Re: Them fightin words!
Janes quickly aims and fires at the not so distant monster to the east, and despite having to fire over Atan's head manages to land a hit. The bolt draws a rivulet of black blood down the back of the creature, but has little impact on the thing's tough hide.
Janes then moves toward the trapdoor. [Toward... how far is that?]
Ulwe and Khelzad brace for whatever horror the giant worm intends to visit upon them. Thoughts of being held fast by the beast's three grasping claws while having their intestines devoured by its dripping maw chill their blood. Yet, the worm does not advance.
Instead, the pale creature weaves from side to side, its claws dancing in the air, each forming complex patterns not disimilar from those that Madragar makes when he is evoking some mystical incantation. The worm's massive, fang-lined mouth, however, does nothing but drip saliva in long, sticky strands. That is, until Yashai's spell is complete. The filthy maw then opens and expels a wave of pure darkness - a malignant mass of vile corruption that streaks down the tunnel and strikes Ulwe full in the chest.
The elf screams in agony and staggers backward, his fall broken by the ever helpful Khelzhad. Ulwe's skin quickly fades to a corpse-like shade of pale blue, his spear shaking in his feeble grasp.
[Note to Ulwe.]

Re: Them's fightin words!
Madragar remembers the Legionnaire's amazing ability to lunge (Piercing Thrust), but decides to take the risk any, given his Charm of Many Brothers. He moves past Draxim to a point north of the western door (SW-SW-SW-S) and bids the Olmani warriors to sleep.
Sleep spell, centered on #14.
[The legionnaire hasn't had time to set his feet to take advantage of Piercing Thrust yet. In any case, he wouldn't want to give Draxim a free hack - see the Reach Weapon thread in the General Discussion forum. -GM]

Re: Them's fightin words!
[Upon his turn]
Pausing for a moment, in confusion, at the transformation of Yashai into this giant and hedious beast, however the confusion lasts only as long as it took for the beast to cast its spell. Seeing the devistation this creature has caused, Pogar will start running down the hall to fight this creature. With a booming voice, Pogar calls out to Janes "MOOOVE" as he takes his axe and throws it with all his might at the worm, silently praying to any god that will listen to him, praying for his aim to be true. In one fluid motion he will unsheath the Gleaming Sword nearly slicing through his leather belt.
(using hero point)
[What exactly is Pogar intending to accomplish with the Hero Point? -GM]

Re: Them's fightin words!
[Madragar has to go one west first to reach the trapdoor.]
The tatoo'd wizard leaps up out of the tunnel and rushes past Draxim and his adversary. Try as he might, Madragar passes quite close to the legionnaire as he moves around the staircase.
[Madragar ran through Qulzul's threatened area, the square NW of the legionnaire. Without using Piercing Thrust he still gets an AoO.]
The soldier lashes out at Madragar, but only manages to tag one of his phantom images. The wizard has two left. Ignoring the threat, Madragar peeks through the open back door of the shop and notices at least a half dozen more kuralitai than he was expecting. In for a pound, his hands quickly draft a swirling pattern in the air and six of the Olmani tribesmen sink slowly to the ground, fast asleep.
Down below, Pogar bellows "Move!" Janes, who is already behind him, doesn't need to get out of the way but Atan does. The elf pushes himself against the side of the tube, long enough for Pogar to rush past. Whipping the deadly Grinningblade from his waist, the dwarf hurls his poorly balanced battleaxe at Yashai.
Impossibly, the weapon spins end over end, its keen edged axehead burying itself in the beast's back. [Hero Point gets you an automatic critical success, which for a battleaxe is x3 damage... plus Pogar's strength bonus x3 for a thrown weapon.]
Black blood explodes from Yashai's rubbery white flesh. The monster howls in torment and thrashes against the sides of the tunnel like a worm on a hook. It's three long appendages reach for the improbable projectile in vain, desperate to get the weapon out of its flesh.

Re: Them's fightin words!
Janes finds that he's got a few more yards in his legs and bounds up from the tunnel and reaches the landing on the staircase leading to the second floor of the shop.
Ulwe contemplates the icy grip of death...
Qulzul recovers quickly from Draxim's brutal blow to his arm and eagerly thrusts his shortsword into the dwarf's thigh. Another cascade of mail links and blood decorates the floor as the legionnaire maneuvers to his right.
The repeated howls of the unnatural beast in the tunnel urges the kuralitai to continue their retreat. To the east at least a dozen more of the red-clad guardsmen gather in the street, shaken but not leaving the field just yet. To the west, a similar number of the Olmani tribesmen gather in the pouring rain, unsure as to the fate of their six comrade sleeping soundly by the back door.
Madragar has a good view of both groups, and surmises that it would take but a nudge either way to send them fleeing into the night, or to find their courage and reenter the shop looking for blood.

