Re: The Heart
"Well, Companions it seems our task to confront this beast, or withdraw in shame. However the spirit of the Zhoskelgar still lingers here, and somehow I feel that if we can cleanse their fortress, they may be able to aid us against the Valgorah."

Re: The Heart
Upon hearing the words shame, Pogar becomes noticably irritable.
"We're no leavin here wit our heads hangin down. If'n I have ta take the beast on mesel, I will. Lets get goin'" Pogar says in a huff, grabbing his long sword with both hands and grips the hilt tightly.

Re: The Heart
Does it sound like the thumping emanates from the next room? If not, Draxim opens the door a crack and peaks out. If it does, then he alerts his companions to prepare themselves for combat.

Re: The Heart
Draxim pushes on the door but meets some resistance. Digging in his heels he gives it a shove and the door quietly slides open a crack. The rush of cold air through the gap reveals the source of the resistance was some kind of pressure imbalance in the subterranean air. A gentle breeze continues to blow through the doorway.
The room beyond is just as empty as the companions left it three or four days earlier. The distant booming continues and Draxim is increasingly convinced the source of the sound is somewhere to the west.

Khelzhad accepts the Swan Maiden in his throwing hand and uses his shield in his left. A last unlit torch stuffed in his belt and flask of oil ready, he once again prepares his mind for possibility of death and prays that he lives up to the valor of his fathers.

Khelzhad tries to tell if the change in pressure due to outside air coming in, or pressure released from below...

Ulwe removes his holy water and oil from his back pack and puts it in a small sack he slings from his shoulder to keep the liquids with him once he drops his pack.

Re: The Heart
[Pogar is... better? Stronger? Faster?]
Khelzhad believes that the change in pressure is probably due to some egress to the surface, or perhaps a link between the dragonewt complex and the vast open spaces of the underworld.

Feeling the breeze coming through the room, Pogar load the heavy crossbow. With unfamiliarity, Pogar struggles for a moment, but finally loads up a bolt.
Once he finishes loading the crossbow, Pogar will peer around the door to see if he can see anything of any importance in the room.

Re: The Heart
Pogar sees that the room is empty, just like they left it.
Draxim listens intently and decides that the booming sounds are fairly regular, but not perfectly so. Also he becomes increasingly sure that it has something to do with the stone of the mountain as the distinctive sound of grinding granite can be detected following each beat.

Pogar will enter the room and walk towards the northern doors. He will put his ear to the door and listen.

Re: The Heart
"Sounds like he's tryin' ta pull down the mountain. Or maybe break down a door?" Draxim suddenly looks alarmed. C'mon!
He enters the room to the west, and if he makes it that far will look up the passage to the north to see what he can see beyond the open door.

Re: The Heart
The door to the north is open, just as the companions left it. That passage seems to be the source of the steady breeze and at the limit of the dwarves' darkvision there appears to be nothing but an empty corridor.
The sound continues to come from the west.

[The door is, in fact, already open. Draxim and Pogar have gone through it and are looking north down the corridor - the one with the half open door.]

Re: The Heart
Draxim motions for the others to stay in the room for a moment, shrugs off his pack and moves slowly and (hopefully) silently to the west, entering the tunnel leading to the room where they came to their senses after their sojurn into the minds of the Dragonnewt heroes (I think) . He moves very slowly, and if he becomes convinced that the sound is emanating from the room, or if he sees anything moving in the room as he approaches, he will stop, and try to back up without being seen.

Re: The Heart
Draxim moves about twenty feet down the passage before stopping. In the octagonal room ahead he sees a suspicious amount of rock dust in the air and with each impact against the surrounding stone more particulates float downward. When he first awoke in this chamber several days ago he was certain the north wall concealed some kind of hidden passage. The increasing volume of the mysterious booming leads Draxim to believe that someone, or something, is pounding on that door from the other side.
Draxim cautiously backs out of the corridor and rejoins his companions.

Waiting where he is, watching Draxim slowly move down the hall, Pogar trains his crossbow into the darkness. Once Draxim returns, Pogar keeps the crossbow up, to cover Draxim.
"Can ye see any lock on it?" Pogar asks quietly trying to figure out what to do next.
[There is no claw lock on that particular section of wall. -GM]

"Well somthin' is tryin' to get in and that's no mistake," says Draxim hoisting his backpack back into place. I don't know how long we have, but maybe we should scout that northern corridor while we have time." So saying he proceeds to the northern door and looks through it.
