Re: Interlude: Migration
With a flourish Sekastia throws open the sturdy wooden chest and pulls out a swath of gray silk. With one hand she raises the shimmering garment for all to see and the assembled Moagari nobles all lean forward, or turn their heads, to try to get the best possible view of the mysterious gift. Ogdalaan is entranced as well, his eyes glimmering with naked greed.

"Behold," Sekastia proclaims. "The Shroud of Kuth, crafted by shamen of the most ancient horse tribes at the First Dawn when Yelm at last emerged from the Underworld. It has long been lost, stolen from your forebears by the hands of the Darkening Believers. Thus do we return the Shroud of Kuth to its rightful owner."

Playing along with Sekastia's presentation, Lothos reverently takes hold of the Shroud and kneels before Ogdalaan who marvels at the garment before laying it across his lap.

"Behold," Sekastia declares while producing what appears to be an intricately tooled leather belt. "The Leopard Coil. From the steaming jungles of Kaijiki the great champion Magdaru, great grand sire of the mighty Ogdalaan, returned with this, the soul of the Leopard King. At the Battle of Lost Valor was Magdaru slain and his body never found. Yet the Leopard Coil remains and thus do we return it to its rightful owner."

Again the precious object is handed to Ogdalaan who is clearly overwhelmed by the magnitude of the gifts.

"Behold," Sekastia concludes, holding aloft a slender rod of white bone, scintillating blue inscriptions shimmering along its length and the warm tent air turning to frost around it. "Galewing, crafted from the thigh bone of the demon Waer Zhaguul by the hand of Cataen, Queen of the Falcon Riders. It was she that led the Moagari across the Dry West to settle among the Vheldings, and it was the Vheldings that violated her tomb and stole her treasures. Thus do we return Galewing to its rightful owner."

Ogdalaan stares at the priceless gifts that have fallen into his possession, each potent beyond anything he has seen before, but also artifacts plucked from the stories of his youth. The Moagari chieftain remains silent with reverence, as do the assembled nobles.

"And so do we, the Ertrani, fulfill our promise to you, great Ogdalaan." Sekastia bows and returns to her seat among the companions.

Rhal Dvash doesn't miss a beat, and in a moment is on his feet.

"These are magnificent objects for certain great sovereign. Yet one cannot ignore that they belonged to the Moagari, your ancestors. One cannot give away what one does not own in the first place. One may give shelter and a meal to one that returns a wayward horse, but to tear down one's tent and follow the stranger over the horizon is madness."

The Rhusai ambassador addresses those gathered in the tent as much as Ogdalaan himself. The Moagari chieftain listens with one ear but is still marveling over the magical objects in his lap.

Suddenly the smile on Rhal Dvash's face disappears and he turns on the companions. He jabs an accusatory finger at them and snarls like an angry jackal.

"Now is the time for you to reveal the secret you have hidden, Ertrani. Now you must tell what you know to be true of the future the Moagari will have in your accursed land - that they will be conquered by the Empire across the sea."

This snaps Ogdalaan out of his trance, and much of the Moagari nobles as well. Whispers turn to angry shouts as many of the proud nomads rise to their knees, and some to their feet, to loudly protest the prognostication.

"Tell them!" Rhal Dvash shouts over the heads of the companions continuing to jab his finger at them like a dagger. "Our seers have divined this cruel fate into which you would lead the Moagari. Tell them it is true, or step forward and swear by the Lord of Oaths that it is not!"

Re: Interlude: Migration
Calmly smiling at the angered ambassador, Nryl says quietly, but with as much honesty and compassion as can be mustered and loud enough to be heard by Ogdalaan.

"The truth is, Great Ogdalaan, your name as your kin shall be reveered in greatness", Nryl pauses for dramatic effect, then continues, "For eternity".

Re: Interlude: Migration
Ogdalaan doesn't seem satisfied with Nryl's answer. Rhal Dvash pounces.

"Ha! So you do not deny that the Moagari will become a conquered people." The Rhusai ambassador turns to the assembled nobles and spreads his arms wide as if to encompass them all in his embrace.

