Re: Dobrug, Part III
[OOC: Check my understanding of the layout, please. The known tunnel to the surface has collapsed. We know of no other doors out or unexplored hallways. Is that correct?]

[Incorrect. Naredru's room is a dead-end, but the tunnel to the surface is clear. That's where Brae and the other went. Of course, it may not remain clear for long. -GM]

Madragar lingers over the barrel, though he knows that Ulwe is far more sensitive to Chaos than he. [Sense Chaos +5]

Then he looks about the room for any place Naredru might have stored Lyssa's spellbook. He'll leave the dead traitor's book for last.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Ulwe's memory is keen and the barrel reminds him of the tale Madragar and Draxim told of thier adventure under the tower next to Grugni's. It was the same Lunar construction that Naredru had destroyed with Lyssa's scroll a few short months ago.

"Pogar, Madragar! Leave that barrel be. It is an evil sacrifice to their darkleech." Ulwe makes a quick scan of the barrel knowing that a full examination would take too long.

[sense chaos +11]

He will also aid Madragar and Pogar in the search [aid other]

"Do you think that fire is cause of us?" Draxim looks like a boy about to get scolded by his father for playing with the tinder box and flints.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Brae and the companions, followed by the Aerendalen, march down the long corridor to Uruul's shop, leaving Ulwe, Madragar, and Pogar to their fate. Once they emerge from the tunnel, the battle-weary band finds themselves confronted with a surly looking gang of mercenaries. A handful of Oggsrund's Axemen loiter about the ruined shop, Olmani arrows still stuck in the walls, crates and shelves overturned and their contents strewn about. The Aerendalen are still filing through the trapdoor when a captain of the mercenaries speaks.

"Master Brae," the young warrior is respectful, though obviously wants to maintain an aura of command. "Oggsrund wants to see you. All of you." The last words are directed at the companions as well.

After spending two full minutes searching Naredru's room, Pogar finds nothing of note among the stonework. Madragar kicks over the crude bed, but this too yields nothing of interest. He gets no sense from the barrel regarding any Chaos taint, but Ulwe wrinkles his nose and steps back from the vile container.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Looking at Ulwe then to Madragar, Pogar asks "What do you think? Looks like we are at the end of this road."

"I must agree. Perhaps Yashai had the book. It may be in her lair. Let us leave before we become trapped here."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
"Aye let us be off in haste." Says Ulwe agreeing with his companions. As they pass by the sundered remains of his masterwork spear, Ulwe gathers it up in the hopes that somehow it can be made whole again.

On the way out of the villianess' lair, Ulwe pauses by the torture chamber where Erithwen met his grisly end. He looks again at the mutilated corpse and cannot leave it. Knowing full well that the body will only slow him down, he cannot let a comrade lie in a state of such disrespect. Gathering the bloody remains, he hefts it over his shoulder and follows Pogar and Madragar.

"I fear Domun must have met a similar fate." He says to his two brave and true friends.

[As the group passes the two as yet unexplored doors he will plead with them to open them to find Domun. ]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Pogar will heed Ulwes plea. Knowing deep down what friends mean to him, Pogar will help Ulwe. Feeling the door first to see how warm it is, Pogar will then kick open the door, preparing to be attacked.

[Erithwen's mutilated corpse weighs 120 pounds. How does that affect Ulwe's movement rate? Pogar will be moving 20' round regardless.]

Madragar will help Ulwe move his friend. He'll pause while Pogar kicks open the unexplored doors.

[Carrying the body puts Ulwe at 161 lb which is the top end of his Carrying Capacity (175 Heavy) giving him a move of 20. ]

Pogar kicks open the two remaining unexplored doors and finds only small chambers full of dusty corpses.

Khelzhad will takes a deep look into the eyes of the guard, then looks to the elter Brae before acting.

[Sense Motive + 3 on the guard for indications that evil awaits them at Oggsrund's]

Khelzhad can only guess at the young mercenary's motives.

[Normally you'd need some amount of interaction with the target to have a realistic chance to Sense Motive successfully.]

"It seems he is not here, Ulwe. We must go, now."

They do so, post-haste.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Brae steps aside as more of the Aerendalen rise up through the trapdoor, then regards the small group of Axemen. The old priest sets his feet and folds his arms across his chest, staff leaning against one shoulder.

"There are others in the tunnel," Brae growls. "We will remain here until they join us."

Ulwe, Madragar, Pogar and... more or less... Erithwen hustle as best they can through the catacombs then up the winding tunnel to the intersection. There the air is stifling and full of smoke. The iron-shod door to the southeast of the intersection has been smashed in by a burning timber and the blazing furnace of the palace's basement is open to them. Waves of heat and choking black smoke roll down the passage.

Unable to stand and still breathe, Ulwe and Madragar end up dragging Erithwen by his heels until they are past the worst of it. In minutes they reach the staircase leading to Uruul's shop just as a tremendous crash of wood and stone echoes down the tunnel from the east. The catacombs have been sealed once more.

[... which is a good time to ask, did anyone grab Naredru's spellbook? How about the archer woman's magic dagger? If not, well...]

A few of the Aerendalen dive down the trapdoor when Ulwe and Madragar appear, immediately relieving them of Erithwen so that they can reach the surface. Smoke has begun to fill the tunnel and soon the entire group is in Uruul's shop, and the trapdoor is closed behind them.

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Brae gives Ulwe, Madragar, and Pogar the once over but is soon satisfied that they are in good health. The Axeman sergeant is clearly getting anxious at having to wait to fulfill his orders, but there is little he can do. The young mercenary pipes up once or twice, encouraging Brae to hurry, but the elder priest ignores him.

"Waed, you come with us," Brae begins. "Have the rest of the Aerendalen bear Erithwen back to the Locamyrida and tell Cyrvalus what you have seen. Friends," Brae addresses the companions. "We must go and meet with Oggsrund. Prolonging the encounter will only make it more difficult."

Finally, turning to Axeman, Brae declares "alright, young one. Lead the way."

Re: Dobrug, Part III
Ulwe the greedy grabbed the dagger.

[Prove it. -GM]

Circumstancial evidence Exhibit A:
Quote:
The Aerendalen makes sure to look over the bodies of the dead-dead as well as that of Lyssa to look for magic or poison. He also looks over those who were wounded by the fell blades of the Shadowrackers.

[Though I admit I did not actually state 'Ulwe grabs the dagger from the archer.' He did go over the dead enemyies' posessions with his scans. I implore the GM to allow for fait accompli. Any magic items would have been snatched to be disposed of later. (intent not explicitly stated but please show leniency.) ]

[Coulda but didna. It just goes to show that you're not greedy enough! It's no secret that you don't have what's not on your equipment lists. If it was on someone's list that would have been fine... or if someone had said they grabbed it in the thread, but in this case neither are true. There was plenty of time to grab the dagger, and Sangraal even made it a point to take the Kurashk's evil mace.

Sorry, but the dagger is laying on the floor of the catacombs to be found by some later generation of adventurers. I encourage everyone to read what the GM writes carefully and to act on it when necessary. I can't read your minds. -GM]

Re: Dobrug, Part III
[OOC I may be mistaken, it has happened before, but I think I remember Madragar picking up Naredrus spell book, last thing, he was searching for Lyssa's book but was going ot pick it up in the end.]
