Re: Off we go...
Draxim looks at Brae with some relief and some residual fear, "well if your sure...father". He hurries to slip past the ooze leaving the sputtering sack as fuel for the ooze minders, and begin his examination of the door on the far side. Realizing that unoiled rags don't burn forever, he forgoes any lengthy trap checking (although he does look for contact poison given recent history) and sets about getting the door open. If/when the door opens he prudently stands aside to afford himself a measure of cover against any arrows, quarrels or acidic puddings that might fly through.

Re: Off we go...
Madragar wonders if he can goad the two monsters into fighting each other. As he reaches the door, he turns and fires his crossbow into the Darkleech, not far from where the elemental stands (yet far enough to be sure of not hitting the elemental). Then he proceeds rapidly through the door.

Re: Off we go...
The companions begin to move south past the groping tentacles of the darkleech, with the menacing elemental right on Khelzhad's heels. The hulking earth creature looms over the dwarf, its massive rocky fists repeatedly pounding on the shimmering protective aura that surrounds him. Khelzhad finds his proximity to those bone breaking bludgeons more than a little distracting.

Draxim, Madragar, Ulwe and Brae all quickly slide by Atan and Pogar who continue to keep the heinous beast at bay. Madragar snaps off a shot at the thing with his crossbow but the bolt vanishes into the soupy mess without effect.

At the southern door, Draxim quickly inspects it for contact poison, then tries to the portal. It is unlocked and beyond it the dwarf surveys a larger chamber with a raised dais at its northern end. Cautiously he pokes his head out to get a good look at the chamber.

Back in the gallery to the north Khelzhad, just he before leaves the smokey chamber to rejoin his comrades, spots a blur of movement to the east. Yashai, no longer in her robes but clad in the tunic and trousers of an Olmani horseman, dashes south from the corridor from whence the elemental emerged. Khelzhad immediately fires his crossbow but the bolt just misses the vile sorceress. In a few long strides Yashai has crossed the room and, without missing a step, runs straight into the southern wall of the gallery.

A split second later she emerges again in the room that Draxim is observing after having passed through the solid stone wall. Draxim makes a half step as if to pursue, but reflexively dodges back into cover just before an arrow passes inches from his head. The projectile strikes the open door with a thud, its cargo of poisonous purple goo dripping down the aged wood of the portal. The arrow came from the south.

Re: Off we go...
Atan continues to wave his makeshift torch at the dark gelatinous mass, interdicting its psuedopods and impeeding its movement. As the party makes its way out of the room Atan brings up the rear.

[OOC: Atan will be the last out the room. He will let all the other party memebers act before he does his action.

Hold action ]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Madragar is magically protected from missiles. He steps past Draxim and enters the room, calmly leveling his crossbow at the evil sorceress.

"Lioness, the call you," he says. "I suppose that is because 'Disgusting Slug-Woman' doesn't have the same ring? Tell me, Yashai, when the horse-lords arrived, did you flee immediately? Or did you put up even a token resistance?"

Madragar fires.

Re: Off we go...
The moment Madragar steps out into the room he gets an arrow in the chest. The lithe form of the undead archer woman crouches in the doorway to the south and fires as soon as she has a target. Fortunately for the tatoo'd wizard, however, he is indeed immune and the projectile ricochets harmlessly into a far corner of the chamber.

His soliloquy concluded, Madragar raises his crossbow and pulls the trigger. Sadly, he failed to reload his crossbow after firing into the darkleech, so his gesture is entirely ineffective.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Though protected by Orlanth from the elemental's wrath, the terrifying sounds of the enraged spirit begin to wear on the bard's ears and he hums a tune to distract himself. But on seeing Yashai pass through the room and into the wall, his tune quickly becomes a call to rally:

"Wind of sea, horn of strength
Form up now our iron ranks
Age of wisdom, seed of life
Certain death for which we fight
From light of sun, we are one - to fight!
Companions of the Light!"

[Inspire Courage]

As his words echo through the catacombs, in their own hearts each member of the party feels Khelzhad's deep attachment to his dwarvish roots and the many strong hands and wise heads that have come and gone before them in the struggle against chaos. This feeling swells and permeates all of the Companions' senses with confidence and strength.

[Song of the Ancients: improves “inspire courage” to +4 morale bonus and +2 to attack and damage rolls, lasts as long as “inspire courage”.]

Re: Off we go...
Once the last passes by, besides atan, Pogar, feeling the swelling pride of his race fill his veins, will start towards the door. Dropping the flame into the creature, Pogar will set for battle, hoisting his shield on his arm and grabbing his trusty axe. Seeing Yashi pass through walls, Pogar only sneers.

Re: Off we go...
Feeling as well as hearing the surging rythyms of ancient blood stirred by Khelzhad's song, a vicious gleam develops in Draxim's eye to accompany the slight emotional tear welling there. Reminded of the new course his life has taken, his path lays clear before him. With spiritual fervor, Draxim rushes the the shapechanger intent on the moment of glory, not for himself, but for Urox.

Re: Off we go...
[The Bull Strength potion gave Draxim 3 points of Strength]

Draxim breaks from cover, his duergar greatsword held high. Bounding past Madragar, who is looking sheepishly at his unloaded crossbow, the dwarf lays into Yashai with gusto. Alas, the sorceress is incorporeal and his blade passes through her without effect.