"What greatness can be found among the conquered? There is none, for the conquerer has no regard for those he has defeated. See what the Ertrani would have you become?"

Shouts of "death first!" and "a fools adventure!" and more than a few colorful curses fill the tent as many of the nobles become incensed.

Re: Interlude: Migration
"Silence!" Shouts Talla to Rhal Dvash.

"Your seers have divined the future, what to they foretell of the Moagarii if they stay as vassals of the Vheldings?"

Not awaiting an answer, Talla addresses the Moagari chieftain Ogdalaan directly

"There will be hardship and struggle for your people. Our king asks you to come to his lands and settle to aid in our great struggle against the Dark Ones. But your people will be free. They will have lands to call their own from now until the end of days."

"Our seers have seen an Empire from beyond the sea as well, but they can glimpse farther and with more clarity. Your descendants will defeat the Empire from beyond the sea and the lands of the Moagari will be free once again."

Re: Interlude: Migration
[For what it's worth that isn't entirely true. The Lunars left Moagara on their own initiative and never, in fact, lost a battle to the natives.]

Dvash shakes his head incredulously as arguments break out among the nobles.

"What are these fabrications? They are convenient to your argument, Ertrani, but they are like cobwebs in the wind. They have no weight, no substance. And tell me, snake tongue, if you knew of this conquest of the Moagari why did you not tell them of it before tempting them to be your errand boys? This mighty tribe can be just as free among the Rhusai!"

Re: Interlude: Migration
"Dvash, you insult our host with your foul manners."

"Ogdalaan, our king invites you to settle the lands to aid our people against the Shadow Folk. We have brought great gifts and promise the lands to you for all time. Beholden to no other tribe, your folk will live free. Your line will be remembered. In time if what the seers say is true, it is your folk who will struggle against a mighty foe and prevail."

"The Rushai offer nothing other than what you already have: a vassal-state to the Vhelding overlords. Your destiny and that of your people awaits in the lands North and West of the Threid River. Sieze your future and guide your folk for none shall be your masters in your new lands."

Re: Interlude: Migration
[The Rhusai are a tribe that lives south of the Vheldings. They are distinct and seperate cultures.]

"The only insult here are your flatteries and lies," Dvash barks back. "The Rhusai are no vassals to the Vheldings, and to say so is to cheapen the glory of our divine queen, Yalai, wife of our generous host."

Dvash turns to Ogdalaan to converse with the chieftain directly.

"What other deceits have the Ertrani concealed from you, dread sovereign? If you are to go with them into the east, at least let us hear what they know of the future of your people. Their seers are superior to those of the Rhusai, or so they say. Let them tell us the tale that hast yet been written. The Swordmaidens will know the truth of their words, and if they are spoken truthfully then you may set the course of your people in the light of knowledge."

A rumble of agreement passes through the tent as Moagaran nobles nod and comment on the wisdom of Dvash's proposal. Ogdalaan seems to ponder the ambassador's request and sits forward in his throne to address the companions.

"What of this, Ertrani? You are our guests and no one can compell you to speak or do while that is so. Will you tell us the tale that has yet to be written? Will you open to your host the vision of your seers?"

Re: Interlude: Migration
Lothos quietly watches the events unfold as rhal Dvash and Sekesta trade words. The murmuring of the crowd in the tent grow troubled at Rhal Dvash proclaims his seers visions and Nryls attempt to placate the kings concern fails. Waiting for his moment to intercede Lothos begins.

“Tis true that the seers have advised us of the future that could be. If you choose wise Lord Ogdalaan to see that our plea has no guise or false intent, your name and that of your progeny will ring through the ages as beacons of all that is good and pure. The gods themselves shall smile at your deeds and your people will be blessed.”

Stepping back from the throne he raises his voice to all may hear.

“Swordmaidens come hither and hear the tale of the house of Tenherds!”
Standing tall so all may heed Lothos begins to tell the saga of the House of Tenherds, he speaks only the truth but leaves names absent presenting the tale a prophecy.

