Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Pogar will rush back to where the corpse's are and search for any Legionairs that are wearing a tunic. If he finds one, he will remove it from the corpse and start proceed in tearing pieces off to use as a facemask for the group. If there are no Leigionairs with tunics, Pogar will remove his musty tunic and start tearing.

"I be asking yer forgiveness King Gurkahr, but me thinks me tunic will be better served as a barriro ta poision than not." Turning to his new clan, Pogar says "Ima no tha cleanest n Ima stinky, but me thinks its better fer some type o protection, ifn we be need'n it." in an apologetic tone, but without really apologizing.

With the torn tunic, Pogar wraps it around his face and tucks his growing beard under his armor.

[OOC: Pogar will try to rip some strips of the tunic and hand them to everyone to wrap around their face to aid in blocking the spores, if they erupt.]

[No can do. The dead legionnaires (who are really just dead Moagarans) are beyond the claw lock door and it doesn't open for Pogar. It takes Pogar a couple minutes to find this out. -GM]

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Khelzhad has a good sense for the kinds of fungus in the room, most of which are harmless subterranean varieties. They are, however, of a different color than he is accustomed to seeing. Many brightly hued fungi, as well as a number of phlorescent lichens, are considerably darker and more subdued. Sangraal and Ulwe quickly chalk this up to long term exposure to some Chaotic influence.

Khelzhad points out a few more dangerous varieties - particularly a spotty orange fungus that releases toxic spores when disturbed. Still, much of the room is hidden from his view.

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Frustrated, Pogar removes his tunic and starts ripping it up, hopefully enough for all the party.

"Wrap this around yer mouth n nose n we may be ok from tha spores" Pogar says flatly. Pogar is obviously distrubed in ruining his tunic, which has the clans crest on it.

"May you be forgivin me, me king, fer doing this, but ye be knowin that yer aidin in protect'n us"

[Mmmm... bet that smells good. -GM]

Sangraal kindly refuses to wrap Pogars tunic scraps around his face.

"This damp room exists becuase of a great influx of Chaos. Why cut off the tail of the serpent when you can chop off the head and the rest will whither? Leave this room be, lets find the source."

[OOC: If there is no dicernable exit from this room, then Sangraal will back up and tap out the pattern to close the door.

Who has the two marbles that are the D&D equivilent to a hand gernade? I know we have two of them. They will be very useful since we know we are going into the BIG BATTLE soon.]

[Note that both Draxim and Ulwe have now ignited additional light sources to "pass out to the others" but no one has taken them up. Khelzhad has a torch already in one hand and a javelin in the other. Perhaps we do not need these all lit at the moment...]

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Draxim shakes his torch at people until someone takes one. He declines Pogar's proffered rag, preferring the well aged scent of his own blue (?) hanky which he wets and ties around his mouth and nose, bandit style.

"Still smells like the fires of Dobrug" he comments.

He asks the companions for silence for a moment, while he and Janes listen again. Now that the door is open, maybe he can hear the telltale sounds of a large creature moving.

Draxim and Janes listen but hear nothing beyond the crackling of their torches. Fungus is actually quite stealthy.

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Ulwe also politely refuses Pogar's undergarment rag.

"No thank you Stonecrusher, I have my own."

He produces a green sash from his priest's robes and vestments folded neatly and tucked away in his pack. He wets the cloth to help trap particles and then wraps his face in the vain hope fungus spores will be stopped by cloth.

Since nobody takes his lantern, Ulwe pours the oil back in a flask and stows the lantern in his pack. He stashes the flask in his large belt pouch to keep it at the ready.

With his spear tip aglow, he nods in agreement with Atan.

"Aye let's go in single file and get through this place as fast as we can."

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Wrapping the rag around his nose and mouth, Pogar is unaffected by the smell. Pogar looks to his companions, nods and gives Khelzhad a quick wink then turns toward the door. Pogar holds his sword in a defensive position in front of him and steps through the door and stops. He will look to his right, then left, to see if he can see anything else.

If he see's nothing that seems to be moving, he will quickly move through doing his best to avoid touching the fungi.

[OOC: if he does see something that could be a potential threat, he will back out the door and let everyone know.

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Atan stops Pogar with a hand on his shoulder, "I'll go. Sangraal hold your flail at the door so I may see."

Atan moves carefully into the room, an arrow nocked, scouting a path to the far door.

[With his low light vision Atan should have plenty of light. He also moves half speed on full alert for any movement (especially from the fungus or more centipedes on the floor)]

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
[I'm going to use the marching order above, with Atan temporarily up front.]

The door is open only a foot, so in order to pass through Atan must give it a push. He does so and in response a fat mass of orange fungus behind the door puts off a cloud of noxious spores. Atan manages to quickly turn away from the stuff and backs into the corridor again. In a few seconds the spores have settled and he moves ahead into the room.

