Re: Off we go...
"Father Brae! Ulwe! I have been poisoned! Can you do anything for me?"
[How far does that protection from earth elementals extend from Brae again?]
[It doesn't. Everyone in the group has Protection from Evil cast on them which keeps summoned creatures from coming within 1 foot of them. This protection is blown, however, if you attack the creature, or try to force the barrier of protection into them. -GM]
[So I don't have to stay within a certain distance from Brae to keep the effect?]
"Brae, what is to keep us from walking right by that lump o' rock?"
[The elemental is big enough that any attempt to push by it would cancel the protective effect of the spell. -GM]

Re: Off we go...
Atan uses his torch in hand to further drive the creature backwards.
"Drive the darkleetch back for back we can not go!"
[OOC: Always the hero! Atan moves 2 SW and 1 SE without falling into the darkleetch.
AC 18 (16 studded leather +2 protection from evil)
+5 to hit (+4 base +1 bless spell)
Protection from Evil: +2 AC and +2 on all saving throws versus evil creatures. Immune to possession. Immune to attacks from summoned creatures.
Bless: +1 to hit, +1 on saving throws versus fear to all within 50 feet of Brae.
Endurance: +4 Constitution (rolled once for simplicity). +2 hit points per level and +2 to Fortitude saves.
Greater Magic Weapon: +3 hit and damage for 20 arrows.]

Re: Off we go...
Sidestepping Draxim's flaming blanket, Atan moves aggressively against the darkleech. The elf prods the massive ooze with his torch then steps through the doorway and back into the altar room.
Instantly the darkleech lashes out at him with a thick black pseudopod, striking him in square in the chest. Acidic black goo sprays over Atan's neck and wisps of toxic vapor fill his nostrils. Recoiling, the elf stumbles back against the wall, his toes just inches from the writhing blob of corruption.

Re: Off we go...
Steping foward, Pogar will light a torch and toss it at the front of the black Ooze, hoping to push it away from Atan, so that he can move forward and drag Atan back to the group.

"Mind yourself dwarf, trying to kill us both? Think. Which of our two oppenents can we kill?"
[OOC: Did Atan hit the darkleech?
And if Pogar tries to manhandle Atan so close to the darkleetch Atan will fight to keep his balance and keep Pogar off him. If Pogar falls into the darkleech so be it.

Re: Off we go...
Janes will lean back a little to see if the stone monster is being kept at bay from the ward. If that seems to be true then he'll wait patiently for everyone to get out of his way, if not then he'll start his mental list of all the things to do if he gets out of here alive.

Re: Off we go...
Pogar lights a torch and throws it at the darkleech, hoping to force it back further from the door and Atan. The dwarf then advances as the black ooze retreats and considers dragging Atan back to the group, but remains undecided [mainly because he was trying to do too much in his Standard Action.]
Janes isn't sure whether or not Brae's prayer will protect him, but for the moment the stone creature isn't moving.
Brae quickly turns to face Draxim and, seeing the slick purple goo dripping from the arrow he holds, moves swiftly to the dwarf's side. While keeping an eye on the retreating darkleech, Brae begins rummaging through his satchel.

Into the Wild Blue Yonder
As soon as the darkleech retreats enough to form a path past it, Madragar will move through, dropping a second lit torch to keep the creature at bay.

Khelzhad maintains his rearguard position and waits for the others to file out.
[Holding action, still looking at the door from which came the voice that apparently commands the elemental]

While Brae works on the wound, Draxim fishes out a spare sack and gets it burning.

Re: Off we go...
Pogar, momentaraly undecided finally comes to a conclusion. Pogar will let Atan be. "Impetuious elfs" Pogar thinks to himself. Concerning himself with the destruction of this creature, Pogar will ready another makeshift torch. Wary of the archer who is taking popshots at the group, Pogar will keep an eye out for the elusive sniper.

Re: Off we go...
Brae fishes a slender silver flask from his satchel and grins in triumph at having located the elusive item. Draxim is in the middle of trying to ignite a canvas sack, and not having much luck, when Brae grabs his arm and inspects the wound briefly. Then, after taking a moment to study the dwarf's eyes, Brae turns away declaring "bah, you're fine. Dwarves..."
With flaming leg bones in hand the companions continue to push the darkleech back. Finally, Pogar and Atan manage to herd the shuddering mass of ooze back into the southeastern corner of the altar room. The trauma it has received from repeated applications of fire appears to be having an unusual effect on the creature. In various spots on its undulating surface the darkleech seems to be solidifying, or at least entering a sort of torpor that slows its movement and causes the hissing, vaporous bubbles to cease.
Through the doorway to the south the crouching undead archer hisses something under breath and quickly retreats east, shutting the distant doorway behind her.
Suddenly a fierce glow shines in the eyes of the hulking stone elemental. With three great strides the thing charges Khelzhad and Janes, its massive fists raised to smash and rend their flesh to pulp. The Ghuraskalli dwarf almost, almost, fires his crossbow in defense, but resists the urge.
A subtle disturbance in the air a foot from Khelzhad's head reveals that Brae's prayer is still effective. The elemental's fists bouce harmlessly off the nearly invisible barrier, leaving the dwarf entirely unharmed. It's desire for violence confounded, the earthen monster roars in Khelzhad's face, its eyes blazing with malice.
[Draxim is lightly wounded. Atan is moderately wounded.]
[Go.]

Re: Off we go...
Ulwe fashions another torch from bones and old rags. He slings his shield on his back and in his left hand he holds his spear, while weilding the torch in his right. Using the brand to keep the darkleech at bay, he shuffles along with the rest of the group. He tries to keep his attention on the doorway as well. [Dodge focus on archer]

"Pogar and I will keep the leech at bay. Everyone else get that door open. Get a shield up front since we know that undead is most likely waiting on the other side. Then everyone follow in behind the shield as quickly as possible." Atan barks out.
[OOC: Atan will continue to herd the darkleech into a corner. ]

Pogar will hold the torch, poking it at the darkleech, but not getting close enough to allow the OOA.

Re: Off we go...
Having survived the test of fear, Khelzhad has full confidence in the righteousness of their cause. The sturdy Ghuraskalli fights the urge to taunt the thing lest it break the divine protection. He will be the last to exit the room, now completely focused on the doorway behind. "Cover me!", he says to the taller Janes as they do a backstep shuffle toward the door.
[move with the party to the southwest door, ready to shoot at the northeast door]
