Re: oh, god! Mormons!
Khelzhad shudders at the thought of another earth elemental.
"A good thing I have my pickaxe, then cousin! well lads, I say we get out of the way and lure them into an ambush in this hallway or by the barricade."

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
[OOC: Sorry to be obtuse, but -somebody's- assuming facts not in evidence. Probably me. Is there some reason to think that this sound is getting closer? The entire description struck me as some sort of machine pounding away in the darkness.]

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
From the GM:
Quote: [The booming sound is coming from the north wall of the western-most octagonal chamber on the map.]
and:
Quote: The companions return to the small octagonal chamber which is choked with dust. Sangraal finds no claw lock [R.T.F.T] and Atan hears nothing on the other side of the stone beyond the rythmic booming. It seems quite close, however, as if the source of the assault on the stone slab is quite close by... inches perhaps.

[Still don't see the words "louder" or "closer". Scott?]

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
The sound is getting louder and closer, but only because the party has been steadily moving toward it since they first heard the sound. At this moment Atan and Sangraal are standing right next to a section of wall [the north wall of the western-most octagonal chamber] that is being pounded on, at fairly regular intervals, by something. The wall itself is shaking from the impacts, and this is causing rock dust to fall from the ceiling. There's no way of telling if or when the wall will give way.

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
Janes starts nervously looking back and forth. "Perhaps ye should move a bit further away from the wall there friends. We're underground, if the wall goes, the ceiling might go with it."

Keep that fool of a Took away from the deep deep hole!
Realizing that Janes has a point, Draxim looks afresh at the room to evaluate exactly that: If the wall goes will the rest of the room? Also while evaluating the structure, he tries once again to discern the nature of the secret door (if there is one there must be right?)

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
"Well said, Inn Keeper! Let us vacate this area lest we give away our element of surprise. My hunch is that it is not the Duergar, but the servants of the Valgorah who have followed us here [what was that race called again?]. In any case, or present formation is bad. We're between a rock and ghurrow dung if that beast confronts us us in here. Let us move immediately!"
Khelzhad moves into the hallway.

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
[Draxim is fairly sure that the ceiling will hold.]
BOOM!
A long, fissurous crack appears in the face of the wall, splitting the intricate reliefs and inscriptions that decorate its surface to be forever marred. Rock dust fills the air, nearly plunging the whole chamber into darkness.

Re: oh, god! Mormons!
Janes moves back so he can get into a position that provides some cover and prepares to shoot his crossbow through the break in the wall.

Re: oh, god! Morons!
Draxim steps back as well and dips a bolt in his recently acquired potion. He then does the same for the bolt loaded on Pogar's crossbow.
"Should we light the barriacade?"
[After all this chapter wouldn't be complete without a devastating conflagration ]

" Fall back. Lets get some distance between whatever that is, and us. It will buy a little time for our missiles."
Ulwe then proceeds to fall back to the East as far as he can and then drops his pack.

Visitor
The companions hastily retreat away from the crumbling masonry, each preparing their weapon of choice and searching out cover wherever it can be found. With an earth shattering blast of brute force the stone wall explodes inward. Slabs of granite tumble to the flagstones and chunks of flying rock bounce around the octagonal chamber. A dense gray cloud rolls down the corridor and into the dais room where the companions squint and cough in the maelstrom of blinding rock dust.
Soon the echoes of the blast fade into distant halls and chambers of the subterranean complex and all becomes quiet and still. The companions train their weapons on the dense cloud and strain to see what emerges.
Deep within the shadowy miasma a long figure stands.