Atan tries his best to move carefully, and to come into as little contact as possible with the piles of quivering fungus and long mushroom stalks, but it's hopeless. After ten feet of pushing and slithering through the muck Atan emerges onto a rare spot of solid ground. His beautiful new armor is slick with mold and strange, foul smelling mucous-like goo, and several ugly bugs are crawling up his legs. He takes a moment to clear off the worst of it and looks around at his surroundings.

Atan spots three exits from the room besides the secret door. To the east is a large stone double door, but the portal is partially obscured by a massive block of cut stone, holding it shut. To the west, at floor level, a fifteen foot wide corridor disappears into darkness (and more fungus). Above the corridor, and accessed by a stone staircase in the southwest corner, a balcony runs along the west wall of the room. Atan can just make out a passage at the north end of the balcony.

The ranger's keen eyesight picks out a number of interesting details in the room. First, emerging from the western corridor and leading to the eastern door, are a set of massive footprints. They are of some bipedal creature with feet like a human's, but much larger. Atan believes the thing must have been well over ten feet tall and weighed several thousand pounds. Some kind of giant maybe. The tracks are old enough that a thick layer of fungus has grown over some of them.

One other detail about the tracks Atan finds interesting. They are much deeper leading to the eastern door than they are travelling west. Putting two and two together, Atan surmises the giant was carrying the massive stone and blocked the eastern door with it before returning from whence it came.

Nudging aside a slug the size of a loaf of bread, Atan steps onto the bare patch of flagstones and catches sight of a sinister, sinuous thing on the balcony to the west. It is a grayish-green vine, some ten feet long and standing straight up as it gently sways from side to side. Atan recognizes it as the same mysterious plant that the companions found infesting the village of Thaedrun on the way south to the Cairnhollow. What little they learned of it at that time indicated that it was carnivorous and fed on its victims by encasing them in some kind of mucous sack. Its means of attack, however, remains a mystery.

As Atan considers how to approach the thing, or how to avoid it, he feels something slither across his shoe. For a split second he fails to recognize the danger and then it is too late. A long tentacle ending in a broad, leaf-like pad covered in sharp spines lashes out from the undergrowth and wraps itself around his ankle. Atan yelps in surprise and in a flash the thing recoils, pulling the elf to the ground and plunging the spines into his flesh. Two more of the tentacles burst through a curtain of lichen but Atan desperately knocks them aside with his bow.

The source of the three tentacles appears to be a squat, mustard colored mushroom about fifteen feet to the south of Atan's position.

[That was the surprise round. In the first round everyone but Sangraal beat the thing's initiative.

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
Hearing Atan yelp, and sensing his danger, Pogar stifles the urge to run to his aid. Pogar will, carefully and as quickly as he can, navigate to Atan. As Pogar see's the tenticle wrapped around his foot, Pogar will slash down to cut the tentacle, careful to not cut off Atans foot.

[Great Sword +8 (to hit) (1)2d6 +5, (2)1d10 +5 attacking the tenticle that is wrapped around Atans foot.]

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
[Pogar is only +3 to hit and damage? If you say so...]

Pogar bounds forward and, standing just west of Atan, makes a mighty swing that cuts the tentacle just inches from the elf's ankle. Orange goo squirts out of the severed appendage.

Madragar's magic darts zip through the dense fungi forest like little deadly birds. The three missiles strike the heart of the grim mustard-colored thing simultaneously causing big chunks of it to explode outward, staining the surrounding mushrooms and lichen.

Re: The Vault of Salhaug
[Oops. Forgot about Pogar's Great Cleave.]

Scattering orange mustard over Atan and the surrounding fungi, Pogar whirls his blade in a wide circle after felling the first tentacle. His upstroke cuts another writhing appendage in half. Then, stepping over the downed elf, he delivers a powerful and unsubtle downward hack that cuts through the third tentacle and halfway down the length of a helpless mushroom sitting nearby. All three of the deadly appendages fall to the ground, lifeless and still.

[Take that you Mushroom!!! :)

Scott, just wanted to let you know, I edited last post with the updated modifiers...anyways, LAY ON!]

[Ok. He's +7/+4, I believe, not +8/+5. Also, why does his dice of damage change from 2D6 to 1D10? -GM]

Re: YARG!!!!
[ Don't associate Pogar with Chaos or we will have to have words mister! ]

Draxim moves up next to Atan, deftly avoiding the whirling blade of Pogar. He does his best to find a shooting lane, and fires his crossbow at the horrible mustard-flavored mushroom.

[ Move 3S and 1 either SW or SE depending on where Pogar isn't. Use Tumble if necessary to avoid threats and get into the best position. ]

Fire Light crossbow with masterwork bolt.
+10 to hit 1d8+1 damage
to hit = +4base +2dex +1P.B.S +1MWBow +1MWbolt +1vs. Chaos creatures

damage = 1d8 base, +1 P.B.S.

Question, since this thing is immobile, do I get a sneak attack automatically? if so add 2d6 to the damage. I guess I wouldn't really know the best place to hit a mushroom though.