There seems to be an axe in your back.
[OOC: Go Pogar!]
Atan rebounds off the wall slightly to land almost back in the same spot before Pogar rushed by. Atan watches as the improbable axe buries itself deep into the worms hide before begining to place arrow after arrow down the tunnel.

Re: Them's fightin words!
Ulwe vomits noisily in the narrow tunnel. Nausea overwhelms the priest. Shaking with fear and intense sickness from the draining attack of Yashai, Ulwe steadies himself with his spear. He concentrates briefly to direct the Spiritual Weapon to attack the beast, as he backs up the tunnel. With whatever strength he has left, Ulwe hurls his enchanted Javelin at the monster.
[Moves 30' away from Yashai, attacks with the Spiritual Weapon, and hurls the +2 Javelin at her/it.]

Re: Them's fightin words!
Atan quickly draws, aims and fires. The first arrow disappears into a mass of black goo dripping down the worm's back, only its fletchings remain visible. His second arrow is on target, but can't penetrate the thing's hide.
Ulwe, extremely unstable after his brush with death, hurls the Swan Maiden with all his might. The missile seems to leap from his grasp and plunges into Yashai's belly. The beast continues to writhe and thrash, spreading even more blood across the floor of the tunnel.
[Two hero points vanish in the ether. Anyone else want to throw one?]

Khelzhad's heart sinks along with his friend Ulwe as the dark miasma does its worst, but his emotion quickly turns to rage as he knows the only way to save him will be to dispatch the beast before him.
'Wyrmslayer!", he yells again as he lifts the keen longsword above his head and closes with the monstrosity.

Stay on target
[ I had another post, but then I read the other posts a little closer ]
Janes rushes up the trapdoor and moves to get into a position to support Pogar (?) against Quzul (?). He'll be drawing his short sword as he moves.

Re: Them fightin words!
Draxim shrugs at the slice in his thigh, "I've had worse" he concludes. He renews his attack with vigor knowing that his opponents sword arm must be getting weak from strain, loss of blood and severed muscle tissue. The giant Duregar blade, easily a foot longer than the diminutive fire plug arcs down through a circuit of way more than 90 degrees and....

Re: Dobrug, Part II
Madragar is just about out of spells...but they don't know that. "Wizardry is about power...and the illusion of power," his master taught him.
Grinning evilly, Madragar withdraws an iron scroll from his pouch and intones the eldritch phrases etched upon its verdigrised surface. Crackling electricity runs up his arms from his fists as the scroll crumbles into rust.
"Now," he says to the Kuralitai. "Let the lesson begin!"
(OOC: At this point, Madragar uses a Hero Point to try to extend the power of the Shocking Grasp spell, making it into an area attack, like Burning Hands)
With a snarl, thrusts his hands forward, releasing a flurry of electric arcs, hoping this display will be enough to frighten the rest into flight.
(OOC: The scroll is written at 5th level.)

