Underground, Part III
<span style="color:navy;">[After doing battle with an immense, twelve-headed chillserpent while possessing the bodies of a band of dragonewt warriors, and hurling themselves through a strange black gate, the companions found themselves in the depths of a subterranean complex. Time was spent scouting and recovering from their injuries - due to a battle with some undead Lunar legionnaires, though they have no recollection of the event. Soon they came upon a bound and blindfolded wretch named Druuga who had a bit of a past with Madragar.

The party slept and, after much discussion, decided to let Druuga live. They set out southward and entered another chamber that was empty save a single dragonewt statue...]

Atan advances into the eastern corridor with the rest of the party forming up behind him. The cautious elf advances only a short distance before slowing his pace and pulling an arrow from his quiver to lay across his recurved bow of wood and horn. At the limit of his darkvision Atan sees some object down the passageway. Unaccustomed to the odd negative image provided by Madragar's sorcerous darkvision, Atan can't make much of the object, though it looks solid and immobile. He begins to advance again.

Suddenly a volley of arrow fire emerges from the darkness of the corridor.

"Get back!" Atan yells to his companions before a half dozen bolts come ripping through the air around him. Three fly wide and ricochet off the ancient statue, but three find their marks. Atan is struck twice in the right leg, both missiles plunging into the meat of his thigh. A third arrow punches a neat hole through his leather armor and enters his abdomen. Reeling from the wounds and bleeding profusely, Atan manages to hurl himself back into the chamber and behind a corner, safe for the moment.

The source of the attack isn't clear, as it is now beyond the range of anyone's darkvision. Everyone, however, hears an odd mechanical sound come echoing down the corridor. It is a loud and repetitious sound of metal striking metal... clink clink clink clink clink clink...

[Atan is critically wounded. Draxim is lightly wounded. Sangraal and Ulwe are moderately wounded.

Pogar will move up to where Atan is and will crouch down and hide behind his shield as best as possible and will try to provide cover for Atan.

Re: Underground
Janes is pretty sure that's the sound of something mechanical getting reloaded, so he takes off in a sprint.

Re: Underground
Pogar will remain where he is, until they release the crossbows. After the barage of bolts, Pogar will rush out, and moves to engage.

[Hold action till they fire the crossbows. Then he will move 1s 7e (max move 40' that should be 40 at a run 5' per square) ]

[Pogar has already acted this turn. He's covering Atan. -GM]

Re: Underground
Madragar, on the verge of unleashing a devastating spell, considers that Janes probably wouldn't survive it, and stands down.

[OOC: Always hold an action for the mage to unleash...]

Instead, he turns to Atan and reads a scroll of Endurance over the ranger.

Re: Underground
"Duergar!" Ulwe exclaims, having put together Druuga's earlier statements with the crossbow bolts now flying at the Companions.

"Orlanth, cloak us with your mists, our enemies attack!" He cries out to his Patron after moving to the middle of the tunnel.

[Moves 35' East, casts Obscuring Mist: stationary 30' x 20' cloud centered on Ulwe, blocks all vision including darkvision. ]

Re: Underground
Atan, though still seriously wounded, is strengthened by Madragar's sorcery. The elf manages to rise, but keeps his back to the wall and out of the line of fire.

Ulwe plunges into the darkness and with a bold command the Wind Lord fills the corridor with a nearly impenetrable mist. Janes, up against the distant barricade and alone with his adversaries, watches curiously as his companions vanish from sight.

Re: Underground
[please refresh - was switching weapons the whole round for me, or do I have another action?]

[It depends. You can drop a weapon as a free action, and draw a weapon as part of a move, but you couldn't sheath one weapon, draw another, and attack all in the same round. Some folks have started slinging their crossbows on ropes around their shoulders so they can shoot and then drop the weapon. -GM]

[Khelzhad does have a sling on the x-bow, but he also has to unsling his shield so it sounds like a full action since he does not want to just toss the x-bow on the ground]

Re: Underground
[Presumably Sangraal drops his pack so he is no longer encumbered?]

Ulwe's spell fills the corridor, entirely stifling even the smallest amount of light. Into this abyss Sangraal plunges headlong, completely blind.

"Blessed mists of Orlanth" marvels Draxim he drops his pack and sets off down the corridor through the mists staying low to avoid (hopefully) bolts out of the darkness and fog.

Re: Underground
With the clamor of his companions bustling here and there in their armor, and his own helmet bouncing around on his head, Sangraal can't hear much around him. However, somewhere ahead in the fog he hears a few terse commands given in Lunar.

Janes, much closer to the adversary, hears the Lunar clearly but can't understand it. He hears a number of hobnail boots retreating toward the east. Whatever siege machine the soldiers had been loading is also withdrawn from the combat, its banded wheels clicking on the flagstones.

Two crossbows, just a few feet above his head, twang sending their bolts zipping into the fog. Draxim was wise to stay low as both missiles fly harmlessly over his head.

Finally, coming around the corner of the barricade, a rotting legionnaire hisses at Janes and makes a vicious stab with its shortsword. Janes barely parries the attack and leaps back out of the creature's reach.

Re: Underground
Draxim eases his pace slinking through the fog with the practiced steps of a footpad. He hopes his footfalls are muffled enough to conceal his presence for that critical split second of engagement. With the butterflies in his stomach that always precede anticipated melee, he reaches the edge of the fog...

[ If he can see #3 fire the crossbow point blank.

If not let me know and I will figure out what he does next. This is weird though because he could theoretically move 5 feet, realize the situation and move back or change weapons, but not fire according to the rules...help! ]
