Re: Off we go...
Draxim is blessed with a tactical inspiration, no doubt bestowed by the God of War himself (or one of his minions). "Back through the door and stand! We can fight them one at a time. They're too large to both fit through at once." So saying, Draxim steps back past Atan and prepares to meet the charge of the "malignant mishappen mobile monstrosities". The group is beginning to get a good idea of what Draxim's father was like. Draxim's vocabulary is never so eloquent as when describing an opponent to his face.
[5' NW. That should complete my movement action and still leave me a standard action to whack them if they come in range.]
[whoops didn't see Pogar's move. ]

Ulwe casts detect poison. Then he examines the door next to him, if clean, he will open it.

Re: Off we go...
Ulwe, after giving the nearby portal the once-over, grasps the door handle and gives it a push. The light emanating from Brae's helmet washes into the small chamber, illuminating a virtual abattoir of blood and gore. The room appears to have been an isolated mausoleum with a single sarcophagus in the center. Yet, Yashai and her companions have clearly used it for another purpose.
Slumped atop the sarcophagus lies a naked pile of flesh, blood, and exposed bone. Ulwe recognizes the body instantly as that of the Grovewarden Erithwen, missing since he and Domun left Janes' tavern a few days ago. Long, sharp iron tools and other implements of torture lay strewn about, decorated with fresh crimson blood. Erithwen appears quite dead.

Re: Off we go...
Madragar loads his crossbow and moves into the room, trying to set up a firing angle where his companions will not provide the undead with cover.
[Can you be more specific on where, exactly, Madragar moves? -GM]
[The only position in the room he can get to. The square adjacent to and east of Pogar.]
[Hmm. Now that I look at it, he could get to the square west of Pogar, too, but that'd take him into melee. So, east it is. - El Guapo]

Re: Off we go...
Hearing Draxims tactical plan, and seeing that he is alone, Pogar shakes his head. Images of glory dance through his head, of one monster dropping its head as Pogar fights through the beast. Pogar instinctively moves to fight these beasts himself, yet thinks better of it. Pogar will back away through the door heeding Draxims idea.

Swell. Madragar is alone in the room.
"The minions are nothing!" he shouts over his shoulder. "They serve only to impede us from our quarry, the sorceress. Forward! Forward! Seize her!"

Re: Off we go...
[Luckily for Madragar, Pogar took a "full move" to get where he is now, so can't back up.
As for explicit movement orders, I need them because a PC's exact location can be critical. There may be traps. There may be incoming area of effect spells. I don't want to have to guess where a PC ends up after their move. So, I won't.
From now on, if you don't give me explicit instructions for what your PC does during the round then your PC does nothing.
These are OK:
- Bob moves south, ending his move just east of Stan. He then fires his bow at zombie #3.
- Bob lights a torch and moves NW, N, N, N, NW, keeping an eye on the trap door.
- Bob moves his full 70' due north.
Not OK:
- Bob enters the room and shoots a zombie.
I like and appreciate the narrative embellishments people are posting along with their orders. But the orders themselves have to be specific. Putting them at the end in brackets, isolating the OOC game-speak is fine too. Just as long as I don't have to make guesses that might get your character killed.]

Re: Off we go...
The two massive brutes shamble forward, their filthy, ragged clothing unchanged since the day of their burial except for the clinging remnants of grave muck, and the slow decay of time. The four foot long clubs they wield are thick and lined with iron studs, stained with the dried blood of their past victims.
The one on the right [#3] speaks to his twin.
"Ignore the skinny human. Kill the dwarf."
Together, the two abominations mercilessly pound on Pogar. Their massive cudgels rise and fall again and again as they try to smash the dwarf into pulp. Pogar parries as best he can and manages to avoid the worst of their attacks. He certainly feels the aid granted him by Brae's protective spells coming into play.
Madragar, relieved at not being the focus of the duo's wrath, is suddenly faced with a new adversary. Stepping out from the passage to his left, another Shadowraker quickly assesses the situation in the chamber and hurls an axe at him. The weapon is true and hits Madragar squarely in the hip. His magic holds firm, however, and the missile bounces off harmlessly.
The newcomer curses in frustration at the ineffectiveness of his attack. Like his brethren, this creature is unarmored and dressed in the tattered remains of his burial clothes. His eyes gleam yellow with malice and, hunched over almost in a crouch, slowly waves a leaf bladed shortsword before him.
To the west Yashai continues her retreat while the archer woman takes cover and draws another arrow. For the moment she doesn't fire, but keeps her eye out for any available targets.
To the north Janes listens as the elemental's pounding on the far door slows, then finally ceases altogether.
Map.

