Re: Last ride of the red shirt.
Khelzhad examines the steel door closely, looking for signs of age.

[Is there any rust on the door? Do any of the dents appear fresh (i.e. rust has fallen off)?]

Re: Last ride of the red shirt.
Khelzhad finds that the door rusted after it was battered down. The surrounding door frame is made of solid steel and looks like it would be nearly water tight if the door was shut (of course, back when it was undamaged).

"I don't like it. Let's get him out of here."

Draxim binds the man's hands as discussed. After discovering the water is poison, he gags the man as well, since he won't be getting any water anyway.

"We won't hurt ya if your a good boy. You look like you've been hurt enough anyway. D'ya unnerstand?"

So saying he searches the man, gently picks him up over his shoulder and removes him from the room as long as there are no objections.

[Joyner's not around to do it. Just one of those things...]

"Our entire water supply is poisoned," Ulwe says flatly.

"What?" Madragar is incredulous. "How?"

"Ulwe, can you summon more?"

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
Ulwe nods his head.

"I can. Our water was not poisoned mere minutes ago. It is this blasphemous place that caused it, sick as it is with the touch of Salhaug. I am sure of it."

Khelzhad speaks to Janes and Atan waiting with him out near the door:

"These markings are old - I don't think our behemoth made this mess."

"Is all our water poisoned? Even ours that are outside the room?"

[Yes. A quick inspection leads Atan to believe that it is not only poisonous, but salty like seawater. -GM]

"We need to get this man out of the Poison Zone, then, and get him some fresh water. Mayhap he can shed light on what is happening here."

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
With Pogar standing outside the door, staring down the hallway, Pogar thinks back in time.

When he was younger, he was an eager member of his kings army. Many times, when the merchants moved across the harsh underground, Pogar was called upon to guard the merchant wagons.

One day, there was a party for a small band of dwarves that were heading out, Buglug's Brigade, they called themselves. Headed by the very strange but powerful cleric Buglug. As many of the dwarf's drowned themselves in the thick mead Buglug's Brigade was to be honored that night, as they were stepping forth, to face Chaos head on.

After that day, Khelzhad came to him with questions of the outside, since Khelzhad had been training while Pogar was outside the safe halls of their lands.

While Pogar offered up the information, as best he could remember, as the gnomes had a particular ale that was stronger than most, so when the merchant caravan reached the destination in the gnomish lands, a big feast was had.

Eventually, the expected glorious return of Buglug's Brigade never happened and rumors of their demise started trickling throughout the dwarfs.

One day, Khelzhad came rushing up to Pogar, out of breath. "I have been looking for you everywhere" he said between gasps of breath. "I have been reading tales and reading up on the history of these lands and I think I know where they went. I want to find them, and I want you to join me." Khelzhad said proudly.

Pogar, quite confused at this eager and adventurous dwarf standing in front of him, was at a loss of words. But, within Pogar's heart, although he was slowly establishing himself as a minor merchant, that was not how Pogar wanted to lead his life. Hearing stories of grand adventures that his grandpappy told. Even the story of the Red Dragon that his grandpappy met and almost died to, if it wasn't for Buglug, he would have died.

After thinking for a moment, Pogar finally grumbled to his cousin "Sure, why no'? It'd be a bit o' fun ta get out an see the world." Khelzhad was estatic and even though they had prepared for the worst, some in the clan thought the two were crazy. Others felt that they were on a suicide mission.

"Never thought meself n Khelzhad'd ever see the Kharzol in me own life time" Pogar says outloud. Realizing that he is alone and has just set himself vunerable for attack, Pogar quickly moves back to the group.

"Ain't nottin down there, lads" Pogar says while pointing down the hall with his oversized sword.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
Khelzhad reaches into his pouch for a ubiquitous copper piece, blows on it once or twice and whispers into it:

"Lhaz'ze"

The coin begins to glow. [Light]

Khelzhad offers the luminescent coin to Janes so that he will not be blind:

"Here's a tip for yeh inkeeper - the next time we enter a cave and I offer up my sack of torches - take some. Now don't go tossin' this one, I can't warm another one up for a while."

[1 cp marked]

With a wink and slap on the human's shoulder the Ghuraskalli bard carefully enters the room. He marvels at the steel construction exposed by the flame of his torch and he mutters to himself:

"A fortress of lead, now a room of steel - and no time to plunder as usual (sigh)." Then he stops stone still in his tracks. "Room of steel...quite the opposite of a fortress - this looks like a prison!"

Khelzhad waves his torch to signal the others to come back.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
[Draxim, I thought you were waiting for a potential objection. You said "removes him from the room" but not where you went. I could have replied "Draxim carries the man into the hallway" I suppose, but then what?]

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
Draxim will try to take the man into the hallway after tying him up, and then set him down again. He simply doesn't want to be in that room. He doesn't know why either, it's just a hunch.

After he gets him out he will try to get him talking.

"You'd better tell us yer story, if you want this to go well."

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
[Do the burns appear to be old, as in NOT just caused by an encounter with an elemental of fire?]

Ulwe looks at the blind burned man and suddenly remembers Sangraal's strange tale before his miraculous appearance below Yashai's palace.

"Let us remove him to the hallway with haste and care!"

Ulwe helps Draxim carry the unfortunate stranger out of the steel chamber, back to the hallway where the group first entered.

[Are there any other noticable exits from the steel room? ]

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
Draxim, carrying the broken man over his shoulder, begins the interrogation yet the stranger is on death's door and doesn't hear him.

His burns are relatively old - several weeks at least. Ulwe doesn't see any other exits from the room, but out in the hall Pogar (who went down the corridor to the west a bit) sees another alcove that may be a second entrance.

["back to the hallway where the group first entered." Where's that? Just outside the steel-clad room or back behind the secret door?

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
[Just outside the steel room...]

"Sangraal." Ulwe motions over the Yelmite. "Does he look familiar?" He asks. He helps Draxim place down the injured stranger and pours out his tainted water.

He suggests everyone else do the same and then once the Companions water skins are assembled he calls upon Orlanth the Life-Giver to replenish their supply of clean water.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
[Six gallons is about enough for everyone's waterskins. Close enough.]

Ulwe utters a prayer for water and quickly eight waterskins are filled with cool, pure, and mercifully non-poisoned, water.
