Re: Look at the colors
Khelzhad stops at balcony and does not proceed down the stairs.

"Hold on now, kinsman. I just want to make sure our rear is guarded, but I'm not tryin to leave the others stuck in this foul place."

A cuning plan
Sangraal watches as Madragar man handles the cripple into unconciousness. About to issue a sharp rebuke the warrior priest insteads hits upon a plan.

Moving well away from the unconcious fellow Sangraal proceeds to outline his plan.

"If Silkreiks Ring that Khelzhad wears can allows the user to alter his voice then we could try to trick this poor fellow into divulging some information. Madragar puts on the ring since he is best suited for this. Madragar knows Edrigan, how he spoke and manorisms, I heal the Gorgon back to concousness and when he awakens we trick him into thinking that Edrigan is alive and well, and that he escaped and will forgive the Gorgon if he agrees to help us."

"The plan hinges on two things, one the ring allows you to mimic Edrigans voice, two Madragar doesn't throttle the wretch back into a coma. Madragar are you game for this?"

[OOC: Madragar uses the ring and a disguise skill check to attempt to trick this person into thinknig that he is Edrigan and he will forgive him if he helps the party out. ]

Mushrooms! Mushrooms for Sale!!
As the duo reach the top of the stairs, Khelzhad reaches out and grabs Pogars arm and speaks. Pogar looks at Khelzhad, then turns to the group and watches as Sangraal tells the group about his plan.

Try as he might, he can not read Sangraal's lips and has no idea whats happening.

"Eye, lad."Pogar shrugs. Changing to common again, Pogar whispers "Me thinks that things'll stay dead down there" as he points down stairs. Then, switching back to his native language, Pogar asks his cousin "Are ye want'n ta go back with them er ye gonna stay 'ere?"

Re: Mushrooms! Mushrooms for Sale!!
[Not that Sangraal's plan isn't a good one, but here's what he knows about Shadows and picked up from his Sense Motive.

Shadow possession can take a terrible toll on the soul (not to mention the sanity) of the unfortunate victim. The burned man could very well be willing to help but throwing words like "Gorgon" and "Edrigan" in his face is likely to shatter what little mind he's got left.

Sangraal also thinks it very likely that it is the Shadow, and not the man possessed by it, that is called the Gorgon.]

Re: Mushrooms! Mushrooms for Sale!!
[And Madragar, under his fury, knows that, too. But he has feared this man for so long that his usual cool detachment has completely fled. And unlike the warriors, he has very little experience with the emotions he is currently experiencing: he badly wants to hurt someone.]

Madragar shakes the man once more, oblivious to or beyond caring about his unconsciousness. "Speak, gods damn your guts! You won't escape that easily! Talk to me, you murdering bastard!"

Seeing the man loll like a child's toy, Madragar sputters uselessly and lets the man drop the ground. Unnoticed, the flame in his hand gutters out.

Madragar curses with salty words he has not heard since childhood on the wharves and stalks off away from the group, ignoring those talking to him. His face is hot and flushed.

When everything looks bleak remember the boobs.
Sangraal goes after the tattoo covered mage and again speaks of the plan.

"Your the only one who could pull this off, you know your masters voice, the way he talks, carries himself... If this shell of a man holds any clue how to defeat the shadow and its plan we must try. Right now we are flying with our eyes half open, we know bits and pieces, I think this guy is our cypher."

Sangraal goes one step further and mentions a name not spoken in a long while.

"Vala.. yeah we break the shadow and its allies here then she'd forever be safe from them. You could have a normal life. You owe her to use your brains and fight this enemy using all resources, including the Gorgons discarded husks if need be."

Draxim asks Atan to check the "Gorgon's husk" for vital signs with chiding look at Madragar and Sangraal for their callousness toward an innocent victim.

"It's said that music can sooth the svage beast. Perhaps Khelzhad might be of use here. His music might calm the tortured mind."

Ulwe raises an eyebrow at Draxim's suggestion that Atan inspect the broken man. Though he is wise and virtuous, Ulwe is still sometimes subject petty feelings of pride, and as such, he cannot help himself and tells the dwarf:

"With all due repect to the Captian, I am the better healer." Ulwe then proceeds to shoo away the enraged mage Madragar and does a cursory inspection of the man. He tries his best to set the broken leg, but saves his better salves and ointments for his Companions, and outright refuses his divine healing, seeing as how the blinded burned stranger eminated some taints of Chaos.

36C's get me through alot.......
Atan looks back and forth in bewilderment as Madragar and Sangraals "Good Guard, Bad Guard" routine puts the teams living clue into unconciousness.

Walking over to the poor man at Draxim's request, he kneels and checks for vital signs but is intercepted by the Orlanthian elf. Defering to the better healer, "Hey, Mad. Sangral is right. This man may have the answers, or at least a portion of it, and beating him won't get us there.", he states flatly.

Walking over towards the debating cleric and mage while still talking, "The Gorgon put Druuga here, and maybe this man as well. If he is the shell which the shadow used then he has seen and done things that we need to know......but we don't have the kind of time to put this guys mind back together. We need to get this guy talking and soon. He has been tortured to the edge, any further and he is broken, if he hasn't totally gone already. Sangraal's plan is sound. The guy may crack at the sight of Edrigan, but he may need to unburden his soul too. I say we do this Sangraal's way."

Ulwe looks over the stranger's hurts and quickly concludes that nothing short of divine healing will bring him back from the edge of whatever abyss he approaches. His leg is shattered, but it is his mind and soul that have been most seriously abused. A splint and a poultice simply won't suffice.

Re: 36C's get me through alot.......
Haring apparently nothing except the Companions' debate. Khelzhad wanders back to the group with his burly cousin.

"I like the Innkeeper's suggestion better - a pleasant sound may rouse his earlier memories. Revive him with water I will try my best."

Khelzhad utters a thanks to Orlanth and drinks deep from the fresh new water in his skin and prepares to try his trade, despite the unfathomly glum surroundings.

Khelzhad recites one of the many parts of the of the Song of Steel as a repetitive chant to try and calm the tortured human's soul. To assist in the mental effect, he unslings his small bodhran and taps a beat lightly with his fingers:

"Sing of steel, iron born
fire bright, forge away
bless the steel we make today
haul away haul away, hammer and ho
stronger with each fold
hammer away and haul away
haul away ho"

"Orlanth forgive me." Ulwe intones his patron as he lays hands on the stranger and summons a healing spell.

The burned man
The catatonic stranger breathes deeply as Ulwe straightens his shattered knee, and Khelzhad's sonorous words pour over him. The bard is a little surprised, however, when the burned man begins to hum along with him and then, whispering, he takes up the song.

"Haul away, the mule will bray
hammer ring, anvil sing
gleaming steel for the mountain king
Haul away, haul away
iron boots on granite stair
hands of ancient skill and strength
Haul away..."

Seeming to awaken from a long sleep, the man sits upright and rubs the long scars of his ruined face, but says nothing.

Re: The burned man
The stranger groans as he tries to rub some feeling back into his badly wounded leg.

"Names have betrayed me," the man replies with remarkable lucidity considering his ordeal. "I have little use for them now. And don't call me lad."

"Eye, ye may have no need fer 'em, but we're a needin 'em. If'n ye can help..." Pogar trails off.

"Ima no get nothin' from him....'e's no gonna answer..." Pogar thinks to himself. "Me thinks his head wantsta be chopped off" Continues to himself, slightly amusing himself with his thoughts.