Re: Off we go...
Pogar, still feeling the effects of the song, thanking the gods for the protection.
Glory fills his mind, the fallen brethren he originally was quested to find fills his brain. The crushing blows ring off his wooden shield and Pogar does what he can to deflect the attack. Pogar finally is tired of being on the defensive, "an undwarvly trait" and moves to the offensive.
[Attack #4]

Re: Off we go...
[Note that Khelzhad's song and Brae's Bless both give morale bonuses that do not stack. In this case, Khelzhad's song gives the greater bonus, so trumps the Bless.]
Pogar crouches low and covers his head with his shield, easily blocking the brutes' clubs. His battleaxe aglow with Orlanth's divine power, and Khelzhad's song echoing in his ears, Pogar finds it very difficult to miss his target. The enchanted axe cuts into the monster's thigh and strikes the bone beneath. Pogar is sure - he feels, in fact - the abomination's thigh bone break from his powerful chop. Yet, the thing does not fall, or even register the wound.
Perhaps the spine, Pogar muses.

Feeling his trusty axe cut through the flesh of the beast, bloodlust fills his viens. Pogar will continue to hack at beast number 4.

Re: Off we go...
Watching as the shambling monster lumbers into view Atan grabs another arrow from his quiver.
“More firepower” he quips.
Placing the second arrow next to an already knocked arrow he levels the bow and lets them fly.
[OOC: Atan shoots twice over the dwarves at undead #4.
Short Composite Bow: +11 to hit ( +4 base, +3 dex, +1 within 30 feet, +3 GMW, +2 Song of the Ancients, -2 Rapid Shot), 1d6+8 (+1 within 30 feet, +3 GMW, +2 Song of the Ancients, +2 Mighty bow) critical x3
Feats: Point blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot
AC 18 (16 studded leather +2 protection from evil)
Spells and Effects
Protection from Evil: +2 AC and +2 on all saving throws versus evil creatures. Immune to possession. Immune to attacks from summoned creatures.
Bless: +1 to hit, +1 on saving throws versus fear to all within 50 feet of Brae.
Endurance: +4 Constitution (rolled once for simplicity). +2 hit points per level and +2 to Fortitude saves.
Greater Magic Weapon: +3 hit and damage for 20 arrows.
Song of the Ancients: improves “inspire courage” to +4 morale bonus and +2 to attack and damage rolls, lasts as long as “inspire courage”.]]

Re: Off we go...
Khelzhad barely manages to keep the rhythm of the song through all the movement and he pauses in the dais room as the sounds of combat resume in the southern door. "Companions of the Light - to fight!", he urges them on while he takes a knee and, placing his crossbow on the ground he shrugs the steel shield off of his shoulder to get at the sack of items underneath. As he continues the song, the Companions at the front realize that he is not only singing for courage, but is now also calling out a plan of sorts as he pulls items out of the sack and hands them to Ulwe for transportation to the front:
"Here, for Madragar, a crafty spell
speak the words and use it well
for Captain Atan, keenest eye
holy water from Orlanth high
Fight my brothers, do not slack
We shall avail or not go back
Onward, onward, press the attack - to fight!
Companions of the Light!"
[Staying put for the moment, Khelzhad retrieves and hands to Ulwe a stone disk scroll of Hypnotic Pattern (7th) and a wooden box with a holy water grenade.]

