Re: It's over...but the crying
Khelzhad reloads his crossbow.

"I agree with Madragar - we must press on, at least until we find the armory. Remember our experience with the Dragonewts - they would not give up and we must do likewise."

Re: It's over...but the crying
Ulwe fetches his pack by the barricade. With a simple nod, he indicates his agreement to press on.

Ulwe lays his hands upon Sangraal and prays to Orlanth to close his ally's bloody wounds. [Cure moderate wounds 2D8+3] Then he inspects Atan and likewise calls upon his Patron Deity to heal the ranger. [Cure Moderate 2d8+3]

Finally he looks at Khelzhad's wounded leg and summons a less powerful blessing [cure lt wounds d8+3]

[That's it for Ulwe's heal spells except 3 cure minor wounds which I'll reserve for emergency use.]

Re: It's over...but the crying
Draxim shrugs.

"I'll be a sight happier when we figure out where we are. For all we know we could be on the other side of the empire by now after bein' in the bodies of the fhtaitrh... "

Draxim shakes his head violently as his tounge wrestles with the word intended for reptilian lips.

"The dragonewts that is - beggin' your pardon there Cap'n," he wipes the resulting spittle off the front of Atan's tunic.

"I'm for goin' on as long as were all able."

Re: It's over...but the crying
Atan frowns at the spittle on the his over-tunic. Setting an arrow to his bow string, "Very well. Two columns; Pogar, Ulwe, Mad, Druga, Janes....left. Draxim, Khel, me, Sangraal on the right. Keep seperated by five feet and move up the walls. Dwarves call out what you see. If we come to a turn or a room, stop. Pogar or Draxim move forward and check it out." Looking everyone over for any last inputs, "OK, let's go."

[Atan moves through the northern tunnel and its purple light.]

Draxim waits for the company to assemble then with a glance and nod to Pogar at his left, sets out up the passageway.

I'll see you on the Beach
With a last whispered prayer over the dead, Madragar moves out with Druuga in tow. He pulls Galewing out of his belt and holds the ancient rod in his left hand as he moves cautiously forward.

Re: I'll see you on the Beach
Ulwe picks up his light enchanted stone and pockets it as the group heads out.

He holds his spear in his shield hand and readies 'Aella' the Swan-Maiden.

Lanterns
The northern corridor, so the dwarves report, is about sixty feet long and opens into a larger chamber in which several motes of purple light can be seen - even by the dull-eyed humans. The companions advance cautiously with Pogar and Draxim in the lead. The room ahead is dim, but soon its shadowy contents become clear as the dwarves approach the open doors at its southern end.

The chamber is about fifty to sixty feet on a side and is lit by several large iron lanterns, each containing a shimmering ball of eerie purple light. They are quite similar, in fact, to the lanterns carried by the Duergar priestesses in the Cairnhollow and exude an unnatural and sinister aura.

Against the eastern wall of the room are two sturdy wooden tables covered in rags and simple tools. A pair of large oaken casks sit nearby. To the west a lone figure hunches over another table, its dry, brittle fingers clutching a feather quill as it scribbles patiently onto the parchment of the thick scroll before it. The thing appears to be yet another legionnaire, clad in mail with its shield and shortsword leaning against a nearby wall. It does not seem to notice the companions, however.

Behind the undead scribe, stacked high against the west wall, is a pile of old scrolls, dozens of them, each maybe five inches thick and wrapped around a simple wooden dowel. A pair of stone blocks, like bookends, hold the massive collection in place.

At the northern end of the room stands a simple screen made of linen stretched over a wooden frame. Behind the screen the vague outline of a massive throne is visible, though the throne itself could probably accomodate two men sitting side by side. A pair of lanterns flank the object, but it isn't clear if anyone, or anything, is actually sitting on the throne.

In general the room appears to have been recently occupied and is surprisingly free of dust and other debris.

The scribe continues to write with tedious strokes, occasionally stopping to re-ink its quill.

Taking a short step back, Pogar whispers "Atan, Khelzhad, any o' ye think'n ye can hit th' undead o'er yonder?"

Re: Lanterns
"Aye, but one shot will not do the job. Besides - he is only one and his guards are gone. If I send any bolts in, it will be to see what is behind the screen.

It is as if they do not even know that they are dead. Though the thought revolts me, I suggest we parley for information, though I do not yet understand the difficult Lunar speech."

Sangraal holds "Jolla" a swan maiden in one hand and his trusty identity in the other.

Re: Lanterns
"Hold your fire, gentlemen. But keep your weapons to hand."

Leaving Druuga with the group, Madragar makes his way to the front and steps across the threshhold.

"Master Scribe," he says in fluent but accented Lunar, "I am Madragar, scion of Wulfwaru. What manner of record do you keep here?"

Re: I'll see you on the Beach
"The captain is not taking visitors," the scribe croaks in reply without looking up from its work. "And the company has no need of auxillaries. Begone."

The faintest wisp of dust rolls out of the zombie's mouth, its unholy existence pushing stale air out of shrivelled lungs.

Re: Lanterns
Draxim steps up and tosses the legion badge down on the table in front of the scribe where the studious corpse cannot fail to see it (well if he has eyes anyway).

"I think your captain might want to know about the fate of your legion." He nudges Madragar to remind him that the corpse will need a translation.

Re: I'll see you on the Beach
[That's quite a throw.]

Draxim boldly strides forward and tosses the token down on the table in front of the scribe. The creature regards the object briefly then places its quill back in the tin ink well that sits nearby. Draxim can hear the bones in its neck creak like an old door as the thing slowly turns to face him. Seated the legionnaire is about the dwarf's height, its eyes shimmering pools of necromantic energy.

"The captain does not abide those that neglect their duties. A good soldier will rise to fight... again."

Re: Lanterns
"Scribe," says Madragar, his jaw set, "Your captain will see our captain one way or the other."

"Though we speak in the tongue of the Empire, know us for barbarians. Tell us what we wish to know and we may yet leave your library unharmed and intact. Tell us not, or seek to deceive us, and once I have ransacked it for the choicest parts, my friends here will burn it down around your moldering corpse."

"And make no mistake - there will be no rising from the doom brought by these ministers of the Lords of Light."

"Choose, scribe. Choose wisely, and now. Where... is... your... Captain?"

Re: I'll see you on the Beach
Without expression, and without turning away from Madragar's challenge, the legionnaire extends its left arm toward the linen screen.

"You seek the captain? Then savage... see him for yourself."
