Like a good Dark-Ages warrior
Ulwe zigs across the hallway. He ducks between Mulgi and the legionairre on the North wall of the tunnel beneath the balcony. Quickly the elven priest readies Aella and targets a Duergar in the melee. With a hasty prayer to his Patron Deity Orlanth, Ulwe casts the Swan Maiden at the enemy.

Meanwhile he continues to direct the Spiritual Weapon at The Duergar Priestess (#14 Spiritual Weapon d8 dam force weapon Duration 2 rnds left)

Re: Big ass dagger. what ever hapened to 1d4?
Ulwe bounds up to the archway and hurls his javelin at one armored duergar. The missile punches a neat hole in the creature's thigh armor, its leg, and emerges from the other side carrying with it gobbets of viscous blood. The duergar screams and staggers back from the line, its voice muffled behind a faceless bronze helmet.

The priest's spiritual weapon continues its assault on the duergar priestess, raising several cuts along her forearm as she tries to bat the thing away with her lantern.

In a shallow arc, a fist-sized ball of blue light streaks into the back of the duergar formation and with a thunderous eruption explodes outward. Shafts of brilliant white electricity burn dwarf flesh and cascade over the bronze embellishments of their armor. Some of the duergar hunch over and ride out the worst of Madragar's spell, their natural resistance to magic helping them greatly, but others are not so lucky. Several dark dwarves fall to the ground stone dead, including the one with Ulwe's javelin through its leg.

The human priests look as surprised as the duergar but take the opportunity to press the attack against their enemies. Nearest the archway, one priest spins around and greets the companions with a wide grin. Sangraal recognizes him instantly.

"You always were a tardy one, Sangraal," Hvari quips. "But we are all still alive so there must be time, if only a little."

Noticing Sangraal's wound, and unphased by the strange metallic cast of his skin, Hvari rushes to Sangraal's side and utters a prayer to the Lightbringers. As the oozing belly wound begins to close, Sangraal notices Hvari's livery which displays a strange triskel on golden circle. It is quite unlike the simple tartan sash of the Brotherhood of the Dawn.

A huge Moagaran warrior engaged with two duergar spares a moment to shout back over his shoulder.

"Enough chatting with the acolytes Hvari," Varamon bellows. "Let's finish these bastards and seek out their master."

Varamon punctuates his words with a mighty blow to the head of one adversary with his massive, two-handed mace. The ancient weapon is called Retribution and the duergar's armor seems totally unable to withstand it.

Mulgi and his two legionnaire companions leap into the fray. In the northern part of the room one unfortunate priest is overwhelmed by a flurry of attacks from the duergar and goes down under their blows.

Khelzhad hustles towards the combat at full (dwarvish) speed. Huffing as he nears the balcony, he pauses to get out his last flask of oil.

Re: Like a good Dark-Ages warrior
The Lightbringer priests continue their assault while the duergar warriors retreat, their priestesses hurling deadly magic at their adversaries. To the south, a cone of black death magic roars through the line, knocking down one priest while envigorating the duergar in that part of the room. One of the unfortunate legionnaires, having just arrived, blunders into the area of effect and is killed instantly.

Suddenly, from the mouth of the corridor to about ten feet east of Atan, a thick mass of sticky webs appears out of thin air. Sangraal, Hvari, and Ulwe are all stuck fast by the webs, but Madragar and Atan manage to avoid them, for now.

[Those caught need to make a DC 20 strength or Escape Artist check, or have their webs burned away for them. Those not stuck have to make the same check every 5' they want to move through the webs, unless they can burn their way through. Either way it's 5' per round.]

[Does the web reach the balcony as well?]

[It's about 25' feet high, so does cover the balcony. There's about 5' of open space near the ceiling but you'd have to be flying to get through it. -GM]

Re: Underground, Part V
With the Companions stuck underneath, Khelzhad decides not to lob the oil at the ballista as he had intended. Instead, he drops his pack and crossbow and pulls out the last torch he has wedged between the ropes on his pack. He lights the torch off of Draxim's flaming weapon and tries to free a Companion or two from the entangling mess.

Re: Like a good Dark-Ages warrior
Khelzhad burns a corridor through the webs and reaches Atan, who is just to the north of his position trying very hard not to touch any of the sticky, sorcerous strands.

Re: Like a good Dark-Ages warrior
[ Actually Khelzhad is the one with the flaming weapon, not Draxim. ]

Draxim follows Khelzhad down his corridor and reloads his crossbow.

[How climbable are the walls assuming I get rid of the webs first of course? ]

[Not very climable at all. The dragonewt architecture doesn't leave much to hold on to. -GM]

Re: Underground, Part V
Atan pulls an 2 arrows from his quiver and passes one to Madragar. There are alit in flame and soon begins to burns himself a path towards the Dawn Brothers.

[OOC: Can Atan use an arrow enchanted with Flame Weapon to burn the strands? ]

[An arrow is enough to free himself, but not enough to burn a path through the webs. Khelzhad's torch is enough. -GM]

"Hvari," inquires Madragar conversationally, bringing a pinch of sulfur out the hidden recesses of his sleeves, "you wouldn't happen to be resistant to fire just now, would you?"

[ Janes moves 1 NW then 5 W ]

"My quarrels will burn. Should I shoot past Ulwe to clear a path?" Janes asks this while looking at Ulwe to see if he agrees with the idea. If so then he'll try to shoot between Atan and Ulwe hoping the flaming weapon will clear the way for them.

Re: Underground, Part V
Ulwe struggles against the webs. His eyes are alight with panic at being caught in a gigantic spider's web. Being an elf, and a very nimble one at that, he is more than a little uncomfortable being immobilized. His thrashings become more frenzied as he tries to extricate himself from the sticky strands.

Hearing Janes, and seeing the innkeep with his crossbow pointed in his derection, further fuels the elven priest's unease. His past words with the time-warped Rogue are replayed and Ulwe regrets many of them. Looking at the business end of a flaming quarrel Ulwe exclaims:
"Gaaa! Shoot if you must my friend, but to the Lightbringers, I pray your aim is true!"

(D20 STR 14 attempt to free himself. )

Re: Underground, Part V
Half chuckling, Hvari replies "not at the moment."

Miraculously, Ulwe thrashes and curses and breaks free of the cable-like strands. He is, however, still in the middle of the webs and any movement could cause him to be trapped again.

Re: Underground, Part V
Atan clears the area around himself of webs.

Janes looks at the thick, opaque strands and is doubtful firing a few flaming arrows through would do much good.

Madragar, who is not encumbered by the webs, will smear the bit of sulphur across his fingertips and stab them out at Sangraal and Hvari.

"This will only hurt for a moment," he says.

burning hands

[Madragar casts this spell as if he were a 1st-level caster, in order to reduce the damage done to the two trapped figures. This requires a DC 11 Spellcraft roll. Madragar has a Spellcraft skill of +11] 8)