Quote:
Atan! Mark down 2 Flasks of Holy Water. also your share of the treasure is 1471 gold!

He brings a sack full of eight small wooden boxes. Within each box is a apple-sized globe of blown glass filled with Holy Water. The clear glass is stoppered with cork and sealed with thick blue wax. Stamped in the wax is a small relief of three dolfins, created by Ulwe's signet ring.

"I bring to each of you the blessed Holy Water of Orlanth. Use it when faced with abominations of the walking dead and their ilk."

[each character gets a vial of Holy Water. Mark your sheets! If any are unclaimed, Ulwe will carry them.

[You DID mark it on your sheets didn't you? DIDN"T YOU?!!]

"The Holy Waters of Orlanth! Cast them at the archer!" Shouts Ulwe to his Companions Then he quckly realizes his vial(s) is sitting back at the Locamyridra and nearly screams with frustration. Instead he steps into the room brandishing his holy symbol at the undead archer and begins to chant prayers to turn the creature.

[Turn attempt]

Pogar, noticing Ulwe's chanting will remain on the defensive, protecting the elf from potential arrows that may come his way.

Re: Off we go...
Joining Draxim and Madragar in the dais room, Ulwe boldly steps forward and, grasping his shield and spear in the same hand, presents his gleaming holy symbol. The hissing archer's eyes, glowing yellow pits within her dessicated head, grow dim for a moment but she does not waver. The foul warrior in fact spits noisily at the priest and reaches into her quiver for another arrow.

Back in the chamber, Khelzhad and Atan are the last to leave the altar room. The darkleech is clearly weakened and slow to react as they retreat, though the elemental remains determined to cause them harm. Conveniently, as they move south the darkleech flows back into the center of the chamber, slowly pushing the southern door shut. Soon elemental and ooze are alone in the altar room.

Following the flow of bodies east, Brae shambles into the dais chamber to stand behind Ulwe. The old priest is a little disappointed by Ulwe's failure to turn the undead woman but, having seen her for the first time, is not surprised.

"Foul minion," Brae murmurs, his old fingers reaching up to grasp his own holy symbol. "She is a disciple of the Kurashk, young Ulwe, the Shadowrakers... abominable priests of Yelm that have turned to Chaos."

Regarding the undead with renewed interest, and loathing, Ulwe notices a small silver chain around the woman's neck upon which rests a bent and tarnished symbol of the sun god. The elf priest's revulsion is almost overwhelming.

"They have little fear of the wrath of the Lightbringers," Brae continues. "Besides, Yashai is our gravest concern. It is time she faced us in earnest."

The aged priest of Orlanth wraps his staff on the ground and mumbles a short prayer.

"Enough of your trickery, witch!" he then bellows and casts a wave of grey mist over her. Yashai grimaces with dread as the cloud swiftly passes over her and yelps with alarm as an array of her magical protections are dispelled.

"Test your blade now, Draxim," Brae chortles. "And see her flesh bleed like any other."

Setting his feet once again, Draxim grips his blade with renewed determination, eager to test Brae's claim.

Without hesitation Yashai turns on her heel and runs south through the doorway, nearly knocking the undead woman over in her haste. The archer, unwilling to face the advancing band of warriors alone, retreats along with her.

The chamber to the south appears largely empty. Yashai and the archer both head west.

Re: Off we go...
Draxim starts a swipe at the retreating back of Yashai, but then realizes she is already beyond his reach. "Cowards! We'll teach you to fear the wrath of the Lightbringers!" he yells after them. Knowing that his longer legged companions will soon catch him up anyway he moves 15' S and peaks around the corner to get his bearings, ready to jump back from the archers pestilent arrows. He doesn't neglect to look in the other direction as well, once he establishes that he is safe from the Shadowraker's servant.

Re: Off we go...
Atan starts troting eager to catch up to Yashai.

"She pushes us forward with an rock beast at our backs, then flees before us. An Olmani horsemen tactic? Be ready."

[OOC: Atan has to do a double move to get into the room to the south. Then peaks around the corner.

Movement: 1 SE, 3 S, 1 SE, 1 E, 1 S

Do I taste a Mongolian flavor to this adventure?

Khelzhad keeps the warsong going on the hunt:

"Rise up ye children of the sun
Fleetly now the shadows run
So sure as day will follow day
Darkness comes but cannot stay
Under earth or under sky - to fight!
Companions of the Light!"

[move 20' with the party, continue chanting]
[I'll get Khelzhad's move on the next map update. -GM]

Re: Off we go...
[Perhaps if you've got fermented yogurt and horse blood in your mouth.]

Atan and Draxim rush the door to the south and, shoulder to hip, peek into the chamber. There are two exits from the room: a corridor to the east and a doorway to the west. Yashai and the archer have already reached the doorway, but it is what is coming out of the portal that grabs Atan and Draxim's attention.

A pair of hulking behemoths, clearly once human but swollen to grotesque proportions, plod clumsily toward them with massive, bone-crushing mauls clutched in their meaty fingers. Clumps of grave soil still cling to the stringy hair of the brutes and though unarmored their flesh has the look of tough, old gray leather. Although their movements seem ponderous and slow, the twin monsters' eyes gleam with the same sickly yellow glow that the archer woman bore. They are clearly more than just mindless undead.

"Kill them!" Yashai screeches as she dives past the two abominations. "There is no way out but through them. Kill!"
