Re: Dobrug, Part III
"When this thing becomes a threat again it will be too late."

[Are there any exits from this room? Is the bowl of water some religious effect of Ithmond? Is there anything radiating magic in this room besides the Companions posessions?]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Brae runs his hand over his head, fingers scratching into his white hair. The old priest stares at the golem for some time, lost in thought. Ulwe's question brings him out of his trance.

"Ah... yes... well, I don't see that much can be done about it. At least, the thing doesn't seem willing to let us carry it away, even if we could. What do you do with a cave bear in your kitchen?"

Re: Dobrug, Part III
The sea-elf senses the aura of the bow as well when Sangraal determines its foul tain. His nostrils flare and his mouth turns into a frown of distate as he then points at the bowl. "This I fear is some font of Salhuag's. We must destroy it."

[Does the Bowl radiate Magic as well as Chaos?]

[No. -GM]

In response to Brae, Ulwe says:

"I do not like the idea of leaving our flank exposed to this thing while we seek Ithmond. Is there no wards or curses which could be laid upon it?" asks Ulwe to the assembled spellcasters Brae, Madragar and Sangraal.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Noticing the lack of exits Atan takes his time staring at the walls looking for signs of a secret door.

[OOC: Spot +8 looking for discolored patches or crack patterns in the walls.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Sangraal smiles at Brae's humorous answer.

"If its a fight the shadowrakers want let it be on hollowed ground."

Producing his bronze sundial from under his tunic Sangraal begins chanting.

[OOC: Sangraal casts concencrate. Undead cannot be created within or summoned into a consecrated area., all undead -1 to hit, attacks, damage and saving throws. Good clerics are +3 to turn attempts in area. ]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"Perhaps we might set a guard over the eidolon, but I fear the guard could do little if one one came who had the power to activate it. If I could but read what is written there at her sleeves, I might more readily answer your question," says Madragar.

"Your instinct is entirely correct, of course. But there is little we can do. Every moment we delay debating this creature is another moment for the Shadowraker to gather its strength and prepare its defenses."

"There will be consequences, no matter which course we take, my friends. Ofttimes one must make a choice in the breach which is no more than which course seems the lesser evil. I deem that here and now, that is to carry this assault through, immediately. Tarry, and we may well be caught between the Shadowraker and this eidolon."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Atan circles the small chamber, looking carefully for any sign of a hidden passage. The only thing out of the ordinary he discovers is a narrow gap in the masonry a few feet off the ground in the southeast corner. He searches the vicinity for other gaps but finds none.

The gap is about a half inch wide and a foot high. Atan holds his hand up in front of it and notices there is a slight breeze passing through the narrow slit. Considering the stagnant atmosphere of the catacombs, it's likely the flow of air is coming from somewhere on the street above.

Atan's inspection draws the attention of the dwarves but they don't find anything new.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"It appears we have little choice but to surrender this prize to our foes. If we leave this thing here you know we shall see it again, and under more dire circumstances than now."

Ulwe knocks the bowl over with his shield, careful not to get any of the tainted water on him. Then he smashes the vessel with Galewing.

"Blazes!" He curses. With a sheepish look to Brae immediately afterwards. "Forgive me Reverend."

"Let's be off then! Let us explore the rest of this catacomb."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
The bowl is made of thick iron but is dented badly by Galewing. The water in its vicinity freezes solid.

Janes, who had been lingering at the back of the group, calls out "someone's coming up behind us!"

"Dwarves, to the door!"

[The party forms up again with Draxim and Pogar in front rank, missiles in the second."

"Madragar, will the gloem listen to our commands? If it is not altogether evil, perhaps it will aid us."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Looking at the golom, then at Khelzhad, Pogar ponders on teh possiblities.
"Ehh, think the thing'll attack while we are fighting? If its a defender, maybe it will help defend us? Think maybe we should do this outside this room?" Pogar asks noone and everyone.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
The companions hustle back to the chamber doorway, hastily getting into some kind of defensive formation. Soon, however, a voice from out in the catacombs changes their attitude.

"Master Brae," the distant voice cries out. Ulwe recognizes it as Waed Daeva.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"It is neither evil nor good, Master Khelzad. Nor is it capable of independent thought. It is an object, albeit an amazing and complicated one. It will no more spring to your defence than a might a detailed portrait. Unless you have the secret to commanding it."

"However, let us be sure to keep any battle well away from this dangerous thing. If activated, it would crush a man with a single blow."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Ulwe calls out to his Order superior: "Brother Waed, we are here!"
Still keeping a wary eye on the construct, he says to the assembled group: " I think our quarry has fled. As we have seen this very night, friend and foe alike are not always bound in by stone."

"There are a few chambers still to be explored I think, let us seek thme out before we abandon these dark halls."

[ooc: There is still a door west from where Naredru died. Also there are a couple of doors North of these chambers before we first encountered the darkleech."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Waed Daeva, clad in mail and bearing the spear and shield that are common to worshipers of Orlanth, comes bounding through the chamber to the north. His face is sweaty and covered in soot. Waed grins broadly at the sight of the companions victorious and, improbably, all still alive. His mood grows grim quickly, though.

"Master Brae, we have a problem," the priest begins. "The tunnel intersection above has gotten unbearably hot. I sent a runner to the surface and Goran says that Yashai's palace is on fire. I believe we are below it for the rock itself above our heads is beginning to fracture from the intense heat. I don't think we have much time."

[BTW, Goran is a senior priest of the Spearbearer cult - the largest Orlanth sect in Moagara. He is, in fact, their leader on martial matters and is closely associated with Oggsrund of the Council of Elders.]

"Madragar, Lyssa's book must still be here, Naredru stole it along with Galewing." Though the prospect of burning to death in a stone tomb does not appeal to th epriest he is still reluctant to flee.

Sangraal goes back to the previous room and retrieves the evil dark mace. He carefully wraps it in his cloak and puts it into his backpack.

[OOC: Sangraal retrieves Brother Elir's heavy mace ]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Madragar looks at Ulwe, surprised that he himself had not thought of the sorceress's books. "Of course. Of course. They must be rescued...if they have not burned already in the conflagration above."

Turning to the party, and speaking now in a loud, clear voice, he says "Spread out! We must find an exit ere we perish. Be on the lookout for the books of the Lady of the Skytower. They are precious beyond compare! But the exit first!"

Turning back to Ulwe, he says "Naredru had to come here through tunnels - he could not pass through stone. If we proceed the way he came, we should find access to the surface."
