Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
The man recoils from Sangraal, his trembling voice and pitiful wailing becoming all the more sorrowful.

"Edrigan... oh Lord of Oaths... poor Edrigan, forgive me..."

The stranger begins to weep and mutter incoherantly.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
Sangraal attempts to be as gentle as possible with the weeping stranger, removing his helmet he sets it beside him.

"What came of Edrigan?" he asks softly yet obviously attempting to pull information from the stranger without upsetting him further.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
"Betrayal... foul and without mercy..." the man sobs, flecks of spittle dribble from his ruined mouth.

"I... no, the Shadow... the Shadow poisoned him... brought the Golden to the Torai... the Cabal, to flay and torture and... oh Lord of Oaths..."

The wretch clutches at Sangraal and nearly pulls the priest over with the desperate strength of his grasping hands.

"I wanted... it wanted the disks... but it could not get into the tower... no... Edrigan would not talk... but oh how he screamed..."

Tears touched with blood poor down the man's face as he delves into memories that are obviously painful to him.

"The machines... oh dear faith... the machines... forgive me."

Looking down at the man, who appears to be remorsful of what he had done, Pogar moves in a little closer.

"Do ye know if'n the shadows got'n all the disks that be needed ta get the machines runnin'?" Pogar asks, trying to follow Sangraal's compassionate lead, by trying to soften his naturally rough voice.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
The man doesn't seem to hear Pogar's question. When Sangraal says the word "Gorgon" the stranger simply loses it. Falling over, weeping and blubbering, he curls into fetal ball and wails pitiously.

*Plot*
Sangraal his eyes filled with pity withdraws his hand from the stranger and stands up.

"Madragar, what do you know of the Gorgon?"

[OOC: Well, this seems to tie a lot of strings together. If anybody is lost, post an OOC saying so and Sangral will recap what he thinks is going on.

Re: Last ride of the red shirt freshman.
As Pogar looks down on this mutilated form of a human, Pogar is overwhelmed with compassion. Seeing this guy suffer, Pogar's initial reaction is to release him from his pain, but, he also knows that if he moves against the suffering man, some in the party would not view Pogar's action as a mercyful one.

"If'n ye see a gurrow downed" his cleric friend, Khavar, once said to Pogar, "It'd be better'd kill it ta end it's sufferin', lad. If'n yer bang'd down'n ye be knowin yer no gettin' up, ye'd wanna meet yer ancestors sooner, 'n in no pain, right?" Khavar had finished.

Pogar took that to heart, and one day, when he was out on patrol, he came across a downed gnome. Pogar was unable to determine what had attacked the gnome, who Pogar thought was but a meer child. Ga'Khar, who Pogar was with Pogar, scouting for the main troop, wanted to get a healer.

When Ga'Khar turned to go get a healer he slipped in the massive pool of blood that they had just realized they were standing in.

"He's no gonna make it" Ga'Khar said somberly and his sad face turned to shock as Pogar grabbed the head of this dying creature.

Pogar looked into its face, trying to look into its eyes but couldnt find anything. "Ima doin this ta end yer sufferin, lad. Does ye understand?"

Unfortunately for both Pogar and Ga'Khar, there was no response, just forced breathing. Ga'Khar cried out in shock as Pogar took his dagger from the small of his back and slit its throat. Ga'Khar moved to grab Pogar and with great venom in his eyes, but Pogar was able to move out of the way.

Fortunately for Pogar, Umbak, the patrol leader, showed up and saw what happened. Ga'Khar told Umbak what had happened and that Pogar should be kicked out of the troop and cast out of the clan. Wise old Umbak calmed Ga'Khar and pulled Pogar to the side.

"I be knowin why ye did it. Im no seein ye as a bad dwarf, an I agree with what you done. But, no many goodly people'll see why yer doin it. If'n ye can, grant yer mercy when no one be lookin" Umbak said, which stuck with Pogar since that day.

Looking at the man, again, Pogar sighs and moves back, to give others access to the dying man. "He's no answerin me questions" Pogar started thinking, but declares "Bah" as his conclusion. Pogar then walks to the metal doors and peers inside, looking for any movement.

perdition
Sangraal leans back down to the sobbing burned stranger and whispers to him

"Bottomless perdition you need not dwell for I am a cleric of Yelm, a servent of the father of compassion, your redeption lies within you. Tell us of what you know, guide us to stop the shadows plans and Yelm shall know your worth, ."

[OOC: Diplomacy +6 Sangraal tries to convince the "Gorgon" to tell him what he knows in an attempt at redemption.]

