Underground, Part IV
A pair of sleeping mats are laid down in one corner of the throne room and Madragar and Ulwe are set upon them. For the moment both of them remain unconscious but stable.
The two massive wooden doors of the chamber are nearly closed and braced with a pair of wedges Janes cuts from the legs of one table. Janes then collects the four wooden tables and sets to work cutting their legs and joining them together to form some kind of barricade. At this he actually finds a use for Pogar's broken axe head as it is just the right size for crude but functional carpentry.
In less than an hour Sangraal, then gradually the rest of the party, grows increasingly agitated and distracted by the presence of the four or five necromantic lanterns.

Re: Underground, Part IV
Still reeling from what happened, being knocked on concious with out being hit, doesnt settle real well with Pogar. Seeing the axe head broken, as well as the dull purple light sets Pogar at ill ease.
"Bah" Pogar says as he moves towards the lights to throw them down the hall, but thinks better of it. Trepidation crawls up his spine as he moves closer to them, that sets him in more of a foul mood.
Muttering curses under his breath, Pogar moves to the door, peers over the makeshift barricade that Janes is working on and looks down the hall. Looking to see anything, straining his eyes into the darkness, with the roar and screams still echoing through his mind.
[Pogar looks down the hall searching for anything that might be roaming the halls]

Re: Underground, Part IV
Using his grappling hook to avoid direct contact with the corrupt lantern, Khezad will attempt to move one out of the room. If he is able, he will take it all the way down the room with the burning siege machine.
If he can succeed with one, he will try another, whispering prayers to Yelm.

Re: Underground, Part IV
Sangraal is very careful not to touch the necromantic lanterns going so far wrap his cloak around the base of the lantern before handling it and helps Khelzhad dispose of them all.
Afterward Sangraal sits down with Galewing and attempts to activate it.

Re: Underground, Part IV
One way or another, the remaining lanterns are dumped in the room to the south some hundred feet away.
Sangraal, although probably capable of defeating Galewing's first guardian spirit, needs Madragar's advice in how to conjure it. [Madragar is the only one with the Attune Runemetal ritual.]

deep in the bag... nothing but lint
Sangraal snorts dejectedly upon the realization that he knows nothing about how to activate the rod and slips it into his belt.
“I can not summon the spirit of the rod, I was hoping to use it if we were attacked.”
The Sun priest walks over to the make shift barricade ( I assume it runs along the entrance to the room),settles to his knees and removes his pack. Retrieving a small thick book bound in leather he fingers calmly through the tattered pages, stopping here and there to absently mouth passages only to begin turning the pages again moments latter. After some time the Sangraal seems to find the passage he was seeking and the cycle halts mid way through the book. With a nod of approval he places the book before him and smoothes the pages down but a languid draft lazily flips the page, to which he responds by placing a scrap piece of leather cord across the open book to weight them down.
Holding his holy symbol reverently in his palm Sangraal begins a canticle that last for a hour. For those awake and care to listen it is a serene paean, nonmetrical and disjointed it tells the story of the Light and its effects on all living things, a distinct contrast from most of Sangraals chaos smiting dirges pledging doom for those who dwell in darkness.
[OOC: Sangraal performs the ritual Consecration of Yelm. The ritual takes one hour. 5 foot square becomes consecrated (as the spell). It’s not much but if we get swarmed with undead Sangraals get a +3 to turn undead for 24 hours as long as he’s stand in that one spot. It’s the last things Sangraals got in his bag of tricks till 24 hours pass. ]

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
The main doors of the chamber are closed except for a narrow gap in which a guard can watch the southern corridor. Janes' barricade is behind this.
[The Consecration of Yelm actually gives the turning bonus against undead in its area, so at most it will affect one undead at a time regardless of where Sangraal is standing. It really needs more priests to be effective.]

