Re: The Door
In a repeat of Pogar's feckless experience, Ulwe dodges down the tunnel and drives his spear into Yashai's chest. Its progress is not resisted in the slightest, the point of the weapon passing harmlessly through the Lioness. Ulwe might as well have been spearing the air.

Yashai ignores him and continues to concentrate on Pogar.

[Note to Pogar.]

Re: The Door
Hustling along the trail so recently trod by Pogar and Ulwe, Khelzhad pushes past the duo and jogs off into the darkness to the east. He half expects to bump into Yashai on his way, but Khelzhad doesn't feel a thing as his hand brushes through the air the Lioness appears to occupy.

Re: The Door
Draxim shouts "Urox! guide me!" Then speeds up the ladder full steam, sword in hand. He attempts to break through the trap door by main force, and then sweep the room clear of foes with a mighty swing of the Two-Handed sword.

Re: The Door
[Now that's more like it. Enough talk!]

Draxim, fed up with the whole stinkin situation, snorts like an adolescent bull and charges at the staircase. Tree-trunk legs churn beneath his armored torso. Massive, battle scarred hands grip his deadly duergar blade. Consumed with feral fury, Draxim bellows out his rage before hitting the first step. Then, in three thunderous strides, he flies up the staircase.

BOOM BOOM BOOM! The fresh timbers shriek in protest as Draxim makes his ascent, terminating at the horizontal planks of the portal above.

BLAM! The trap door flies upward and out. An unfortunate kuralitai guard that happened to be standing on the portal tumbles head over heels through the back room of the shop as the dwarven cannonball knocks the trap door clean off its hinges. Flinders fill the air.

Draxim's roar nearly deafens the dozen or so kuralitai loitering around the shop, not one of them expecting a sudden attack from below. Without hesitating, Draxim hauls back and chops at the nearest guard, decapitating the surprised soldier and the man next to him in one terrible stroke. Blood erupts from the standing corpses like twin fountains, painting the room with sticky gore.

Draxim faces a wall of scarlet surcoats, black leather lamellar, and drawn scimitars. The momentum is clearly his, however, as all those in his vicinity are pushing toward the exits. Only the density of the crowd prevents their immediate flight.

[Clearing the room was a lot to ask of a hero point, but it was a worthy effort.

That was the surprise round. Everyone, even the other PCs, were completely surprised by this turn of events. Now we're in the normal turn sequence.]

Map.

[Just so we're clear, the Tunnel is where most of the party currently is, facing off with Yashai. The western end of the tunnel consists of a wooden staircase that leads to the now open trap door - just north of Draxim's position. There is a staircase going to the second floor of the shop just to the west of Draxim. The long, light brown rectangles represent shelves, each about four feet high.]

Re: The Door
[On his turn]

Pogar, feeling Yashai probing his memories, will first shake his head as to get a bug from his ear, let out a primal roar. Trying to fill his mind with pure hatered as well as his disgust by the cowardly ways of this woman. Pogar will follow suit of Draxim and plow into the room, attacking the first guard that he lays eyes on.

Re: The Door
Ulwe moves through Yashai to stand next to Khelzhad. Then he turns to watch the witch. "There is no escape from the Lightbringers, foul wench of Salhaug!" He shouts as he then summons the War-like aspect of his God Orlanth. "Spirit of Zvhedros strike down my enemy!" Taking his spear Fang in hand overhead, Ulwe then seems to throw the precious weapon at Yashai. Though a shaft of glimmering force flies straight and true to the Olamnni sorceress, the spear never leaves Ulwe's hand.

Re: The Door
Pogar rushes after Draxim. However, being a dwarf, his legs can only carry him so far. Pogar reaches the bottom of the stairs.

Ulwe calls on the Wind Lord once again, his prayer echoing off the tunnel walls. Yashai turns to face him and, hearing his words and seeming to understand their meaning, braces herself against the attack that is to come. A shimmering lance of raw force lashes out at her, cutting through her ornate robes and into the incorporeal flesh beneath.

Ulwe shakes his spear in triumph, having wounded an enemy that appeared moments ago to be invulnerable. Khelzhad cheers as well, slapping the elf encouragingly on the back. Yashai clutches at the wound for a moment, her hand stained black with blood.

Simultaneously, Khelzhad and Ulwe think "black blood?"

Quietly at first, Yashai begins to moan. The moan quickly rises to a terrible howl, her head thrown back and mouth agape. The howl rises to an almost inhuman scream, then careens headlong into the realm of nightmares.

"....raawaaaaaarrWAAAAAARRRRGGG!" the demonic howl rips through the tunnel, shaking the timbers of the shop above. It is as if a gateway to the Screaming Hell were suddenly flung open.

Yashai's body undergoes a terrible transformation. In the fraction of a second her robes are torn to shreds as the flesh beneath grows to monsterous proportions. Instantly her skin grows pale, almost translucent, and her arms grow long and become tipped in evil black talons. A third arm explodes from her chest. Yashai's head and torso merge into a single, serpentine mass as her legs ooze together to form a long tail, and altogether she seems to grow to several times her normal size.