Quote: "Ignore the skinny human. Kill the dwarf."
<Cockney waif accent> Lor' bless you, Mister Unclean Spirit, sir! Very kind! </cockney waif accent>
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Madragar doesn't have time to be indignant. He moves fast, yelling "Don't slow down, you Champions! Yashai is all!".
With a whispered prayer to Hroldi, Madragar moves after Yashai with a full move.
[OOC: S-S-S-W-W-W-NW-W-W-SW-SW. This should place him immediately north of Yashai. Unfortunately, this will draw attacks of opportunity from #4 and #2, unless they have already attacked. Fortunately, he should still have one mirror image up.]
[Does Yashai seem badly injured?]
[EDIT - Sorry, Mike. It was a darned good idea, but I didn't see it before I wrote this. Madragar is an impulsive sort. Claps for Chaos.]
Re: Off we go...
[The dwarves still provide cover to the undead from Atan's bow, though he doesn't also suffer a -4 penalty for firing into combat because of Precise Shot. That's -4 to hit for 1/2 cover.]
Atan's first arrow, carried along by the hand of the Wind Lord himself, smashes into the brute's head just above his right eye. The quivering missile protrudes from its head like a dead stick from an old stump, but the monster refuses to go down. Another arrow catches it in the throat, cutting a neat wound in its flesh and blasting bits of bone out the back. The Shadowraker disciple weaves unsteadily for a moment, then collapses in a motionless heap.
[A good idea indeed, the Hypnotic Pattern. Alas, Undead are immune to mind-affecting magic. Ulwe, at least, would know this.]
[Madragar's Mirror Image expired long ago, only lasting one minute per level. He does, however, have an array of other magical protections that may help. Maybe.]
The skinny human wizard makes a reckless run for Yashai. The club-swinging undead beast nearby falls to the ground before getting a chance to strike at him.. The archer woman tracks his headlong rush and again fires on Madragar, the arrow thudding into his abdomen and falling to the stone floor without effect.
Madragar then runs right by the archer who, loathe to strike at him with her bow, lets him pass. This brings him right on Yashai's heels as she flings open a door into a chamber to the south. The wizard's darkvision reveals that yet another Shadowraker disciple stands just beyond the door, and looked to be in the process of getting on his armor when Yashai arrived.
[Atan is moderately wounded.
Draxim is lightly wounded.]
Re: Off we go...
After Ulwe looks into the torture chamber and sees his friend dead and mutilated, he shouts an unintelligble curse. He shakes with rage and does not notice Khelzhad's offerings. With long strides he brings the battle to the Companions' foes. The knot of bodies blocking the doorway does little to impede the elf's progress, as he dexterously bounds to the attack. Sidestepping Pogar and his hulking adversary, Ulwe levels his spear and moves to the attack the Shadow-Wracker wielding the short sword.
[1SE, 2S, 2SE 30' total to be 1NW from #5]
[+11 to hit (+3 melee bonus, +2 Str, +3 Greater magic weapon, +2 Song of Ancients, +1 Divine Favor) D8 +8 Dam (+2 Str, +3 Greater magic weapon, +2 Song of Ancients, +1 Divine Favor)
AC 24 (Dodge focus on #5, Protection from Evil)
Re: Off we go...
[OOC: Madragar is so scroll-heavy he could open his own stationer's office. This is, after all, a guy who spent all winter doing nothing but preparing scrolls. Most of those scrolls are the type to benefit his companions (no time to cast just now!) Most of the rest are either non-combat or simply not right for taking down an arcane spellcaster. Hypnotic pattern, for instance, uses a Will save, something Yashai is doubtless good at. Spells with a Reflex or Fortitude save would be a lot better.]
[I've got a plan. It is not, unfortunately, nearly clever enough to call a weasel, whiskers or no. So I could use some heavy-hitters to the fore!]