With the evil lights out of the room Draxim attempts to dispell the gloom by lighting a couple of conventional torches. He then sets about examining the chest, First looking for traps, and then attempting to open it if he doesn't find any. He will take extra time, as much as he thinks he needs, since he has plenty.
"Now my little hardy box, let's see what secrets lie within"
he cracks his knuckles wipes off his hands with a dusty blue hanky, lays out his tools and sets to work.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
The box is very heavy, being constructed of reinforced iron. Eschewing the obvious path (searching the scribe for a freakin key), Draxim gets down to the business of picking the lock on the iron box. The mechanism is crude and Draxim pops it in about fifteen seconds. Ping!
The interior of the box is lined with some kind of hard wood. Fully half of the ample interior space is taken up by a pair of crusty leather bags. The other half contains a small iron coffer and a small gray suede pouch.

While Draxim works with the chest, Khelzhad examines the walls for any less obvious exits, starting with the throne and adjacent wall.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
Some hours pass.
Sangraal very quickly gets lost in the stacks of densely packed scrolls. Each of them seems to be a record, written by the scribe, of what activities the "company" has been undertaking. It reads like a formal journal of military business, each day clearly marked and following one after another. Each of the one hundred and twenty three scrolls, Sangraal surmises, consists of entries spanning three months, or just over thirty years in total.
The vast majority of the entries on the scrolls say simply:
"Harvest month, day five, nothing to report."
With variations only in the month and day. Once a month an additional note often penetrates the monotony:
"Early Thaw, day thirty, supplies arrive from Danzan. Two quarts of oil, five yards of linen, two pounds of parchment, six sharpening stones."
On some occasions no linen or parchment is delivered, but always the scribe records the receipt of oil and sharpening stones.
There are many more entries in the scribe's journal but it will take Sangraal time to sort through them.
Khelzhad, meanwhile, pokes and prods the north wall, looking for a secret entrance but finds nothing.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
With nothing but time on his hands Sangraal continues the tedious task of looking through the scrolls though at a measured pace. He takes breaks to eat a little hard tack, catch a snooze, inspect the chest Draxim opened, in addition to standing guard over the barricade.
Confident that his inner clock, conditioned from years of service in Yelms name, will tell him when it is time to pray Sangraal waits.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
Thinking of his inner clock, Sangraal considers how the scribe was able to keep an accurate count of the passage of time.
Draxim lays out the contents of the box. The two large leather bag contain a large number of silver Lunar coins, and some gold ones as well. Draxim begins counting.
A long gray suede pouch contains a dozen small silver flasks.
The smaller iron coffer, about a foot on a side, is locked.

Lifting his head Sangraal draggs himself away from the scribes documented most inner thought, looks at the ceiling and then around the room.
"How did he keep time?" Sangraal asks himself
He checks the desk and lastly the scribes corpse. As his hands delve into the scribes shambling robes he whispers a prayer of warding.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but lint
Sangraal searches the scribe's corpse and notices a pair of hidden leather closures on the inside of its belt. Cutting them open, Sangraal finds two keys - one large, one small. The large one appears to fit the lock of the iron box, the other the lock of the coffer.
He doesn't find anything else of note, however.

Retrieving them he returns to his austere task.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but silver and gold.
Draxim searches the small coffer for traps and/or poisons before opening it with the key. He will tally and distribute the coinage amongst the party equally.

Re: deep in the bag... nothing but silver and gold.
Despite having the key to the coffer, Draxim wisely checks it for traps anyway. A shallow depression beneath the box draws his attention and he discovers a small metalic device, like a second lock, that is somehow linked mechanically to the more obvious lock at the front of the box. While pressing down on the device he inserts the key and turns, opening the coffer safely with a spring-loaded pop.
Within are four silver vials bearing the seal of some Lunar emperor or another. There is also a pair of small wooden boxes and a suede bag. After the requisite inspection Draxim opens the boxes to find a pair of strange contraptions.
Each device looks like a small metal cage surrounding a glowing red crystal the size of peach pit. The cage is made of iron, is fairly light-weight, and segmented. After a thorough inspection, and serious consultation with Janes, Draxim decides that the cages are designed to break the crystal when struck or, perhaps, thrown.
Within the suede bag he finds a large runemetal ring.
