is curious about the abrupt change from the smooth, organic construction of the tunnel to the blocks of simple Moagaran granite, but figures that the door probably leads to a basement room of some kind.
Draxim gets within ten feet or so of the door when he notices another line of strange characters written in the rock of the tunnel. It appears to be identical to the inscriptions beneath Uruul's shop - the ones that Ulwe transcribed causing them to disappear.
A few feet beyond the ring of runes stands the door, which appears quite sturdy. It is iron bound and has a large locking mechanism on one side.

Re: Keep going
Ulwe leans close to Madragar and Atan as he whispers: "I have heard tales of Darkleeches. Some spoken you and others told by Lyssa. Do you think these tunnels could have been created by them?"

Re: Keep going
Draxim takes a closer look at the change in the tunnel, looking for anything suspicious, but he does not advance past the runes. After his examinations he returns to the group at the fork and motions to Ulwe and Madragar making writing gestures and pointing down the tunnel then pointing at the leather on which Ulwe already inscribed the runes from the tunnel they already passed through, pointing back towards the door.
Finally he gently tugs at Ulwe's sleeve and motions the rest to stay put.
He leads Ulwe to where he can see the writing and points again at Ulwe's scribing materials. Then looks at him expectantly.
