Re: Underground
[Pogar would do more damage as a front shieldsman, Ulwe is definately a second rank fighter, with the spear. Pogar, I think, should be up front with Khelzhad.

My thoughts on how it should be.

Pogar Draxim
Ulwe Sangraal
Mad Druuga
Jans(xbow) Khelzhad (xbow)
Atan.(bow)

Re: Underground
[Not to get defensive -ha ha pun intended- but Ulwe has the best AC of the party. He would definitely be a better choice than Khel for the front line.
But I agree Pogar and Draxim being the heavies should be front and center. The Clerics being a bit back make more sense for their support abilities, and Ulwe can attack from 10' away if he does not move. Why does Madragar need to be in the second rank? Cand he see through party members? If he does not have to be exposed to attacks he should not, but if he has to then he should fire off his spell and retreat a rank allowing Ulwe or Sangraal to take his place. ]

[I'm assuming everyone moves back out of the fog to re-form.]

Once the party sorts out its marching order, Ulwe asks the obvious question:

"What is our course of action?"

Re: Underground
[A couple of corrections: 1. Khelzhad is currently armed with sword and sheild. 2. He already used his action to sing and move into the mist this round, and so cannot reform until next turn.]

Re: Underground
"We wait," whispers Madragar. "Unless they can see through the fog, they will not waste spells, and we are relatively safe in this formation"

"However, if I were the enemy spellcaster, I would send through a scout with orders to shout if we are thus bunched up. On hearing the shout, I would release my burst spell. Thus, should the fog disperse or a scout appear and shout something, you must be ready to disperse, for a burst spell might very well follow."

"If, on the other hand, more than four legionnaires emerge from that fog, I will hand them a taste of my scintillating sphere. Fewer than that, and I shall not waste it."

"On the other hand, perhaps the enemy spellcaster, if there is one, has blast spells to burn and may fling one our way just to clear the way for his legionnaires. I will do what I may."

Madragar activates the protections of Galewing, then waits, with the trigger as stated above.

Re: Underground
"They could be flanking us. There is a hallway which has not been explored, they could very well come from that direction, and approach our rear."

[Check Map #2 to see what I mean. ]

"I propose we displace and set up position elsewhere. The mist will last for about three minutes, It can conceal our escape."

Re: Underground
"Why don't we move forward and engage?" the sun preist asks.

[OOC: We move up turtled behind the shields, when Mad can see the enemy he fires. With everyone behind the shields we get should an AC cover bonus ]

Re: Underground
Hearing the arguing behind him but not wanting to give the game away, Draxim hisses back in dwarvish.

They have abandoned the barricade and are are preparing defenses further back. The foe seems corrupted but smart. They can likely understand us. Also, I think they may be able to see through the mist. I advance.

Draxim moves 20' E and takes (full?) cover behind the barriacade. If he sees any foe types he will fire his crossbow at them. He also listens more intently to see if he can make out what they are saying.

[How tall is the barricade? ]

Re: Underground
The companions form up into a tight group just in time for Draxim to advance out of position. Creeping forward just to the edge of the fog cloud, the dwarf peers into the darkness but can't see anything beyond the barricade but an open chamber. The stone barrier itself is about four feet high and provides Draxim good cover.

"Kalan!" a voice shouts its command from off in the gloom, followed closely by a loud mechanical CRUNK!

A blur of wood and steel cuts through the air, flashing over Draxim's head with incredible speed. While the companions argue over what to do next, a six foot spear slices through the fog and strikes the stone wall just a few inches over Ulwe's head. The missile shatters with the impact, raining bits of wood and rock dust down on the companions as it continues its trajectory down the length of the corridor.

Before the projectile has stopped moving Draxim hears the ominous clinking sound of the ballista being reloaded.

Map updated.

[Draxim is lightly wounded. Atan, Sangraal, and Ulwe are moderately wounded.]

[Go.]

Re: Underground
Looking at the group, Pogar flatly states "Move it" and moves forward 20'

[move 1s 1se 3s]

[You mean east, right? And that's only half of a move. You can go another 20', or take some other action. -GM]

[Yeah, east...sorry....yeah, too early, Pogar do a full move, full 40']

Re: Underground
[For the record, I had already advanced to the edge of the fog cloud. My second advance should have put me up to the edge of the barriacade.

See: this message]

Draxim waits at the barriacade for his companions. He will fire at any movement down the corrdidor

Re: Underground
[Okee-doke. Anyone in the blast zone has only themselves to blame.]

Madragar aims slightly above the point where he believes the ballista bolt to have come from and yells loudly "For Hroldi, Moagara and the Lightbringers! [i]Anumar ve' saldaash![/i]"

His hand glows with minute electrical arcs, and his eyes are a weird, flat silver. Extending his hand and stabbing it like a spear towards the mists, he releases a ball of light that hisses and sparks like a roiled nest of adders.

[b]Scintillating Sphere[/b]

[No can do wizard boy. That spell requires line of sight to the target and Madragar can't see more than fifteen feet through the fog. -GM]

Re: Underground
Now knowing the blasphemous Duergar are among their foes, Khelzhad's blood begins to boil as the Ghuraskalli's ancient hatred of the dark dwarves surfaces easily once again and he charges behind cousin Pogar.

Pogar surges forward and [moving a full 40'] leaps on top of the barricade.

Sangraal and Khelzhad are not far behind.

[Any way we could put Pogar down off the barricade? Pogar wouldnt have just jumped up onto the barricade. He would have stopped next to Draxim....Sorry....]

Re: Underground
Just as Pogar is about to jump up on to the barriacade, Draxim tries to restrain the eagar dwarf with a warning hand and a cautious dwarven word:

Duergar Archers! Stay down

Re: Underground
Janes tries to help the wounded Atan move forward using Druuga as a meat shield to the best of his ability.

[ Follow along behind Druuga and assist Atan if he needs it, do not move in front of Druuga. ]