“…and one will rise and shall be known to all as Ringproud, a scion of Tenherds who will battle the Shadow Lord himself and drive him from there lands. Favored by the Lightbringer Urox he will lead the Nralvadlings in their time of need and they shall see freedom. But all is not perfect, a great empire from across the sea shall come and go, evil will wax and wane in the land but through this all the Moagari and the name Tenherds stand proud outlasting all through sheer will. This the seers of Ertrani have preordained.”

[OOC: Diplomacy +6
Sangraal tales the tale of the Hralma and the Paindrinkers, he tells no lies and does not stretch the truth but does leave out names and specific places. He attempts to present it as a prophecy for which Moagari can follow bending it as necessary to their own sense of history and fate. ]

Re: Interlude: Migration
The entire congregation listens with rapt attention as Lothos spins his tale, one that Sangraal knows well. While he spoke one of the Swordmaidens did step forward and stood quite close to him, her eyes shining with a holy radiance. Maintaining her concentration throughout, she alone was unmoved by Lothos' story and loud cheers filled the tent when the fire demon of Chaos (called Irigaal in the full version of the story) was struck down by the legend's hero. Even the Rhusai were caught up in the tale, though it was not obvious if their enthusiasm was just an act.

"Would that my son, Vras, were here for he is the first of the clan called Tenherds," Ogdalaan intones. "He would very much like to hear this tale, I think." The Moagari chieftain then raises an eyebrow at the Swordmaiden.

"He believes his story is true," she declares while still staring at Lothos, her eyes narrowed and glowing. "But the Ertrani seers... this is false."

A murmur of questions and conversation ripples through the tent. The Swordmaiden slowly begins to back away from Lothos and puts a hand on her blade.

"What is this about, Inil?" Ogdalaan inquires.

Re: Interlude: Migration
Seeing the Swordmaiden place her hand on her sword, Nryl tenses but makes no move. Nryl does not want this situation to turn into a fight that will turn the tide of the future at all, yet, the dragon newt deep down knows that protection of his kin is first and formost. That and the deep rumblings of the one known as Pogar, who loves a good fight.

However, Nryl is not happy with how the tide has turned.

Nervous to speak as last time he spoke did not work, Nryl keeps silent, watching the swordmaiden but also searching the crowd for anyone who looks like they are making an advace on the group.

Re: Interlude: Migration
Pogar could hardly see a barn from inside the barn, but Nryl's eyes are keen. No one in the tent is making any overt move toward the companions, but if a fight broke out it would likely go poorly for them. The companions are unarmed and despite their strength and resilience are in close proximity to some of the most experienced and well equiped warriors in the entire tribe.

[who is Inil? ]

Ulwe/Sekestia/Talla stands by Lothos.

"We speak of seers, in a different way. These visions of my friend are what he believes to be true, for they are indeed the future. Or a future that we believe will come to pass, and will come to pass if Ogdalaan and the Moagarii travel Eastward. He and I know this future because we have seen the times after."

Re: Interlude: Migration
Sekastia's explanation seems to raise more questions than it answers, and the Swordmaiden shakes her head in disapproval as she watches. Ogdalaan looks confused.

"There is trickery here," she says quietly. "I cannot see what is lie and what is truth."

Rhal Dvash hisses. "This stinks of sorcery!"

"There are no lies because we speak of things that are yet to be. The future is not settled. Yet we know some things that will come to pass if Ogdalaan and the Moagarii travel East."

"Let Rhal Dvash speak before the swordmaidens of his seer's visions."

Dramaaaaa.....
Sangraal/Lothos/Inil gazes at the swordmaiden obviously caught in a lie.

“Swordmaiden who speaks and sees truth, bear witness now to the truth that holds itself above all for Lord Ogdalaan to consider. There are no Eretani seers. We can scry neither air not water and have no parlor tricks to show. But I have seen the past and future with my own eyes and have felt the fertile soil under my feet the land you will come to call home. The present though is clouded and unknown. I sense a fulcrum, as the scales weigh what we say here.”

Turning to face the provocateur,
“Rhal Dvash, I do not wish to barter words or to tie an oath with slick vocabulary. We come bearing a message and this message is the key. If I am lying then the swordmaiden shall strike me down, I will not resist, by the horns of Urox I swear this.”
Sangraal approaches King Ogdalaan and takes to his knee.

