Re: Underground, Part V
[Oh, you think you're so smart, eh? Well, how about twelve mind flayers!]

WHOOSH! A wide swath of the magic webs goes up in a puff of smoke. Sangraal is totally unharmed by the fire, while Hvari is only mildly singed. After Khelzhad's liberal burnination the webs have little left to hold on to, at least in the lower half of the corridor, and collapse upon themselves. In short, the web spell fails.

The moment he is free, Hvari charges back into the fray like a shot. Nearly knocking over one of the red-clad duergar with his thick round shield, the priest slashes madly, joining Varamon in the slaughter. Nearby, a tall, willowy priest wields spear and shield as he duels with his foe. Ulwe seems to recognize him as Waed Daeva, a member of his order, though he too wears the unfamiliar triskel rather than the colors of the Aerendalen.

Across the line the duergar warriors fight for their lives, though the battle is clearly going against them. Seeing the hopelessness of the situation and the mass of reinforcements rushing down the corridor, the duergar priestesses make their escape. Almost in unison they pull small bronze icons out of their belts and utter identical sorcerous chants. All three vanish in a flash of light.

Whether frustrated or relieved, the companions have arrived in time only to see the last of the duergar cornered and pounded into submission. Varamon is ever in the lead, smashing the bones of the dark dwarves until all are laying in pools of blood, unmoving.

Panting, but still smiling, Hvari turns again to Sangraal.

"All according to plan, or almost," Hvari wipes the sweat from his brow and blood drips off his longsword. "You at least are right on time, my friend."

[Note to Madragar.]

"Eyes sharp!" barks Madragar. "Those were short-range spells and those duergar priests have not gone far."

Re: Underground, Part V
Panting heavily and obviously flustered, Pogar bends over, winded. The flaming sword hangs low.

When Madragar calls out, Pogar stands straight again and raising the sword in a defensive position. He stands still and tries to remain silent, eyeing the room for any sign of the priestess.

Re: Underground, Part V
[It takes a round or two before Pogar finally makes it to the main chamber, and in that time there is no sign of the priestesses.]

Hvari, Varamon, and the other priests hastily check each other's wounds and a mad chorus of healing prayers echoes through the chamber. Pogar and Sangraal's wounds are seen to as well.

"Eshrid, Talwyn," Hvari barks. "Get out your crossbows and keep an eye on that balcony. Shoot anything that moves."

The two doors leading from the chamber are both constructed of massive stone blocks, and each is decorated with the wild, meandering iconography that is common to the dragonewt architecture. The door to the north, however, is also barricaded by a collection of timbers put there, probably, by the duergar.

Re: Underground, Part V
If we are out of combat, Draxim retrieves his pack, gets his grappling hook and uses it and a rope to climb up to the balcony.

[Ok. That'll take a few minutes. -GM]

Ulwe sets about the grim task of retrieving his javelin from the corpse of the Duergar. Then he immediately heads to Waed Daeva.

"Hail brother Daeva!" He greets his Aerendalen friend. "Fancy seeing you here of all places. What news from the Locamyridra?"

Madragar locates himself in the middle of the hall. He is observing all that he can, both of the chamber and of their allies. He desires to understand the differences that have resulted so that he may form a theory as to what changed in the past.

As Ulwe approaches, Waed Daeva looks quickly at Hvari and then back to the elf before extending a hand in greeting.

"Ah, yes. Do I know you?"

Re: Underground, Part V
"You did, or you will, or maybe now not at all." Ulwe mutters cyptically.

Then he looks the man in the eye who had been a mentor of sorts, and smiles.

"Forgive me. I am Ulwe Suulose, disciple of Orlanth. If you are in fact Waed Daeva, your reputation has preceeded you. Though I must admit I am not certain of all that has transpired of late. All the details are not in place. I am not quite sure what exactly is going on here? How is it that you and your companions are here? And where exactly is here?"

Re: Underground, Part V
Waed Daeva's eyes brighten with the light of recognition.

"Ulwe!" he exclaims. "It is a pleasure to meet you at last. Deva Hegi could not divine your fate after the expedition to the Wild Lands, though the Queen spoke highly of you and your companions. This new enemy has kept us all quite busy, as you can imagine."

"There was an explosion in the Fortress of Lead," Mulgi chimes in, clearly joyful at the sudden appearance of the companions. "We came north, through the Rajani lands, and all was in chaos."

"Yes, captain," Waed continues, smiling at the energetic trollkin. "The veil had been lifted from our eyes and the Xorn were revealed. Trusted men across the land suddenly became pale worms with the stink of Chaos on their breath. The Queen, too, was found and the line of Aiasarra revived. It has been an eventful winter."

