Re: Dobrug, Part III
Armed and wary of attack, the group moves through the western door and into a shabby chamber full of debris. It is clear that the Kurashk maintained none of the trappings of the living.

Then, moving on, they come at last to the door behind which Sangraal believes the remaining Shadowraker is hiding: Brother Ithmond. Pogar and Draxim form up before the door with Sangraal and Ulwe on either side of them. Atan, Janes, Madragar, and Khelzhad all load their weapons and stand poised to fire a deadly volley into the room.

Draxim slowly reaches out, turns the handle, and pushes the door. On rusty hinges the portal swings open to reveal an empty chamber... at least empty of enemies. A stout wooden table stands in the center of the room bearing a bowl of black iron filled with water.

Pogar, well within his idiom, boldly strides through the door.

"Ha! The fool has run off, eh? What a chick- BLAH!"

The dwarf is suddenly on his guard and, taken by surprise, staggers back against the table before regaining his balance. Draxim bursts into the chamber with Sangraal and Ulwe close behind, ready to face the new threat. Yet within the room nothing moves.

A lone figure stands in the corner to the left of the door. It is female in shape, though its entire body is covered in strips of black leather like some kind of demented burial shroud. Even the woman's face is completely covered. The exception, however, are her hands which are pale like moonlight. She stands motionless under the companions' gaze.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Realizing that this strange woman bears a remarkable resemblance to the vision Atan had in Raven's Gate, Ulwe asks his kin in elven: "Have you seen this before?"

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Pogar, ready for a fight at the drop of a hat, is definately taken back but this image in front of him.
"What in the nine hells is that thing?" Pogar asks no one in particular. "Is she alive?"

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Atan, remembering that horrible night in Ravensgate after his escape from two days of torture and incarceration, simply nods at Ulwe.

For Pogar, he has no answer.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Noting Atans nod, and thinking it was in response to his question, steps forward to attack, yet, nagging in his good concious is the pale stare that Atan is locked in. Normally a confident leader, Atan seems shake for a moment, which causes Pogar's normal confidence to waver for a moment. Pogar will stand still and wait for any movement from this creature.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Not knowing of Atan's fearful vision, when Khelzhad enters the room and beholds the bound figure his first feeling is of pity, that some unfortunate daughter of Dobrug has been so tortured by the evil Kurashk. Still cautious, crossbow in hand he stands just out of arms reach and addresses the prisoner.

"Can you hear me? Hark, can you hear me?", he says first in the common tongue, then in Olmani. "Move ye fingers if ye can hear me", implores the bard.

If there is no answer, Khelzhad will reach out with his left hand for the right hand of the figure, feeling for the warmth of life.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Khelzhad approaches and addresses the strange figure, yet gets no reply or reaction. Moving a bit closer, the bard reaches out his hand but recoils quickly when the woman's head slowly turns to face him, the old black leather creaking eerily. He does notice, however, that her pale skin is not skin at all. It's marble.

"The Golem!" Exclaims Ulwe. "It was Yashai's prize she was fearful of leaving it behind."

Hearing this, Madragar enters and examines the statue. He seeks any clue as to how to activate or motivate the creature.

Aghast at the discovery, Khelzhad wracks his mind for any tales regarding golems.

[any Bardic Knowledge on this type of creature?]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
While Khelzhad scratches his beard, feverishly searching his memory for tales of golems and other constructs, Madragar takes a closer look at the thing. He manages to observe that the leather that covers the golem is sewn on such that it is not intended to be easily removed. Also, just below the end of the leather sleeves on its arms, the golem appears to have some sort of inscription carved into its surface. The details of these inscriptions are obscured by the leather, however.

Madragar observes the creature carefully, but at a small distance. As he grows more confident the wizard leans in, apparently, a bit too close. Much faster than one would expect a marble statue could move, even an animated one, the golem changes its stance to one more defensive, and both of its hands clench into fists. Leather creaks and stone scrapes against stone, but again the statue returns to its motionless state.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"Keep your distance, gentlemen," says Madragar, backing up a few inches. "This construct is programmed to defend itself. And it regards proximity as a threat."

"Draxim, you have sharp eyes. Can you see what is written there, just below the sleeves?"

His eyes filled with an almost childlike delight, Madragar turns to Atan and says, "A wonder. I could spend days studying this delightful find. But we cannot afford such a delay. Suffice it to say that it is very dangerous and not immediately amenable to inquiry. I propose that we move on, and return to study it later if possible."

"It must be destroyed." Says Ulwe "If we cannot find a way to control it that is. I believe it is this very consruct which attacked the Sword-Elder's Temple that fateful night in Raven's Gate."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Madragar smiles. "Such a thing is easier said than done. This is an eidolon arcane. It is far harder than the stone it appears to be. I do not think that such a thing is possible...at least not for we here. Far better that we learn it's secrets and turn it to our advantage."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"As usual, Lad" Pogar addresses the elf, "I disagree with you and I agree with baldy there" he points to Madragar with a smile. "I dont think that we have the time, nor energy to waste on that there. It appears, as Madragar said, defends itself, why waste time on it?"

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"Pogar I am older than you by many years. Do not call me lad. And as usual you are wrong. We must waste time on it because it is what Yashai prized even over her own life. This thing is incredibly powerful and can cause great misery and destruction in the wrong hands. We cannot simply leave it here."

Ulwe walks to the venerable Brae, careful not to antagonize the golem.

"Wise one, what shall we do with this construct?"

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"Now is not the time. Let us crush the Fallen then return. The golem as it is currently is not a threat. The warrior-priest chimes, trying to assuage further discussion.

"If it becomes a threat then we'll deal with it."

[OOC: Did sense Chaos +7 find anything? and are there any exits out of the room?

]

[Sangraal detected no taint of Chaos on the golem, though the bowl of water reeks of it. He does not see any obvious exits. -GM]
