Re: Broiled in Butter
Pogar plows ahead, stomping up the staircase through piles of bruised fungi and quivering mushrooms. One towering stalk dumps a gallon of slick green goo down the dwarf's arm as he passes by, but he hardly notices. Reaching the top of the balcony Pogar sees a trail of burned and shrivelled fungus leading due north into a corridor which travels about twenty feet and then turns left. There is still no sign of the elemental though it surely went north.

As Khelzhad enters the room he moves cautiously and uses his javelin to poke and prod suspicious looking fungi before stepping near them.

Sangraal scans the carnage left by the fire elemental.

[OOC: Spot +3 looks to see if anything has been revealed after the flames burned away the fungus. ]

Sangraal sees nothing unusual or noteworthy among the burned patches of fungi.

Re: Broiled in Butter
As his companions are slowly filing back into the room, Pogar decides to move on, not wanting to lose track of the Elemental.

Images of the Elemental finishing off what it was chasing, turning around and coming back into the room to kill him and his friends, start dancing in his head. He wants to keep an eye on the elemental, so as to not have any surprises.

[Move on to where? -GM]

[Pogar is trying to follow the elemental. He will go up to the balcony and will slowly move down the hallway, listening for the sounds of battle or any movement of the elemental.]

Re: Broiled in Butter
With Pogar in the lead, the companions pick their way through the mushroom forest and into the corridor at the northern end of the balcony. Long greenish-gray vines run along the floor of the passage, linking the psychic fungi stalks to something around the bend. Pogar advances cautiously and peeks around the corner.

He sees a corridor that extends beyond the limit of his darkvision. It is full of more of the thick, quivering fungus. Very nearby, however, is a bulbous pile of fungus nearly eight feet in diameter that appears to be the root of all the psychic stalks. The pile also appears to have collapsed in on itself and has been badly burned. Several more of its stalks are visible to the west but are laying flat on the ground rather than languidly waving in the non-existant subterranean breeze.

Beyond the root ball Pogar spots a thick steel door set into a steel frame. It has been badly mauled and sags sideways drunkenly leaving a narrow but passable gap. The room beyond appears cluttered with debris but no other details are visible.

Map.

Re: Broiled in Butter
Do the singe marks continue past the door or down the corridor or none of the above? Also, does it look like the door was mauled recently?

[No. There are no burn marks beyond the bulbous root thing. The door looks like it was forcibly opened a long time ago. -GM]

Re: Broiled in Butter
[OOC: Is there any evidence of burnt stuffing heading down the hall? And, from what Pogar can see, would he believe the bulbous root thing to be dead?]

[Erm... I just said there was no sign of anything burned beyond the root, and it appears quite dead. -GM]

[My bad, I thought you meant going towards the door.]

"Lets check out the door" Sangraal moves cautiously around the root ball.

[OOC: Sangraal looks at down the opening with the broken door.

Still have light spell up and Iron Aspect up.

Re: Broiled in Butter
The room beyond the shattered iron door is large - Sangraal can't see the other side or the ceiling. It is also strewn with debris, most of which appears to be very old, partially rotted wooden timbers. It looks as if some structure internal to the complex had been smashed to pieces and left in piles of ruin, some over fifteen feet high.

Re: Broiled in Butter
Atan stops to inspect the door. Looking over the battered remains he also checks the floor for any signs of a siege machine or equipment that may have been used to open the massive door.

Re: Broiled in Butter
The door is badly rusted and appears to have been smashed inward then torn outward. Atan finds signs of repeated bludgeoning by some massive object, perhaps some kind of ram.

Before they go further, Khelzhad points out:

"Should we close the secret door behind us? T'would be a shame to let this foul fungus crawl into the noble halls of the Dragonwets."

[OOC: Does Madragar feel that enough time has passed that the elemental will have returned to its native plane?]

"We may need to return this way in a hurry," Madragar reminds Khelzad.

Re: Broiled in Butter
[Yes, the elemental has almost certainly returned to its home plane by now. -GM]

From the back of the party Janes pipes in.

"Be quiet," he hisses, then strains to listen for something. The companions fall silent but no one can hear anything above the grumbling of Draxim's stomach. Slowly Janes picks his way through the group, past the fungal root and up to the smashed iron door where Atan is standing.

"Hear that?" Janes asks the elf ranger. Just on edge of hearing Atan can now make out a shallow, distant rasping sound like labored breathing. It's coming from beyond the ruined steel door.

Re: Broiled in Butter
Once its pointed out, that there is something to listen to. Pogar stops and drops silent, drops into a defensive position and waits.

As Atan reacts to hearing something, Pogar becomes a bit eager, but with the typical dwarven persistance, he remains still, in the defensive position.

"Draxim"

Ulwe hisses as quietly as he can yet still be audible to the burly Dwarf.

"You should slip in there and have a look with your Darkvision. Don't go far."

Janes looks at Ulwe in surprise, "Do you honestly think there is any reason to be sneaky abuot this after sending a living embodiment of fire through the place? I doubt that anything is on less than it's complete guard right now. I suggest we finish breaking down that door and go in strong."

Re: Broiled in Butter
[Based on the breathing does it sound as if something may be a sleep?]

"Mad is already inside the room", Atan whispers. "Drax can scout ahead of me, I will be at the edge of the light. That way I can keep an eye on him and you all can see me."

[What is the range of our light source? I will move at the edge of the light with Draxim at the edge of my vision. Probably he can scout 120 feet ahead if we have 60 feet of light.]