Hvari, who had been conversing with Varamon about how best to dismantle the duergar barricade, wanders over.

"Time enough for a history lesson later," he declares. "We have to prepare and these folk," he gestures toward the companions. "Must be on their way. Come Waed, lend a hand with the barricade."

"Hvari, you are a sight!" firmly gripping his mentors hand Sangraal smiles warmly as the last of the Druagar fall. "I'll follow into the Pit of Slaeg Gnara just say the word.”

Glancing about “What can we do?” he offers.

Re: Underground, Part V
Varamon, always a man of few words, turns to Hvari and grumbles "show them."

Hvari considers Varamon's suggestion for a moment and shrugs.

"The Deva didn't say we couldn't... so why not?''

Hvari produces a scroll case made from a hollow bone out of his backpack and hands it to Sangraal.

"Thankfully, what you can do has been well defined for us. Read it."

Sangraal unstoppers the case and gently pulls out the rolled parchment that it contains. The vellum scroll is ancient, perhaps centuries old by its time-worn appearance. The companions gather around and read over Sangraal's shoulder.

"On the first new moon of spring, after the face of the Xorn has been revealed, the Hand of Salhaug will shatter the island and sweep the cold sea across your land. All from Rhylva to Thasvara and beyond will be flooded and the dead will rise in a vast and terrible army.

Go to the island and in the south find the domed temple. Within, the Shadows conspire to call the Hand. At the chamber of falcons, the eight will go beyond the barrier. All others must remain to face the new enemy from below.

Dawnbrother, servant of Yelm, Sangraal of the Cloth
Seawanderer, shield of Orlanth, Ulwe Suulosse"

"We found that three days ago," Hvari explains while the companions read. "It was discovered within a secret chamber of the Aighurval, a place long forgotten. The Deva communed with the Father and ordered us hither, a strong admonition to follow the instructions on the scroll."

"So perhaps," Varamon inquires. "Sangraal of the Cloth... Ulwe Suulosse. You can shed some light on where we are, and why we are here?"

Re: Underground, Part V
Sangraal stares at the ancient document stunned and now a little bit more then confused about what Yelm has deemed for him.

" Short version?" Sangraal looks to Varamon and Hvari, " I believe that the shadow cults are working to free Salhaug , which I believe to be some sort of dark Runelord trapped in the pieces of an ancient machine. A machine the Lunars broke up and scattered the pieces to seal the Shadow cults temples. Those pieces we now call the Grey disks. When all the disks are reassembled this Salhaug will be set free to fulfill the prophecy of the Drowning Dawn. The rest seems to be in the scroll you hold in your hands."

"As to where we are and why, I'm not sure, we were on the Bullulds isle but that may have changed. How did you come to get here?"

Re: Underground, Part V
"The fastest ship out of Thasvara we could find," Hvari replies. "Deva Hegi was adamant that we seek out this place for the first new moon of spring is in just two days. It seems that her vision, and the warning on the scroll, are both correct."

"We have turned aside from our pursuit of the Xorn to come here," Varamon grumbles. "Throughout the winter they have fled before us, now that their masks have been shattered. Many in the Church have been lost in the struggle or we would be here in greater numbers. What of this enemy from below?"

Ulwe nudges a dead duergar. "These? Or I'd say it could be those bloated Valgorah devils." "Tell me Waed Daeva, did the Ilbog fight with or against you?"

Re: Underground, Part V
After straightening out exactly what an Ilbog is...

"Against us," Waed replies. "They fought like devils and used poison on their weapons. We lost a company of the Thasvaran guard getting past them and their duergar allies."

"Names!" shouts Draxim as he tests the rope he intends to climb to the balcony. "Get the names of those Xorn in case...things change again. Khelzhad or Madragar can record them." If satisfied with the rope, he begins his climb leaving his pack below.

As he climbs he mutters, "Dad always told me all politicians were evil monsters, I guess he was right!"

Re: Underground, Part V
Draxim gets to the balcony and rolls to his feet. The northern wall of the balcony is open to a ten foot wide corridor. With his darkvision Draxim can see that the passage travels about thirty feet before angling downward. There is no sign of the duergar.

Nodding his head to those that healed him, in his typical manor, Pogar listens to the conversation that is happening before him. At the mention of the Ilbog figting against the Lunars, Pogar sighs.

"Me heart feels fer them, if things er the same as before. Last me heared, their king was captured by chaos n they'r slaves ta their own loyalty." Pogar says, to no one inparticular, more so to solidify what is reality to him.

As Draxim climbs up to the balcony, Pogar is uneasy of him being up there by himself. Pogar will grab the rope and climb up after him.