[OOC: Does Madragar know whether this man is the Gorgon? I think Madragar would recognize him, but that's up to you.]

[The stranger has no facial features. They've all been burned away. Madragar believes it certainly could be him. -GM]

Re: perdition
Madragar, so gentle even with Druuga, snarls like an angry dog and seizes the burned robes in his fists, half lifting the agonized man off the ground.

"You!" he thunders. "Where is he? You tell me where he is or by all the hells I will make these burns look like child's play! Where is he?"

Madragar's voice cracks on the last syllable, and his right hand, releasing the robes, bursts into bright orange flames.

Re: perdition
Sangraal's soothing tones are quickly bludgeoned aside by Madragar's threats. The burned man claws weakly at the wizards hands and turns his head from side to side, trying to get away him. The pain of his wounds and psychological torment he's been reliving finally take their toll on the stranger and he passes out.

Still gripping the man's robes with one hand, Madragar watches him slide pitiously to the floor.

Re: perdition
"Sangraal, why don't we heal this guy, and take him with us? He obviously knows a lot. He's gonna need healin' if we let Mad here question him any further."

[ Note that this is the first time that Draxim has ever used the mage's diminutive nickname. I think. Draxim is very familiar with bombastic personality types, and how to safely shock them out of their raging behavior, having had an alcoholic father. ]

"Also, I don't understand. Is this pathetic lump the Gorgon? How could he be?"

[YT: Sorry you don't get away that easy. I would much rather hear it in character.]

Re: perdition
Hearing Madragar fly into a rage, Pogar quickly turns, thinking that somehow this burned lump of flesh had unleashed some unseen power at Madragar. Sword raised Pogar moves forward to chop down the "gorgon", but stops when he see's that its Madragar who is on the agressive.

"Never thought he'd be a one ta get like that" Pogar thinks to himself. "Good ta see. Wizards'r strange folk, but, me thinks baldy aint too bad"

With a shrug, Pogar turns his back to the group and looks down the hallway we just came from.

"I wonner what be down where we jus' came from" Pogar says, realizing that he just ran through that room with no thoughts of safety to himself. His distrust of the elemental filled his head and he just had to make sure that the elemental would not surprise them.

"Khelzhad" Pogar calls out. "Ye wanna check out down stairs, wit me?" As a side thought Pogar looks to the group and says "Any o' ye wanna join?"

Khelzhad is fascinated by the burned man, remembering how he was able to transport Sangraal into the battle, but any questions the bard might have had will have to wait until he revives.

Khelzhad heads back to the balcony to check on things and make sure the fungi are still dead and the way clear.

Look at the colors
As Khelzhad was obviously on the same page as Pogar, but maybe didnt hear him, he will move off with his cousin, to the lower area to check things out.

Although, Pogar is confident that Khelzhad is more than cabable of handling himself in battle, he still is quite protective of his cousin. As they grew together, many of their friends thought of Khelzhad and Pogar as brothers, not cousins.

It was obviousl at a young age that Khelzhad was more the cautious one and has kept Pogar out of numerous situations where Pogar could have either gotten killed or caused a lot of trouble. Khelzhad, when they were young, was Pogar's concious, keeping him out of trouble.

When Pogar joined the army, Khelzad in his school, they lost touch, but their bond was unbreakable. Now, as they both are so far away from their home, they still, are together. This will always make Pogar smile and feel comfortable, as if he is at home.

Re: Look at the colors
Draxim considers joining the other dwarves, Khelzhad and Pogar joining the Companions of the Light has been an incredible boon to his spirits, since the death of Ruig. He often takes the chance to converse with them in the same tounge in which he was chided and praised as a child, but he instead waits with the rest not wholly trusting the dark leech possessed man before them and also wanting to hear Sangraal and Madragar's theories on the Gorgon.

Re: Look at the colors
As Khelzhad and Pogar move down the stairs together, Pogar notices Draxim's head pop up and watch for a moment, then with a resigned look, he remains where he is.

Leaning over to his cousin, Pogar whispers, in his seldomly used native language, "If we find some gems, we keep'em for ourselves, agreed?

As Khelzhad looks at Pogar with a slightly confused look, knowing Pogar the way he does, as Pogar never did show the over bearing and typical signs of greed, like most dwarves have, for gems and gold. However, Khelzhad does notice the unique grin on his face, a grin that Khelzhad knows all too well. Usually that grin means more mischief and Khelzhad knows that he has to squelch the desire before Pogar lands himself or the party into more trouble.
