Re: Dobrug, Part IV
"Your reverence, I brought a ... well that is to say Orlanth has been blessing me and my freinds a lot lately, and so I thought that maybe it would be good to show like a token of my appreciation. I know Orlanth don't need it but you preists gotta eat, and if your preists aren't there to do his works - well I'd be dead anyway." So saying he thrusts the 100 gp bag at Waed Daeva.

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Ulwe gathers his things from the shrine while he informs Waed that he will be leaving Dobrug shortly. He tells the elder Aerendalen about Theony and her band of followers near Val'waha. "She will need the spiritual guidance and blessings of Orlanth. Perhaps one or more of our younger acolytes would journey South to help this woman bring light to the Nrall once more?" He says. Reaching into his pouch of gems gleaned from Oggsrund, he hands one of the smaller stones to Waed.
"This should help cover some of thier expenses for the journey. Also my horse Leisel is at the service of the Aerndalen. I shall take the sea-road. which brings me to asking favors. Do you know any of the Sea-farers well? I wish to speak with them about a ship."
[ooc gives Waed his horse as well as one of the topaz gems from his pouch ]

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Waed accepts Draxim's gift graciously.
"You have our gratitude, Draxim. May Orlanth guide you and bring a favorable wind to your next endeavor."
To Ulwe he confides "there are many who will be getting to sea now that the weather has broken. What is your destination, if I may ask?"

"We are bound for Thasvara, though there are a few places along the way we must stop. We have money for the charter, but we will need a reliable and devout captain for it is truly Orlanth's work we are undertaking."

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Waed Daeva frowns.
"Stops along the way? You'll need your own boat then, for few vessels stop at any of the village between here and Thasvara. There may be a few small ships that could be chartered, but the journey may be rough. Those smaller boats are hell on the water in spring."

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Remembering a few seasons on the Sea of Hygurae Ulwe frowns as well.
"Brother Waed" Ulwe says, "Could we not charter a larger ship and use launches to reach shore?" "Otherwise If we charter a smaller boat, we'll need an able skipper. I spent some seasons at sea but do not have the confidence to sail with my skills as they are."

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
"Well," Waed declares. "I don't know what you can afford. There are a few galleys that could take you, but it won't be cheap. Most captains will want to make for Thasvara and then down to the Shielding ports as quick as they can. A day they spend at anchor while you're on land is a day they're not carrying goods to sell in foreign ports."

"We have some coin." Says Ulwe hoping to leave it at that.
"Who should I speak with?" he asks

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Ulwe bids Waed a good Morning and heads to the Seafarers shrine adjacent to the Aerendalen shrine. He tries to find an awake acolyte and asks for Reyunn.
[Not to be a spoiler, but is Square allowed to get the lightrods and silk rope? Also please note Ulwe gave the Aerendalen a topaz as well as his horse in the hopes an Aerendalen or two will head South to meet up with Theony.]
[I've made a note of it. As for the Aerendalen, they're wanderers. They may be affected by Ulwe's gift. They may not. -GM]

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Reyunn is there and after a brief conversation directs Ulwe to a reliable captain named Unkru Sixtoe. The lanky, unshaven sailor is at the docks overseeing the reprovisioning of his small ship when Ulwe catches up with him.
The boat is a galley with a single bank of oars and a single mast. It is a coastal vessel, but looks sea-worthy and has a deep hull for carrying cargo as well as men. There is no hold, and no cabins, however, so anyone on board will be exposed to the weather.
[Picture a Viking longship, except without the high prow and with a deeper draft.]

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
(How long is the ship?)
Ulwe approaches Unkro Sixtoe and greets the captain with a traditional Orlanthian blessing "May the tides take you where He wills." And then he tosses a silver coin in the water for luck.
"I am Ulwe an Aerendalen of Hythriad, blessings upon you and your vessel good captain." He then explains to Unkro that he and his companions will need passage to Thasvara with several stops on the way. These stops may be longer than a few hours and he explains the importance of having a trustworthy captain who would linger while Ulwe and his companions went ashore. Dropping Reyunn's name as well as Waed Daeva and Brae's name he tells Unkro that he is pleased to meet a sea-captain held in high regard by the priesthood of the Locamyrida.
Finally he asks the captain how much such a charter would cost and if he is willing to undertake it.

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
[silk rope I can understand - is hemp available instead? And there are really no light crossbow bolts in this town? I thought that was a common weapon...]
[Hemp is certainly available. Light bolts... you mean crossbow bolts. Of course, they're available. -GM]

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Unkru repeatedly corrects Ulwe, who consistantly mispronounces his name. The captain takes some time to consider his cargo before making an offer.
"Ten gold a day, plus five per passenger."

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Ulwe apologizes to Unkru "Forgive my elven tongue. Sometimes I have difficulty with Moagaran. Good Captian Unkru, your offer is fair. Ulwe digs into his pouch and hands the captain Thirty Gold.
Then he addresses Unkru with a barrage of questions:
"Is this sufficient to secure passage with the remainder bieng paid immediately prior to departure? "
"Speaking of departure when can this fine ship leave port? We are anxious to get underway and the sooner we leave Dobrug, the better."
"What do you call this ship? How long is she?"

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Ulwe estimates the ship is about seventy feet long, bow to stern, with a fifteen foot beam. A canvas tent-like structure at the stern of the boat protects the helmsman. It has a shallow enough draft to make landfall on a suitably forgiving beach.
Unkru agrees to allow Ulwe to secure passage and pay the rest after the ship is underway. Unkru was planning on leaving the next morning, but hints he may be able to launch sooner, if properly motivated.
"This is a Kelp Canary," Unkru Sixtoe declares proudly.

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Beeming with his success, Ulwe tells Unkru to try to prepare the ship for departure as soon as he can. He then rushes off on a few shopping errands, starting with the Master weapon-smith who made his spear as well as the Master Armorer who made his shield. [Do these craftsmen have names?]
At the weaponsmith, Ulwe seeks to have his spear repaired. [PHB states masterwork weapons can be repaired for 1/3 of their cost.]
[Ulwe can get a new shaft for his spear for 1/3 the cost... in four days. He can get it today for 1/2 the cost. -GM]
At the armorer, Ulwe looks for a masterwork Large metal shield. [the PHB states one cannot carry any items and use a large shield. Ulwe wants to carry his javelins in his shield hand (a'la the Greeks) -seeking a GM ruling on that one.]
[Sure. It's a center grip shield. You can hold up to two javelins in your shield hand. -GM]

Re: Dobrug, Part IV
Ulwe pays the weaponsmith for his time and profusely thanks him for the rush service.
Then he purchases a Large Steel Shield from the armorer.
After his chores are done, Ulwe returns to the Locamyridra to try to find Brae.