No longer smiling in their triumph, Ulwe and Khelzhad are faced with an immense, pale worm. It is fat and glistening with slime, rising up on its thick lower half to brush the top of the tunnel eight feet above. Its head is little more than an eyeless maw filled with jagged fangs, surrounded symmetrically by three grotesque arms.

The transformation complete, the monster fills the tunnel from side to side and top to bottom.

[Hurrah!]

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Madragar, his mouth agape in sheer momentary startlement, struggles to shake off his surprise.
"Retreat," he says, with little conviction. "We must not be caught 'twixt that and the Kuralitai.
And with that, he intones the weird syllables of the Charm of Many Brothers and then follows in Draxim's wake.
Them fightin words!
[OOC; Go Draxim! Lets fight!]
Shocked by the sudden turn of events Atan grabs for an arrow. Knocking it to his bow in a fluid practiced motion Atan pauses for a fleeting moment intrigued by the fletchings pattern. A whorl of shades; brown, white and yellow, a pattern reminiscent of the owls that hunt on silent wings in the Thurgut crags.
With a sharp twang the draw is released and the arrow speeds onward.
"Back to the pit of Slaeg Gnara demon."
[OOC: Fires at Yashai/Giant demon worm. Uses a hero point to kill Yashai/auto crit or something.... ]
Short Composite Bow: +8 to hit ( does not includes magic arrow), 1d6+2 critical x3
+2 Arrow - Mist Falcon
Moderate: when fired becomes ethereal to anything not tainted by Chaos. Countered by force effects such as Mage Armor, but otherwise ignores cover bonuses, and AC granted by armor.
Moderate: Chaos Bane - (19-20, x4).
I think the total would be
+12 to hit (includes magic arrow), 3d6+5 critical x4
Feats: Point blank Shot, Precise Shot
Re: Them fightin words!
Madragar splits into four identical images of himself [3 images, 1 real McCoy] and hustles west, just getting to the top of the staircase.
In the shop above, the startling explosion of Draxim into the midst of the kuralitai is followed by Yashai's blood curdling howl from below. The combination of terrors is too much for the Olmani tribesmen to bear and they shove their way out of the shop and into the street. One nimble guard even goes through a window. Many of the kuralitai leave their lanterns behind, some perched precariously on piles of dry parchment and crates filled with straw.
Draxim, filled with bloodlust, prepares to go after them to complete the rout, but stops short as something large pushes its way through the throng. It is a man, standing head and shoulders over the fleeing kuralitai. He is clad in finely crafted chain that covers not only his torso and limbs but his face as well. A dull curtain of mail hangs from his steel helmet covering all but his eyes, and the deep brown skin that surrounds them. In one hand he grips a large oval shield, and in the other a gleaming shortsword. In the flickering lantern light, Draxim has no doubt that he faces an Imperial legionnaire, and one that he has faced before.
The legionnaire strides into the center of the room and declares "araaal ushan, Draxeem," before rapping his shield twice with his burnished blade, indicating his readiness to fight.
The battle continues in the tunnel below...
Khelzhad lays a quick charm on his weapon, causing it to glow like it was taken freshly from the forge.
Atan isn't sure where the great white worm's internal organs are, or even if it has internal organs, but he makes his best guess and fires the perfect arrow straight into the creature's head-like area. To his horror, however, the arrow passes right through the grotesque beast and out the other side, ricocheting off the roof of the tunnel and bouncing down its length to disappear into darkness far to the east.
[When fired the Mist Falcon becomes incorporeal to anything that is not tainted by Chaos. The giant worm that was so recently Yashai is, apparently, not tainted by Chaos so passed right through her. Ironically, it would have affected her when she was incorporeal, but now that she's not it won't. It's a flukey situation so I decree that Atan does not expend a Hero Point on such a useless act.]
Re: Them fightin words!
"Your accent is terrible, and how do you know my name? What's Yours? Never mind, I'll get it off your commision*." (Draxim is referring to the imperial commission which gets returned to the cohort commander as proof of a legionairre's death. These are typically engraved copper placards which serve as prized gambling prizes in the taverns of Dobrug.)
Draxim goes to a ready stance to return the legionaire's sporting gesture, then attacks. The adrenaline still pumping from the blessing of Urox, he attacks with unusual speed.
[+7 to hit, 2d6+6, Use heroic surge to attack twice. AC 18]
Re: Them fightin words!
[Actually, you do know his name. A nickel if you remember it.]
Draxim and the legionnaire square off, but the dwarf takes the initiative, immediately charging at his adversary. The Lunar makes a quick thrust as Draxim advances [he had a held action] but the attack is swiftly dodged. Draxim's first blow cuts low, heading for the soldier's knee, but his massive shield knocks back the attack. In a blur of motion the greatsword rebounds off the parry and twists through the air to find the legionnaire's right arm. Chain links explode outward as the blade cuts into the muscle beneath [max damage... ouch]. Blood flows freely.
Re: Them fightin words!
Janes starts repeating a mantra of "Shit, shit, shit" has he tries to get to the trapdoor. He makes as if to aim his crossbow at the monsterous apperation but realizes that too many are in the way and wavers on firing.
[ I don't know these icons too well, can Janes get a shot off at Y without too much risk of hitting a friend? ]
[There's always a risk during combat, and Atan is providing some cover for the beast. The chances are slim that he would hit Atan though. -GM]