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[Knuckleheads...]
Again Ulwe's spiritual weapon strikes out, a mote of wrath from the Wind God. The glowing spear jabs viciously at the worm and cuts a ragged wound in its hide.
[Presumably, Khelzhad moves 15' to the west instead of 10' to the east, in order to attack Yashai.]
The Ghuraskalli bard slides past Ulwe and charges headlong into the writing mass of black blood and pale flesh. The worm hisses in challenge, but Khelzhad comes in low, driving his glowing blade into the thing's belly. Yashai's howling becomes constant as the many wounds in its body continue to bleed.
Then, with a mighty heave of her body, Yashai throws her bloodied, three-armed head at the wall of the tunnel. Fully expecting the worm to bounce harmlessly off the stone wall, Khelzhad and Pogar are stunned to see the beast pass into the rock like an eel slithering through water. The weapons protruding from her bleeding hide (Pogar's axe, Ulwe's javelin, Atan's arrow and Janes' bolt) all hit the stone wall and, unlike Yashai, go no further, sliding harmlessly to the floor of the tunnel. In a heartbeat the monster disappears into the solid stone foundation of the town.
[Janes is already upstairs, and can assist Draxim, not Pogar. The icons on the map match up with the icons to the right of each person's message on the board.]
Janes bounds across the room and goes toe to toe with the legionnaire. [And I guess that's it.]
Draxim continues his assault, making a series of brutal thrusts with his greatsword at Qulzul's face and sword arm. The soldier parries furiously, but receives a cut along his scalp. Crimson flows down his face and into the links of his mail coif.
At the back door of the shop, Madragar thrusts his hands, thumbs touching, out into the rain. The dozen or so kuralitai gathered in the courtyard look at him with curiosity and apprehension. The wizard's mind races through the myriad possibilities of what he is about to attempt. The scroll itself is beyond his ability, though slightly, so the chance of a backfire is modest. But combining two spells into one on the spot, selecting the desired attributes of each, isn't a lesson Edrigan ever considered teaching his apprentice. Somewhere out in the Spirit World, long dead wizards watch with interest.
A twenty foot wide fan of electrical energy bursts forth from Madragar's outstretched fingers, racing across the courtyard to envelop the front rank of the kuralitai. White strands of lightning dance between the raindrops and a crash of thunder shakes the walls of the town. The tribesmen curse loudly in shock and pain as the deadly energy courses through their bodies. A chorus of clattering steel follows as a half dozen scimitars hit the cobblestones. The whole mass of the kuralitai in the courtyard rush southward, fleeing at their best possible speed.
The six kuralitai by the back door of the shop continue to sleep, despite the thunderous crash and the rain hitting their faces.
Madragar stands tall with pride, then notices the pain in his fingers which are still crackling with electricity. The bald wizard yelps, franticly looking around for something to ground himself on while vigorously shaking his electrified hands. Madragar quickly grabs the door jam, safely discharging the painful energy, then sighs loudly.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[Did Yashai leave a tunnel?]
Not allowing himself the luxury of amazement or awe at the sight of an otherwolrdly-worm swimming through rock as slippery as an eel, Ulwe summons a reserve of energy and dashes forward. He nearly leaps over the Ghuraskalli cousins in his way, as he makes for the exit. Pausing for a moment to fetch his javelin, and Atan's arrow, he continues his sprint out of the tunnel. Like some baton race challenge, he passes the enchanted arrow to Atan on his way out.

Re: Dobrug, Part II
[Yashai disappeared into the rock, as I described. Atan's normal arrow is there, but Mist Falcon is probably a hundred feet to the east, down the tunnel where he shot it.]
Ulwe races west and quickly reaches the bottom of the staircase.
Above, the duel continues. The legionnaire crouches low before delivering a brutal thrust to Draxim's midsection. The dwarf grunts as the weapon pierces his mail and cuts into the flesh beneath. A wave a nausea passes over him, but Draxim is still in the fight.
The legionnaire retreats a step and shouts some orders at the kuralitai gathered in the street [in Olmani, which no one upstairs understands]. The tribesmen respond by approaching the door and window of the shop. Most of them are unwilling to commit the the attack, so simply gather around the openings with their shields and scimitars at the ready. A few, however, raise recurve bows of wood and horn, and let fly with a trio of barbed arrows.
One missile thumps into the wooden wall of the shop, but the other two find their targets. Janes is struck in the shoulder, the arrowhead burying itself in the mass of muscle tissue there. Equal parts barkeep and warrior, Janes staggers back a step, grimacing in pain.
Draxim is also hit. At such close range the powerful Olmani bows launch their missiles with great force, strong enough to punch through mail. The arrow catches Draxim in the calf, adding to his already not insignificant wounds.
[Janes is moderately wounded. Draxim is seriously wounded. Ulwe hasn't been struck, but has had most of his life force drained away. He is a fraction of his former self.]

[On turn]
Pogar will slowly stalk up to the wall where his weapon of choice has slid down and lays to rest. Keeping his eyes on the wall where the beast disapeared, Pogar is prepared to jump out of the way from an anticipated attack through the wall, Pogar wants his axe. Once he retrieves the axe, he will move off to the trap door to aid in the battle upstairs.

As Ulwe sprints to the exit, a slightly disappointed Khelzhad calls after: "Where are you going? We have her on the run!" However the priest of Orlanth is quickly up the stairs and out, so the dwarf trots along after.
