Re: Underground, Part IV
[OOC: There is another secret door. I think the dragonewts were leading us that way.]

"I also think that the ring would work well for Sangraal."

Madragar sits down to study spells.

[Do we want to do the attunement now, or when YT gets back from going a-viking?]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[OOC: Do the atunement now, I know there are two spirits. tackle both if we can. Sangraal has a +9 (+11 vs chaos) Will save. Thank Yelm for the Iron Will feat. Wea re at a fairly safe spot. Never know when we'll need it. That being said I am outta here, proceed as you see fit. ]

Re: Underground, Part IV
When all is in readiness, Madragar says a prayer to Hroldi and the Lightbringers, then summons the first of Galewing's guardian spirits.

Re: Underground, Part IV
After Sangraal tests himself against the guardian spirits of Galewing, Ulwe will also attempt to wrestle with the first spirit.

[How does it work again? Does Madragar think Ulwe has a good chance? ]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[The ezboard crash deleted the Spirit Combat rules. I'll have to rewrite them.

OK, check out the World forum for how Spirit Combat works. Madragar has indicated that the first Knowledge Spirit is relatively weak, but the second one is quite strong.]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[I too, agree that Sangraal would be a good match for the ring. I think that Pogar should keep the sword since he doesnt have any other weapons. The chain, draxim keep, or if he see's fit, pass it along to someone else and Draxim gets dibs on the next item, or something like that...]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[for the record, in the last pass of the magic chain, Drax gave it to Khelzhad and it is on his sheet. As a player, I think it would be best served with Pogar, as he is the most flat-footed fighter in the party and has already been knocked down once in the battle against the Valgorah.]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[Silkreik's Chain is really an anti-assassination device, though it can have other uses in battle. It's good for anyone with a poor initiative because it will protect them during a surprise round. Also, anyone who might become held, like with a Hold Person spell, will be similarly protected.]

Re: Underground, Part IV
"Yes, Ulwe. I think you should attempt this battle, also. But beware, it is not without risk."

"Sangraal, I caution you - the second spirit is devilishly strong. It might not be a bad idea to delay that confrontation."

"There is a third spirit, which I dare not assay."

Re: Underground, Part IV
[YT is out of town so let's play on with Sangraal taking on the first spirit. Let's let YT himself state he takes on the second...]

Ulwe feels relatively confident at taking on the first spirit so he will try as soon as Sangraal successfully defeats the first spirit.

Re: Underground, Part IV
[OOC: We don't leave till 11 AM PST. I have been watching to see how the combat went. Sangraal would like to tackle the second spirit but I want to see how he fairs on the first. So I guess play it by ear. Sangraal is agressive so if he has good odds he'll take them. ]

During this time, Khelzhad will examine the weapons wall for any signs of concealed passage or door.

Re: Underground, Part IV
Sangraal is the first to try and though his companions see nothing (spirits are invisible and ethereal) the combat is quick and decisive. The priest is at first put on his spiritual heels by the spirit's swift attack but quickly fights back and subdues the creature.

[Sangraal is down to 5 Power from 11.]

Ulwe grasps the rod and finds a new knowledge spirit waiting for him. Under the guiding words of Madragar the Orlanth priest summons the thing and meets it head on. Ulwe's presence in the Spirit World is battered and tired but ultimately successful.

[Ulwe is down to 6 Power from 8.]

Both Ulwe and Sangraal can now use the moderate powers of the rod which are increased resistance to cold and the ability to direct a ray of frost once every minute or so.

Re: Underground, Part IV
Sangraal gasps as he releases the rod.

"By the Light. That was an unplesent experience. I will refrain from tackling the second spirit till we are in a better surroundings."

Re: Underground, Part IV
Madragar nods, approvingly. "The second guardian is stronger, and guards the knowledge of how to extend Galewing's protective powers to others."

"Now you know how exhausting spirit combat can be. These are knowledge spirits - not the spiteful or hateful sort of spirits that often guard places of chaos. Nonetheless, being weakened by one such as guard this rod can leave one dangerously exposed to more baneful spirits."

"Do you wish to summon the second guardian?"

Madragar extends Galewing to the two priests.

[Actually, the first guardian is the only one any of you have faced, including Madragar.]

Re: Underground, Part IV
[So it's the first guardian that allows you to extend the protections to others? I know I had that ability.]

[Galewing by itself is a +2 club that deals an extra 1D6 cold damage and grants the wielder protection equivalent to Endure Elements: Cold.

Someone who has defeated the first guardian spirit can make use of some of Galewing's other abilities:

The wielder is protected by Resist Elements: Cold and can, at will, extend Endure Elements: Cold to anyone within 10' of the rod.

Galewing can expel a ray of cold every 2D6 rounds (ranged touch attack, 3D6 cold damage, no save, 60' range increment).]

Janes, made more than a little nervous by this interacting with spirits [OOC though amazed that he has a higher POW stat than Ulwe (yea, but what's his Will Save? -GM) (Crap - MD) ] decides to spend his time searching the parties safe house for secrets. He'll spend considerable time doing this and be thourough as he doesn't want to be around while their playing with the rod.

[ I guess I still had the chain on my sheet because of the EZBoard snafu. OK. As of now Draxim has no magic items except for a cure moderate potion. Really, Draxim would hold out for something that is well within his idiom anyway. ]

Draxim commiserates with Janes on this weird spirit combat stuff "t'aint natural!". He helps with the search and listens at the secret door for the hundredth time. He also checks it for traps.

Re: Underground, Part IV
When the two priests have defeated the first guardian, Madragar sits and clears his mind. With a loud pair of claps and a gutteral chant, he summons the attention of the second spirit and places Galewing across his knees.

"Come, oh Second Warden. Madragar of the House of Wulfwaru desires the knowledge you guard."