“We come asking for add, in return for you and your peoples help you will be free to settle the lands of the Eretani and be equals amongst us, beholden unto known. That is the truth that matters; we come before you in good conscience with no malice or ill intent. Times will wax and wane but your people and the name Tenherds will endure. To offer more would be untrue.”

Sangraal bows his head.

“If I have spoken with forked tongue strike me down.”

[OOC: Diplomacy +6 : Sangraal tries to cut through what is becoming very convoluted and hopefully with the swordmaidens help show the King that the offer if fair and true. ]

Re: Dramaaaaa.....
Ogdalaan clutches his head, obviously overwhelmed by the complexity of the discussion. The Swordmaiden, however, remains attentive and listens closely to every word Lothos speaks. When he is done she does not move and regards him for some time with a suspicious look. The massive tent is silent except for the breeze of twilight.

"You have been truthful," she intones. "Though I sense there is more to your story than you have told."

Turning to face the companions seated at their low table she continues.

"I am Priestess Aiasarra, and it is the gift of the Lord of Oaths, Humakt, that I am the truth seer for my tribe. The faithful know my words are true for those that are closest to the gods have the greatest to fear from their wrath. Tell me now, strangers, from whom do you receive your gift... the gift of future sight? Are you priest or sorcerer or creature unnatural? Speak now."

Re: Dramaaaaa.....
Madragar/Amanos stands forth. "Hear me, O King, and you, Lady Truth Seer. We are all of those and none. And we speak the utter truth when we say that we do not know the source of that power, though we suppose and hope it to be the Lords of Light."

"You say that my companions have not told the whole of what we know, and you are correct. For to know aught of the future is a dangerous thing - a man must handle such knowledge as he would a sword with two blades, carefully, lest it cut against him."

"All that you have heard us say is the truth, as is this: We assembled here wish you and yours only the best, for our fates are linked. But to reveal all would be no service to you, and might well stain the future glory that lays before you, bringing any predictions to naught, in the very action of prediction."

"There is a reason, mighty king, why oracles speak in riddles. It must be sufficient that our purpose coincides with the great expansion and advantage of your people. Heed our invitation and your descendants, though they pass through an age of conquest, shall emerge as numerous as the stars, and the shadow of their glory shall be long indeed. Heed it not, and distant peril may overwhelm each of our peoples."

"We trust to your judgment in this."

Time
Aiasarra stares intently at Amanos while he speaks, her glowing eyes searching his face for any hint of falsehood. Again, as he concludes, she does not move and remains silent for a moment. Then, quite suddenly, she spins around in an icy chorus of silver scales, her blade singing from its sheath, and advances on the Rhusai who as one leap to their feet at the unexpected challenge.

"And what of you, Rhal Dvash? What is the source of your precognition? You knew of the Ertrani's vision with a suspicious degree of accuracy. Speak now, what god is your master?"

The tent is hushed, though the other eleven Swordmaidens managed in the blink of an eye to position themselves between the Rhusai and Ogdalaan.

Rhal Dvash smiles and raises an empty hand. The gentle evening breeze at once transforms into the brutal wind of a storm off the northern plain. The tent begins to shake violently as dust and debris roar through the space. The nobles rise, some fleeing into the street, others gripping their weapons and rushing to the aid of their chieftain.

"I know the answer to your riddle, Amanos!" Dvash shouts through the maelstrom. "The boy will not live to fulfill his destiny. There will be no Runelords!"

In a heartbeat Aiasarra leaps forward and slashes through the Rhusai ambassador, but he is without form or substance. Laughing maniacally, all six of the black robed Rhusai suddenly fly backward and through the wall of the tent as if they were dreams carried upon the wind.

The Swordmaiden turns again to face the companions, her body shimmering with a brilliant luminescence.

"What was that?" she demands. Her eyes flash with holy light and her flesh bursts into a white radiance that washes away all else before it until there is nothing but the companions and the Swordmaiden. "Tell me! You have the vision. Tell me..."

Her words become distant, her body consumed by the infinte white light as the walls between worlds collapse and armies of mindless spirits obliterate everything that once was. The universe is devoured and all things are dark and cold.
